What iso (HR) Centos to use when installing on VM guest operating system?

When you install a guest operating system Centos 5.5 on a VSphere VM, I'm a bit puzzled by this what iso i386 to download & install.

  • DVD: seems to be the right choice for me, although large

  • CD 1 of 7: will probably ask me to mount other CD.

  • the netinstall CD: should work if the virtual machine has network connectivity good to contribute to the installation

Thanks in advance for all advice here... Lyle

I always use DVD iso file (download via bittorrent client). Not only that you get everything you need in a single iso file, but it is easier to manage on the data store (where you keep the iso files OS). Locate a mirror which seems to be more close to where you are (in the world/country) and allows to start with. Of course, your connection speed will dictate how long it takes to download the file. I also usually download files iso of OS at home, so that I don't have to worry about sucking to the top of the bandwidth in the office, and I have no need to worry about a firewall rule prevents me to get the files.

Once the installer has spent three or four cd iso files, I opted to enter the DVD ISO... It's simply more light and to download the iso DVD because it does not worry about change iso files during installation, or have several virtual cd/dvd drives connected to a single virtual machine. It is also faster set-up, because that's what reading the single iso file, not seven.

  • Use server monitor for a guest operating system?

I'm about to install two invited on an ESXi 4.0 Server operating systems, but I really want to use the display of the ESXi server for a Windows XP client computer.  Is this possible?  So far, the ESXi console is what happens on the primary video display card.  Should I just a secondary video card I can devote to the guest OS?  I hope the host operating systems are not just accessible on the network.

    TKS,

    -Jason

Unfortunately, your "hope not" is the case.  There is no option to use the system to display the operating system prompted with ESX or ESXi (with or without a second video card).  Its designed as a server operating system, not something that you interact with directly.

  • computer host cannot use the internet but the guest operating system can

Hello, I am using vmware workstation 10 and have implemented a windows virtual xp (I am running windows 7). I chose bridged to my connection and internet mode works very well within the xp, but when you try to use the internet on my host computer it does not work. He said that I have no internet access but if it works on my virtual machine, then what's wrong?

BTW I have configured in bridge to my wireless adapter if it makes a difference. also cannot use nat or host

    any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

Then maybe it's a problem with your WiFi router no longer allowing a connection when using bridged and if it is it is not a question of VMware itself.   What brand and model of router?

Because Dell SLP, the restriction of similar model is not important. All that matters is the EULA and the fact that the two computers are Dells.

It will use the management network, which uses vmk0 as a default, no need to create a new vmkernel.

Then look up what vmnic is connected to vmk0 in your installation.

  • If I use the SSD to initiate the operating system and a hard disk of data what exactly will be the benefit of this end?

    Hello

I would like to know if I use the SSD drive for the operating system boot and a hard drive for data. What will be the benefit of this effect,

I know that SSDS starts much more quickly and reads and writes data faster.

When I use the SSD for OS then my only wil advantage so I have faster from the OS, not more than

but the reading and writing data wil either by the hard drive so I wil not use all the benefits of the SSD, data wil be read and written by hard drive!

    Am I right or wrong?

    Johan

SSD benefits for most of the time of loading, and it is for all software. If you install Windows on a SSD and return to a HARD drive after a few weeks you will certainly appreciate the value of an SSD, just for the

    only the loading.

While startup in Windows is the most obvious, the Windows advantage is usually a bit snappier

    on an SSD.

An SSD expected to also help in many programs such as Photoshop, video editing, the processing speeds

or CAD, due to data being created during the writing of these programs.

I think the reads and writes more visible with large files.

All my programs are on the SSD, but my games are on the HARD disk.

Games to load a large number of data and will load faster on an SSD, but it's still a few seconds.

and as games use a lot of Go, it is not really profitable to keep (150 +) on an SSD.

-J' I keep most of my data, except the music (to save space) in my user folder, but haven't really

noticed a difference in speed when opening a data file, such as a Word, PDF, images, or similar

'small' files from the HARD drive.
-I wouldn't take an SSD less 120 GB. Try to run Windows on a 60GB translate too

stuffing autour with management of data between the SSD and HDD. In particular, as it should be

keep 20% an SSD free to allow the two "garbage collection" and deliver a load of

cells of extra memory to extend the life of the DSS (data gets moved to empty cells when the cells die).

There is also a noticeable difference between the speeds of SATA2 and SATA 3 controller, so if your motherboard uses the SATA2 more the advantage of an SSD is not as great as with SATA3.

In addition, the new SATA3 SSD controllers are faster than those of two years ago.

SSD is a big enough topic. There are many items in the wild that may be useful.

  • What is the HP Digital Imaging Monitor? Apply to my operating system, Windows 7?

What is the HP Digital Imaging Monitor? Apply to my operating system, Windows 7? I want to remove the icon from the task bar (toolbar in the lower right corner of the screen) that I never use it.

