  Make sure that the person who provides still images is measured in PIXELS. Not MM, inch, DPI - but PIXELS no no. No other video issues.

  Your 'canvas' in first 1920 x 1080 (HD 1080) pixels, it's the size minimum everything should always be to fill the frame without having to to scale upward (loss of quality). Of course, if the image is portrait style, then it will NOT fill the frame, but rather will be black on the sides, bottom replacement or as others have suggested. In this case, make sure the height is at least 1080 (width will be narrower than 1920).

  You said you want to crop, like Ken Burns, so then you would like images greater than 1920 x 1080, such as the 3456 x 2304 proposed. Allows you to zoom in to a certain extent using pixels available in the image without actually upscaling the image at all. The more you want to zoom in, pixels more than you need to achieve this without degrading the quality of "blow up" the image.

  As David says, it depends on your audience.

  Take a look at the stats of the site (if you have one at this point).  What kind of people are going to be viewing the site.  If it's a more technical audience, then they probably wide enough monitors, but it's a site of "mom & pop" type, so they can still use small monitors.

  These days, I went from 780 width (at a size of 800px wide window) to 980px width to meet the size of the window at 1024. With respect to height, not to declare a height at all.  This will allow the content to expand vertically as required, regardless of the size of the window.

  Satellite Pro 4600 is old enough for laptop and it is not easy to find the exact info. The fact is that this laptop comes with 10 and 20 GB hard drives.
  My opinion is that you can use 30 or even 40 GB HDD. I think that 30 GB new HARD drive should be enough for your some jobs.

  If you place an image with a height or width greater than 2048 pixels - in Muse - Muse will scale the image down proportionately, limiting the larger size to 2048.

  However, if you want to use the picture to its original size, you can move the image to the desired size by dragging handles to resize, or by entering values for height and width in the strip control on top. After that, go to the active panel and locate the image, then right-click on this image in the active panel and choose "import of large size.   Honestly, there is not a suggested size of space available to FTP/SFTP server used as the size of your backups of data base of progressive and complete view depend on 100% of the amount of newspapers ACS server receives every day, so what I would suggest to take a look at a couple of incremental for 2 consecutive days and would help you to determine what would be the amount that you need for a period of 30 days (one month).

  And associated with your concern if the ACS would supports the option to manually maintain the last 2 full backups view, unfortunately, it is not available as an option.

  On page 69 of the installation guide, it shows how to change the JVM for X 86 servers.  Maybe this will give you a place to start looking for your current size.  On X 64 if it has been installed with the 10 GB of memory, then would be a chunk of memory to 2 GB size and anything less than 10 GB would result in a segment size of memory 512 MB.
