  Yes, Outlook often think files 'have not been closed properly' and takes forever to 'check' the. I give him extra time to close before stopping computer...

  The messages are really a database and compaction it just removes the white space
  assigned to messages that have been previously deleted. The process does not remove all
  other messages. Compaction of the database allows safer and less likely
  to suffer from corruption.

  I doubt if the mixture is possible in the FMS. Even for your case many, I would always say to have a separate for each user flow (so that he can 'talk') and reading / subscribe all feed to all users and save them as well. You will as well as many /streams recordings, like the number of users. Then, you will have to write some scripts for 'sync', each of them (all records).

  I should add that if you operate the account using Pop then messages can be left on the server without any indication that they have been read. You define each customer to leave them on the server.

  However if you don't know what messages have been read, I know not how will you know which ones to delete and when to do it. Without active maintenance your server could quickly become full.

It is not a Firefox problem, but I didn't know where it is best to ask this question.
