What to do when system is (sometimes) low virtual memory?

Hello;

( 1) this laptop is quite obsolete by standard today, but there still some life in it!
... Compaq: Win XP Prof SP3
.... 847 MHz, 128 MB RAM
.... Processor AMD Athlon x 86
.... Total physical memory 128 MB
.... Total virtual memory 2.00 GB
.... Hard Drive 20.GB, 50% free
.... Internet connection broadband (for the automatic updates of Windows, antivirus updates, etc.)

( 2) I use it sometimes for some quick tasks, especially when other phones running long programs, and I feel more comfortable leaving them alone!
The laptop in question has both floppy 3.5 "drive and the DVD, which makes it very convenient to run old programs (short) directly from floppy disks without having to copy it to a CD (or other media) and run the programs on a faster m/c.
(although I did transfer a few times!)

( 3) recently, sometimes when I log-in {with no floppy or CD or any application (to my knowledge) running}, I get the following message:
... "Windows - virtual memory minimum
..... Your system's virtual memory.
..... Increases the size of your Windows virtual memory paging file.
..... " This process may be denied the requests of memory for applications more."
I don't do anything.  Just wait for the system to calm down (which takes a while!), ignore some error messages "system program not responding" and then restart the system.

( 4) my question is:
a... Is there a way (not at risk) practice to increase theVirtual Memory on a given (even on request) system?
b... Depends on the physical memory and hardware VM system, and unless one or both are upgraded, you can do nothing about the virtual machine?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello;

( 1) I changed the size of emory Initial & MaximumVirtual Mto 2000 MB each and ignored VM = 1.5 * RAM.
Following system starts (so far) have not displayed the Windows message:
""Minimum virtual memory".
noted above in the OP.

( 2) if it is a temporary solution, or the only solution in the circumstances (mobile no stretch), I'm not sure!
I would mark the question as answered for now, subject to more detailed advice.

Kind regards.

I am new to this, so please forgive me if I mess up. My problem is "low virtual memory" in my Defrag. program. I check MS support solutions and I deleted all the unwanted files and the files and programs that are no longer needed. When defraging, there is quite some time the % is down to 2% and 8% and is now @ 5%. I find myself running my "Perfect Optimizer" program and the file scan and defragmentation programs constenly. Here is some info from the library of Microsoft:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory

However, if your virtual machine is already set to auto, then remove the auto and assign customized with size to 2 and the max at 1152

  • Satellite 1100: Excel keeps freezing - too low virtual memory

I have a satellite 1100. My Microsort Excel program keeps freezing (mainly when I print or you are trying to save) and then tells me to stop.

So, I also have a message icon telling me that I am low on virtual memory. Microsoft stop related to memory being low?

How can I increase the memory? Or do I just need a new laptop! Help, please.

    Hello

Satellite 1100 is really an old classic, but he should be able to use common desktop applications such as Word or Excel with no problems
Virtual memory also known under the name a paging file is a file on your disk (default C:\pagefile.sys) than Windows applications and use more physical memory (RAM) according to your needs. The default and the recommended of pagefile.sys size is 1.5 times the amount of physical memory. Virtual memory is the amount of physical memory and the pagefile. So, if your computer has 512 MB of RAM, there is a page file 768 MB by default, for a total of 1.25 GB of physical + virtual memory.

So what to do in your case? Generally, the RAM upgrade should solve this problem. You can also try to increase the size of the pagefile.sys.
This can be done in system-> tab advanced properties-> Performance settings-> advanced-> virtual memory change tab.

After the change of virtual memory, you have to restart the laptop again.
If this will not help then an upgrade of RAM would be required or a new laptop effective ;)

  • My PC is always low virtual memory. Why does.

Even when my PC does not all open programs, I still have a warning box will appear to tell me that windows is low on virtual memory.

I run XP home edition 2004.

I recently xferred my photo + music files to an external hard drive, but I still tell me that memory is low!

What is the cause + I can do anything to put this right?

Explorer is too slow and often egg or begins to force me to use the Task Manager to close the program does not. Is this related to this memory problem?

    Two points:

