What is the individual metal ring sticking out the top of my new Cruzer 16 Gb usb flash drive?

A quick question: what is the little metal ring sticking out the top of the page top of my new Cruzer 16 GB "micro" flash?  What can it be used?

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Gary,.

Yes, is to make a loop to put on a keychain.

Does not exist on the memoirs, a tab for protection against Scripture.

  • cRIO: build the path to write tdms file on a USB flash drive

I wrote the code in figure 1 below, for open & create a file tdms on my USB flash drive that is plugged into the USB cRIO.

The added path tdms is shown in figure 2 below.

But I get the error in figure 3 below. I wonder how I can solve this problem.

    Cashany,

Make sure that the USB is formatted in FAT32 as the cRIO cannot mount NTSF or other file systems.

In addition, and this is potentially very important:

There is a known memory leak problem that is easy to avoid the code with the help of PDM on the cRIO (without code changes!).

This problem only occurs on vxWORKS targets (e.g., cRIO-9014), not on the PharLap targets (as I know).

The problem occurs when you close a PDM file reference, the vxWORKS OS can't properly unload the PDM library. Next time you open a PDM, the library reference is loaded again, if for a very long time you will run out of memory.

    The solution is very simple:

on your cRIO, locate the file or - rt.ini, then scroll down to the section [LVRT] of the ini file and locate the key called "StartupDlls".

Make sure 'tdms.out' is included. For example, according to your cRIO, it may look like this:

    StartupDlls = nisysrpc.out; NiRioRpc.out; NiViSrvr.out;

In this case, you would change the line to look like this:

    StartupDlls = nisysrpc.out; NiRioRpc.out; NiViSrvr.out; TDMS.out;

This will prevent the LabVIEW runtime on the cRIO trying to unload the PDM library, forcing to be in memory of start up to eternity. This avoids the memory leak that you would otherwise experience.

    Good luck!

  • The request cannot be performed because of the I/o device error when opening a USB flash drive

Original title: USB Flash Drive issues

So, I tried to open my flash drive on my Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows 8 today to make an assignment. But for some reason some it does not open. This is what appears when I try to open it. I've done many things that are supposed to solve the problem with the ports themselves, but nothing seems to work that makes me think that it is the actual flash player. I don't know what to do all that my University materials are there then I really need to work, or at least find a way to get at least most of my files. Thank you very much for the help in advance.

Sorry for the late reply Jose. I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue.

This can occur because of one or more of the reasons below:
    1. the currently loaded USB driver has become corrupt or unstable.
    2. your PC requires an update for problems that could conflict with a key USB and Windows.
    3. Windows may miss other problems hardware or software updates.
    4. your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt.

Check the disc on another computer flash memory to ensure that the issue is not with the device.

You can try the methods below:
Method 1: Uninstall, then reconnect the USB flash drive:
This method solves the problems where the currently loaded USB driver has become corrupt or unstable.
    1. go in search for, type device manager in the search box
    2. click on Device Manager in the returned list.
    3. click on disk in the list of hardware drives
    4. right click on the USB with the question and click on uninstall.
    5. once the flash player is uninstalled, unplug it.
    6. wait 1 minute and then reconnect the USB flash drive. The driver should load automatically.
    7. look for the USB key in Windows Explorer

Method 2: Reinstall the USB controllers.
This method addresses the steps where the USB driver currently loaded became unstable or corrupted.
    1. click on start, type device manager in the start search box, and then click Device Manager.
    2. expand Bus USB controllers. Right click on a device, and then click on uninstall. Repeat for each device.
    3. Once complete, restart your computer. Your USB controllers will automatically install.

I hope this helps to solve the issue. If you still have the same problem, get back to us.

  • What is the best method to add data to a file stored on a usb flash drive to avoid too many write cycles?

    Hello

I'm trying to store an important data on a cRIO sampled stream in the USB flash drive.

I believe that there are two ways to add data to a file:

    1. open the file outside of the loop, then write to the file loop, then close the file outside the loop.

Pros; More quickly and efficiently than the opening and closing of files in a loop is resource heavy equipment.

Disadvantages; If the program fails partially through, all data is lost.

    2. open the file, write to the file and close the file, all in the loop.

With the advantages and disadvantages as opposed to option 1.

As my cRIO is finally deployed in a hostile environment and data are valuable and processing speed is not an issue of concern in this project, I'm leaning towards option 2, but after a few basic calculations that I realize that I'll be writing/opening/closing the file of thousands of times and I wanted to know if this will wear out the flash memory?

My uncertainty is due to not understanding what happens when a file is opened written to and closed.  He writes the new data to new areas of the flash, or it write all data on top?  The latter would cause me problems not too long term!

    Any help gratefully received.