Picardjc wrote that "Digital imaging monitor is part of the HP software that communicates with your HP printer. This program allows to read the inklevels, get an out of paper message, scan from the device to the computer and so on. It is not necessary, but it will restrict the use of printers if you delete. "Understood. But for my printer HP Officejet Pro 8000 A809a, what is the purpose of having the digital imaging monitor icon in the taskbar Windows7 sp1 of the Notification area (aka system tray)? My A809a is NOT an all-in-one that includes a scanner; It is simply a very good printer. When I start to print something, if you need ink or paper, that information is displayed on the screen of my computer. So I ask again: why is the icon of monitor digital imaging on the taskbar? I clicked on at the time of this icon (I not print anything, but as usual, the printer is turned on), and nothing happened. R.N. (Roger) Folsom _ P.S. below I'll post some other discussions (with links to their locations) of the digital imaging monitor, I discovered before finding this site on which I am writing. There are a variety of opinions on what makes the digital imaging monitor. HP Digital Imaging Monitor is for HP director system tray access. This is necessary if you want to use the buttons of all-in-one on a HP printer all in one to scan documents or transfer photos from a camera manually. Closing the icon monitor HP digital imaging in the Windows system tray can cause the HP all-in-one to lose part of its scanning features and not the connection error message. In this case, you can restore all functionality by restarting the computer or by starting the HP digital imaging monitor. [Edited] 03/08/2011 14:05 - edited? 03/08/2011 14:08 Yes, it is safe to remove. In my view, it is usually in the program group under start / all programs / startup. Simply navigate under the Start button, right-click on it and delete! If it is not there, then remove it from the registry: run regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete it from the list in the right pane. If she is not there, then try hkey_current_user\\software\\microsoft\\windows\\currentversion\\run it's better than using msconfig and uncheck it. In my opinion, msconfig must always be set to Normal startup. Your printer will always print without that annoying obstructive utility called Digital Imaging Monitor. Ciao! • Is it possible to install multiple copies of Windows 7 in Virtualbox as guest operating system

    Hello

My laptop runs on Linux OS, I installed VirtualBox. Now, I would like to install multiple copies of Windows 7 on VirtualBox as a guest operating system.

    Is this possible?

My activation will expire after 3 installations?

What are the limits in this situation?

Microsoft treats several facilities in VirtualBox (as guest operating system) as a single installation instance? I think that the hardware (motherboard) is used as a fingerprint to detect changes in the systems, but as the material is going to be the same custom installation will be treated as a single instance?

    Help, please...

    Thank you

    one

    Hello

There are not 3 installs with 1 license

A Windows license is for a single installation, and this includes in Virtual Machines.

    See you soon.

  • T of what guest operating systems will start the VMware Support for EFI?

Is there a list of support guest OS for the EFI firmware?  Mianly supported by VMware - do not try, fail, call support technique etc etc.   My experiences on the TP forums, I guess that there is not.  Some OS (such as Windows Server) come with a screen to choose BIOS/EFI firmware.  If not, you need to go to setting > Hard Drive OPtions-> advanced _ > boot using EFI.  In particular there at - it versions of Linux that you give you option of BIOS/EFI firmware before the confutation of VM is complete, so the hard drive then be custom.

We will officially support the EFI firmware for any guest operating system to which all the following conditions are met:

    • We list this guest operating system, supported in the VMware Compatibility Guide for operating systems and your virtualization product.
    • The guest operating system supports EFI in the operating system installation media.
    • Support the guest OS EFI has no catastrophic flaws (for example Fedora 12 x 64, FreeBSD 11, Centos 6.0 through all the 6.2 have catastrophic flaws).

New computer virtual assistant of 11 workstation has only the option of EFI firmware for Windows clients.  Special mention, do not yet support us Easy Install for non EFI customers in 11 workstations.  For all other customer support EFI OSes, you can do a manual installation after choosing the EFI firmware in the virtual machine settings > Options > Advanced > Boot with EFI instead of the BIOS.

I don't understand your concern about the personalization of the hard drive... Could you elaborate?

    See you soon,.

  • Trouble installing the guest operating system

    All,

Having trouble installing the guest operating system - Windows XP SP3. I followed the directions of the booklet that I try to boot from a local image and a CD. I can't able to get into the setup of the BIOS to start the virtual machine when you press F8. I am currently on a decentralized network that starts his BONES from a PXE server. When I turn on my VM, its shows the boot process than my actual desktop. I tried many configurations, but still problems. All instight would be useful. Thank you.

    Welcome to the forums!

To enter the VMWare guest BIOS press F2, no F8.

You can also add 'bios. BootDelay = 10000 "in the prompt .vmx file. This gives you more time to press F2.

The virtual guest has a CD-ROM attached to it?

Is it "connect to turn on?

Is it connected to the physical machine (where the OS CD is inserted)?