    1. What are you describe is a function of two or three of the following:
    (a) who is not enough of physical memory (also called RAM)
    (b) too many programs and processes running (perhaps due to a malware infection)
    (c) incorrect virtual memory configuration
    2. you're confused memory and hard disk space when you say "I recently xferred my photo + music files to a drive external hard but I said always not the memory is low!
    This page explains the difference:
Getting back to your question, you must help us! You need to tell us what you have. Are the following:
-brand, model and model number of your PC
    -SP level
    -amount of RAM
If you are unsure, do a click right my computer and select Properties. Only necessary information should already be showing under the general tab to keep this window open for more later...
    -virtual memory setting
To do this, click on the Advanced System Properties window already open tab. Under performance, click settings. In the new performance Options window, click the Advanced tab. Under virtual memory, this figure is listed as the "Total paging file size for all drives"? Then click the button change.
Assuming that C: drive is highlighted, I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that a custom size is activated (in general, which is not a good idea!). Out of curiosity, what are these two values?
To make life a LOT easier, click on "System managed size". Then click on the Set button. Then click on the OK button. Then click on other buttons OK. Reset.
If you click on the size of the managed system, you must stop to get these annoying messages. (But your work isn't always more. You need see if you have enough RAM, or if there is something on your PC, hogging memory).
-size of the drive C: and the amount of free space available
To do this, double-click my computer. Click view on the menu bar, and then select Details. Under "Drives", what are the values of the size total and free space on C:?
-Tell us what antivirus or suite program you use. Is up to date?
-tell us if you ALL post-SP3 (assuming you have SP3!) security updates installed or not
-We say users of memory of the top 10 in the Task Manager
To do this, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, click on the processes tab click on use of Mem. Click again. (This will give you the biggest users of memory above.) What are the processes of ten albums? And what are the values according to the uses of Mem for each of them?
Manager tasks of maintaining open, click on the performance tab. Then the three values under Commit Charge (k) Note: in the lower left corner: Total, limit and peak.

The Total number represents the amount of memory you are using right now. The vertex figure represents the maximum amount of memory you made since the last boot. If these figures are lower than the value of the amount of physical memory (K), then you probably have lots of RAM. (But I doubt that you do!) Tell us about these figures.

As soon as we have the above information, we will have an idea what your situation is.

Since it's always a good idea to rule out malware (as malware uses a lot of memory, among other things!), you must do the following:

First, run the portable Analyzer of SAS:

    http://www.SUPERAntiSpyware.com/portablescanner.html

Then, run the version FREE of MBAM (not the version pro or trial!):

    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

    Let us know the results.

  • low virtual memory

I get the message that the virtual memory is low? What should I do?  Why is this happening?

    Hi LYDIAARRANAGA,

    ·         Since when are you facing this problem?

    ·         You did it all changes before the show?

If you receive warnings that virtual memory is low, you need to increase the minimum size of your pagefile. Windows sets the initial minimum size of the paging file to the RAM memory (RAM) installed on your computer plus 300 megabytes (MB) and maximum size of 3 times the amount of RAM installed on your computer.

If you see warnings at these recommended levels, and then increase the minimum and maximum sizes.

    a. click Start, right click my computerand then click Properties.

    b. in the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

    (c) in the results pane, click settings.

    d. in the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.

    e. in the virtual memory section, click change.

    f. change the value of initial size and maximum size to a higher value value, click the value, and then click OK.

    g. click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

  • How can I get more memory? Should I go through Dell (it is a Dell computer)? I get the message too low virtual memory.

I get the message "out of virtual memory"... In order to buy more memory, can I contact Dell for this (there is a Dell computer)?

"Out of virtual memory" has nothing to do with the amount of physical RAM you have installed.  These errors are caused by incompatible programs, too little free capacity available on the hard drive, correctly configured virtual memory (you set it so Windows automatically manages) or sometimes even by a severely fragmented hard disk partition.

But, if you decide you want to increase your RAM anyway, memory Crucial (www.crucial.com) website has a database to help find the right RAM for your specific brand and model computer or the motherboard.  (By the way, Crucial is the only company I have ever buy RAM.)  I've never been disappointed.)  And it will be significantly cheaper than buying at Dell.

  • The display of file space of total Information System Page after changing virtual memory allocation?

I thought that I understood that I could set up a file.sys page on any available partition on Windows, if I wished, for example, to create more virtual memory or move a file to another drive. However the changes I make to my computer are not appearing in the system information, after a reboot - why is - this?

I have successfully configured internal auxiliary training to take on a pagefile.sys when you use the system advanced settings in the computer file system properties. Page created on the auxiliary drive single file memory is equal to once and a half the size of the physical memory of the computer.

As I had created a larger file of the Page on the auxiliary drive, I then decided to reduce the Page file on the boot up to 300 MB drive. When I did make changes, I clicked on the set then OK and then I rebooted the entire computer.

After restarting the computer, I tried to check system information for a summary of the changes I had made to the file Page and virtual memory space and I was disappointed to see that the pagefile on the auxiliary drive does not show upward. Information system had just recorded space Page MB 300 in C:\pagefile.sys file, and there is no trace of the larger Page file that I created on the auxiliary drive. How is that?

If I go back to the virtual memory window in advanced system settings, it clearly shows I changed two files Page. Yet in Information System shows only the boot Page file drive. How is that?

I always use Internet Explorer with only 300 MB Page file space, and it works really faster than the default virtual memory allocation, however the system soon slows down after opening about 5 instances of Internet Explorer and the system starts asking to close application windows down to save memory. So why does the system not switch to use the Page file on the auxiliary drive?
