  Try the following.

  Step 1: Check if there is lack of updates.

  a. click Start, click all programsand then click Windows Update or Microsoft Update.

  b. on the Windows Update Web site or on the Microsoft Update Web site, click view update history. A window opens that displays the updates that have been installed or that have failed to install on the computer.

  (c) in the State of this window column, find the update failed to install and then click on the red X. A new window opens that displays the installation error code.

  d. Note the error number. (If any).

  Step 2: reset Windows Update components and then install updates. Visit the following link and click on Fixit.

  I know there is a wealth of information on the subject and the standard response is to use both... whether you want array or snapshot level vm, etc..

  However, my environment is staged, I did some torture tests, tests of backup and restore. I'm almost ready to go wild p2v, but I'm still on the fence about the places where use RDM vs. VMFS. I'm running a cx500 and I was bitten by a flare code bug earlier that caused corruption unnoticed in my clone BCV we were using for backups - what was going on FOR the MONTH up to what we found out after we met weird with a cloned Oracle instance anomalies. From there I never did trust snaps or clones on the side of the table. On the other hand, I like the features of sleep to a vmdk.

  Looks like there are great benefits to go especially with VDR VMFS and similar tools push up. BUT... There is always this weird feeling relying on these vmdk files. Just curious to know what percentage of vs. VMFS, RDM people are running and why you personally and absolutely chosen RDM vs. vmfs.

  The last time I created an extended partition has been in days BACK/WFW.

  For single servers me given configuration and administration as servers Oracle dn, have generally 3 disks. 1 x 500 GB for 3 partitions: boot, swap and root.

  2 x 1 TB drives for the DSO. On that I create a single partition, partition of 4, which allows custom udev rules that make a device for the DSO to use. In ASM, I will then create a diskgroup normal redundancy (2 way mirror) on these.

  If a new record is added - any server owner has to do is run as root and do fdisk partition 4 on this disc. Once this is done, the disk will appear as a new candidate in ASM disk.

  Basic example of the udev rule custom and the alphabet used to generate the name of the device is in Re: Configure ASM disks without ORACLEASM.
