Use server monitor for a guest operating system?

I'm about to install two invited on an ESXi 4.0 Server operating systems, but I really want to use the display of the ESXi server for a Windows XP client computer.  Is this possible?  So far, the ESXi console is what happens on the primary video display card.  Should I just a secondary video card I can devote to the guest OS?  I hope the host operating systems are not just accessible on the network.

TKS,

-Jason

Unfortunately, your "hope not" is the case.  There is no option to use the system to display the operating system prompted with ESX or ESXi (with or without a second video card).  Its designed as a server operating system, not something that you interact with directly.

  • Free virtualization software takes supported Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system?

    People,

Hello. I need to install the Windows 7 host virtualization software, and then install Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

VMware Workstation supports Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system, but it's not free download.

People know that supports virtualization software free Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system invited?

    Thanks in advance.

As I said in your previous post, VMWare Player is a free download and does not support Win7 as host and Win2k3 as a guest.  VMWare Player is also included with VMWare Workstation, you can imply that most of the time something that supports VMWare Workstation as a guest operating system is also a guests supported for the reader.

And unlike previous versions, player 3 includes the ability to create virtual machines base.  For many people, especially those who are starting just in virtualization, player is sufficient.

VMWare Workstation, although not free, can be installed as a 30 day trial.  After the trial, you can not start your virtual machines in my computer, but because the player is included in the installation, you can still run your virtual machines in the drive without having to uninstall anything.  So just install Workstation.  After the trial expires, if you wish that the advanced features of the workstation, then buy it.  If not, just continue to use the drive.

If you really want to use it for installation, you will need to extract the driver from the VMware Tools ISO and add it to a disk image.

    • DVD: seems to be the right choice for me, although large

    • CD 1 of 7: will probably ask me to mount other CD.

    • the netinstall CD: should work if the virtual machine has network connectivity good to contribute to the installation

Thanks in advance for all advice here... Lyle

I always use DVD iso file (download via bittorrent client). Not only that you get everything you need in a single iso file, but it is easier to manage on the data store (where you keep the iso files OS). Locate a mirror which seems to be more close to where you are (in the world/country) and allows to start with. Of course, your connection speed will dictate how long it takes to download the file. I also usually download files iso of OS at home, so that I don't have to worry about sucking to the top of the bandwidth in the office, and I have no need to worry about a firewall rule prevents me to get the files.

Once the installer has spent three or four cd iso files, I opted to enter the DVD ISO... It's simply more light and to download the iso DVD because it does not worry about change iso files during installation, or have several virtual cd/dvd drives connected to a single virtual machine. It is also faster set-up, because that's what reading the single iso file, not seven.

  • VMware - SAN verses server for the guest operating system

We set up our VMware environment 4 years ago and want to replace the hardware and upgrade to VSphere. We are now part of a large organization and they are questioning our original facility regarding using a San to host Windows Server guests in this environment. They believe that a San is only for storage and VMware customers have to live on a server. I'm looking for confirmation that we use "best practices" by having the OS guest systems on a San, rather than a server. I'd really like something VMware that says to use a SAN and why. It's our Installer; We have 4 servers ESX 3.5 with dual processors core quad, 32 GB of ram and quad port network adapters. The ESX servers connected to the SAN via redundant fiber via HABs connections. The SAN has 6 TB of storage space and we accommodate 24 people from Windows 2003. I say that we have this right and they say I should welcome the guests on a server and not a SAN. My point is why are in charge of the server OS and everything that comes with it as patching and antivirus and multiple HBA when I can get a SAN form HP at equal or lower cost. I just need help to make my case.

Shared storage is a requirement for features such as vMotion, DRS, and HA.

It is certainly having a guest on local storage, but what happens if you have a question of host or need maintenance?   If you use a shared storage and you need to host maintenance you can simply vMotion the VMS to another host and there is no interruption of service.   Without shared storage log off the virtual machines or need to spend downtime to migrate them to another host.   If a host goes down, your VM on local storage is down until the host is repaired.  With HA and a shared storage, another host will reboot the virtual machine and it will be online in a few minutes.