A big thank you and best regards,

    Ed

The 'magic' is not in the File Format (PDM vs vs binary text), but in the "life" of the file.  This solution creates a file of 24 hours and maintains a different file for each day.  If the USB "dies", you lose everything you have not backed up somewhere.  If the program dies (or errors), you lose the data for the current day.  You end up with multiple files (which can be a more or less), but we must still make the trade-off between (duration) of the file and the file number opens (which relates to your concern for the longevity of the USB).  By the way, I suspect that a good quality USB key (it's what you mean, right?  Or do you mean a hard drive USB powered?  Comments probably apply both) can predict today to not die on you, everything just because you make a lot of reads/writes (of course, you could get in-a-thousand...).

I currently store my pictures on and an external hard drive.  Lightroom 6 was not able to find the picture momentarily files.  I inserted an external Flash DRIVE after removing the hard drive and the computer renamed the stick with the same drive letter that has been designated by Lightroom to store my photos.  I could go into my Windows 10 and reset the player to the letter that Lightroom has given at the beginning of the external hard drive.   However, I know this can happen again, if I connect any stick USD or another device, while the external hard drive is not connected to my laptop.   I found the information that I can do the new designation of the final drive by choosing a letter it is 1/2 way or higher in the alphabet.   I would like to turn an external hard drive on a strong letter, warns we hope this previous problem.   My question is, if I already have a lot of pictures on this external hardrive with the designation of the current drive, how it becomes a higher letter and have 6 Lightroom recognizes files, now under the new designation of drive letter without having to go to each photo individually and manually force Lightroom 6 find each photo.  It would take more time than I'd like to lose.  Is there a way to get just 6 Lightroom to recognize the new disk designation has changed and is able to find all of the existing files?

I have read the ADOBE LightRoom 6 manual and seem not to be able to find anything on how to do it.

  • HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF: external hard drive not detected in the BIOS. Only USB Flash drives are detected.

    Hi all

I received recently 2 new HP desktop computers.

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 SFF

    HP Elitedesk 800 G2 TWR

The goal is to test our real W7 x 64 image on these machines and to inject the missing drivers in the image.

MDT 2010 to create a deployment on a USB hard disk drive.

This disc of deployment is already used on 16 different models of HP in the company (Elitebook, zBook, EliteDesk) to install our image so I know it works.

Unfortunately, the two HP Elitedesk 800 G2, I can't start the boot disk but I cannot to USB for a USB key.

The USB drive is not detected and not proposed in the BIOS Menu of STARTUP.

Only the internal HD, external USB Flash Disk, DVD and network devices are detected.

Here's what I already checked or tried:

    • Latest Version of the BIOS installed (2.05)
    • UEFI Boot has been disabled. (not supported by our record of deployment)
    • USB ports are enabled (front and rear).
    • All types of USB devices are allowed in the BIOS
    • The start command has been changed to start with USB devices.
    • Legacy support is active and Secure Boot disabled
    • Delete the keys to secure boot
    • Reset secure by default startup keys
    • This morning, I created a new disk deployment on a USB Flash drive and it works!

So, it seems that only Flash USB drives are detected.

I know it is possible to return the flag removalble on a USB device to cheat the system and make it appear as a disk fixed, but I want a simple solution.

Does anyone know a fix or a workaround for this problem?

    Thanks in advance!

For those interested in the answer, here's the final results.

It turns out that the hard 500 GB external drive can be detected if it is fomatted in FAT32.

It's strange because my 16 GB USB Flash drive formatted in NTFS works very well.

In any case, I'll create a FAT32 Partition to the Boot MDT files and put my picture (because the file is too big for FAT32 partition) on the secondary partition (formatted as NTFS).

Thanks to the technical pre-sales team of HP who helped me with this!

    Hi samanthaGibbons,

What is the make and model of your USB Flash drive?

The USB Flash drive works in any other computer?

It might be a problem with the drive itself, or it may need to be formatted.

I suggest you check out the website of the manufacturer for possible troubleshooting or know how to reformat the disk, if necessary.

  • Laptop HP 17 p100: how the usb flash drive big that I have to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

How the big usb flash drive do I need to create a system of 10 Windows Recovery?

    Yes

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

There is really no way accurately guess in advance, with one of the reasons being that the options are available when you do this.  An option creates a recovery drive minimum with what is needed to repair the operating system.  Another option creates an image that is able to completely restore the operating system and its partition.  Thus, the size can vary from 4 GB to the size of the partition to the OS.

Myself, I found as build-in recovery to be unreliable, especially those of Ms.  So instead, I use a third-party imaging/restoration solution known as Macrium Reflect.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

My experience is that SIR, when you use the option of Compression high, typically allows to compress the image file recorded at about 50% of the space USED in the OS partition.  This means that if you have a 40GB and 80GB OS partition is used, MR must only about 20 GB to store the image file.

I use all the time and it usually takes less than 10 minutes to make the backup of the image and at the same time or less do a restore.  In addition, MR has the ability to add a recovery Boot Menu entry.  This then allows you to boot into Windows re, and then you can use it to do a restore - when you cannot start Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.
