  We do similar things to what you seem to want, with data on a BlackBerry.  We have the client software on the BlackBerry that synchronize data with the server.  The server can push updates, but this only (currently at least) works in a BES environment.  Once the data are extensive, the application program that receives the data can do what he wants with it, including be persisted.

  If you don't want to write all of this, then I would look at Sybase offer.

  How slow is slow? For example, my machine (e-machine E4264 2.2 ghz with 2 GB RAM) boots in 95 seconds. For me, I call it, in the average. I am currently in the process of looking for a new machine because it is already 3 years old, so maybe that OEN will be slightly faster to start.

  Make folders for each artist does nothing on the "rocket". The "rocket" sail by ID3 tags, folder. If the music is not protected, you can use Windows Explorer or my computer to copy files to the player. It works in the MTP or MSC mode. For copyrighted music, you must use a program like Windows Media Player and MTP mode to transfer music, otherwise the license transfer to the player and the player will not play them.

I thought that the properties/summary/comments (and keywords) would be likely to be on board for many years (legacy stuff). Jac I can't find any program that uses or leans on them today! And I just saw a pic of the Win7 properties and guess what? No summary! Picassa is quite widely used but who knows. Nothing is stable for a long time. Can not even get to diskettes and CDs and cassettes now become more difficult to find. And DVDs are on the side too. How can I put the photos on the long term and accessible storage?

  My plan is to use Picassa and .jpg. I'll put a copy of Picassa on every DVD that I use (in data mode). I'll do a mode DVD video slide show as a backup. The disks are pretty cheap even for me. I will not use double layer, but too unreliable. And I intend to check them every few years for readability. I have a few CD that can be read even with 12 years older data recovery programs.

  So if anyone has any comments, suggestions or additions, let it go. I think that it is indeed an important subject, keeping old data accessible.

  1. I bought AVS Audio Converter, because he understands more than any freeware/shareware that I could find. But it also came with AVS Update Manager and AVS4YOU Software Navigator (totaling more than 19 MB)
  2. the software that controls my Creative Audigy sound cart also came with Creative MediaSource, Creative Software AutoUpdate and Creative System Information (totally more than 156 MB).
  I could just try and shoot them, but I don't know if I will get a warning that this program X program requires Z 'talk' to the program. When it comes to repairing the damage be re-setup, let's say that my efforts to keep track of original installation CD have been well intentioned but above all ineffective. Two examples are just the visible part of the iceberg. I'll have to contact technical support for each company that sold me the software? Alternatives?

  The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

  Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

  You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.