  • recommendation of the memory for the guest operating system

    Hi guys,.

    I need some advice

I have a pile of vsphere 5 made of 2 servers on each server that I have on 5 VM

    (1) domain contoller 2008 standard edition + dhcp + dns

    2) exchange 2010

    (3) file server

    (4) primavera

My question is what is the recommended memory and cpu for these VM configuration? I'm a bit confused

What happens if I don't set up the limits and booking hotel and leave all default? What is the point of the week in this configuration? If I leave all default each VM does not use memory a cpu as it needs?

    Thank you specify in advance

To add the tips of memory... Many people allocates memory for the virtual machines that will never be used, and ultimately you consume the memory of your host much faster than necessary. Start low when allocating memory to a virtual computer. Adding memory is simple to make, after you have collected on the functioning of your host performance data. The Performance tab will show you what is happening.

  • computer host cannot use the internet but the guest operating system can

Hello, I am using vmware workstation 10 and have implemented a windows virtual xp (I am running windows 7). I chose bridged to my connection and internet mode works very well within the xp, but when you try to use the internet on my host computer it does not work. He said that I have no internet access but if it works on my virtual machine, then what's wrong?

BTW I have configured in bridge to my wireless adapter if it makes a difference. also cannot use nat or host

    any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

Then maybe it's a problem with your WiFi router no longer allowing a connection when using bridged and if it is it is not a question of VMware itself.   What brand and model of router?

  • T of what guest operating systems will start the VMware Support for EFI?

Is there a list of support guest OS for the EFI firmware?  Mianly supported by VMware - do not try, fail, call support technique etc etc.   My experiences on the TP forums, I guess that there is not.  Some OS (such as Windows Server) come with a screen to choose BIOS/EFI firmware.  If not, you need to go to setting > Hard Drive OPtions-> advanced _ > boot using EFI.  In particular there at - it versions of Linux that you give you option of BIOS/EFI firmware before the confutation of VM is complete, so the hard drive then be custom.

We will officially support the EFI firmware for any guest operating system to which all the following conditions are met:

    • We list this guest operating system, supported in the VMware Compatibility Guide for operating systems and your virtualization product.
    • The guest operating system supports EFI in the operating system installation media.
    • Support the guest OS EFI has no catastrophic flaws (for example Fedora 12 x 64, FreeBSD 11, Centos 6.0 through all the 6.2 have catastrophic flaws).

New computer virtual assistant of 11 workstation has only the option of EFI firmware for Windows clients.  Special mention, do not yet support us Easy Install for non EFI customers in 11 workstations.  For all other customer support EFI OSes, you can do a manual installation after choosing the EFI firmware in the virtual machine settings > Options > Advanced > Boot with EFI instead of the BIOS.

I don't understand your concern about the personalization of the hard drive... Could you elaborate?

    See you soon,.

  • How to map ports to guest operating system?

    Hi all:

I installed the new server of vmware on Redhat Linux AS5 and created a virtual machine and installed another operating system, the use of the guest operating system NAT to connect the host operating system. the host operating system has a public IP address. It seems work. the guest can access the internet.

but I want the prompt that OS can run an internet service, such as a mail server. I use iptable card some ports for the guest operating system, but it did not work. I don't know that the firewall rules are correct, because if I use the computer to run the guest operating system, it will work.

    the following iptables rules:

    iptables t nat - a PREROUTING d 210.x.x.x Pei tcp m multiport - destination-port 25,110,143,465,993,995-j DNAT - destination 192.168.5.1

    Hello

I think you should edit the file nat.conf on your host computer.

Have you read the related chapter in p.251 Manual ?

How should be written the script for the use of the maximum memory of the guest operating system ever?

Please teach the name of the object and the type and order, etc.

You should be able to do it with the cmdlet Get-Stat .

    Something like that

    Get-Stat -Entity (Get-VM $vmName) -Stat mem.usage.maximum -Start (Get-Date).AddDays(-7) | Measure-Object -Property value -Maximum | Select Maximum

This will return the maximum percentage in the last 7 days for the guests, whose name is stored in the variable $vmName.
