  • Error when you try to open Device Manager in Windows 7 Professional.

When I try to open Device Manager or the computer management window, I get an error message similar to the following:

MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc.

It is perhaps because the file does not exist, is not the MMC, or was created by a later version of MMC. Perhaps it is also because you don't have sufficient access to the file.

File c:/windows/system32/devmgmt.msc has the tool box is red (which I think its usually grey (normal))

    Hi GodzillaSurfer,

Try these steps and check if it solves the problem:

    1. Click Start , type cmd, right click and select run as administrator.

    2. at the command prompt, type regsvr32 msxml3.dll , and then press ENTER.

In addition, if the step above does not resolve the problem, you can run a scan of auditor of file system (CFS) on your computer. SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

Same error as I face before but I have a solution in this forum, but now I could not someone help please.

I know its something like that when Explorer attempt to generate the preview of this video file, then it happened.

It is indeed a problem with the preview generator.  It relies on any installed video codecs installed on your system to process video images and build a miniature.  If you have recently installed a video or multimedia software, you can try to uninstall it, or by using the system restore to roll back.

Similarly, you can try to install different software.  The K-Lite Mega Codec pack has been around for a while and is quite popular.  After you install, your system can play almost any file (sweet bonus tip: media player uses codecs found so: after installing it, you can even play Real Audio or QuickTime files inside Windows Media Player).

    Hi I_GHall

It seems that you receive the message you want to software conflicts. I suggest you try to disable either the Avira antivirus and windows defender and then check if the problem resolves.

If you disable any security software for troubleshooting temporarily, so don't forget to activate after troubleshooting is completed that your computer will be at risk.

  • When you try to install my new Embird program I get the message "this link must be opened with an application, select application. What does that mean?

Help, I hope that I've not messed up, too bad!

Help, I have a small embroidery business and have used a program called Embird.  Yesterday, I downloaded an upgrade for this program. It said to uninstall the old program before installing the new, so I did.  Now when I try to install the new one it says this link must be opened with an application, select application.  I have no idea what it means that someone can help me?  I tried to restore the computer to a date prior to just start all over hoping he would restore the old Embird, it says that the file may be damaged and will not work.

If you were able to 'merge', you have unzipped the file somehow.  What was all the messages when you did the merger?

    Follow these steps:

1 information about the particular file in question

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Properties.  What does say for 'File Type' and what is the 3-letter file extension (after the point)?

If there is no file extension, find the file using Windows Explorer, and then click Tools > Folder Options > view.  Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and click OK.  Now, look at the file again for the file extension.

    2. test of exe files

Click Start > run, then type notepad in the "open" box, then click OK
Didn't open a Notepad window?  If not, what error message do you have?

Click Start > run, and then type the following in the "Open" box and click OK
    %SystemRoot%\system32\
Find notepad.exe (or just Notepad if file extensions are not displayed), and then double-click it.  What is going on?

    Hi Bob,

    1. in open file are you get this error message?

    2. don't you make changes on the computer before this problem?

This problem may occur if one of the following scenarios arises on your PC.

    • You do not have permissions for the file or the location of the file.
    • The file is located on a site that is not accessible at the moment as a network location or an external drive that is not currently connected to the computer.
    • The file has been moved or deleted.
    • The shortcut or the file is corrupted.
    • The file may be blocked by Windows.
    • Your anti-virus software may block the file.

    Refer to the help article:

Important: Disable your antivirus or changed settings can make your PC vulnerable to viral, fraudulent, or malicious attacks. Microsoft does not recommend that you disable your antivirus software or change settings. If you need to temporarily disable your anti-virus software, you should reactivate as soon as you are finished. Use this workaround at your own risk.

  • When I try to open a program, a window opens asking what I would use to open the program. Why?

  • Windows Media-Play list. When I try and play it says that it cannot find the usage rights

    Hello

    Method 01:

I suggest you follow the link and check.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_media_player_diagnostic

    Method 2:

Try the remedy proposed below and let us know if it works for you.

    (a) click on the Start menu, choose all programs, then Accessories, and then right-click on the element of the command prompt and select run as administrator

    (b) click on continue to allow it to open a prompt with administrator privileges

    (c) run this command at the cmd prompt: sfc/scannow

    (d) the cmd prompt should list text stating "start system analysis. This process will take time. »

    (e) wait for the scan to complete (this may take several minutes, so be patient).  This command will scan all protected system files and attempt to replace the incorrect versions by appropriate Microsoft versions

    (f) when the analysis is complete, the SFC tool will indicate whether or not it found no problems and whether or not he was able to correct

    (g) if any errors are reported that SFC could not resolve, there are steps in this knowledge base article which explain how to locate and attempt to correct errors

    (h) after the correction of the errors that are found, try to use Windows Vista Media Player again.

I suggest you to follow the links and check out them.

My aunt has Windows Vista on her computer and whenever she tries to open a pdf file that opens Windows Media Center. Is there a way to get Windows Vista to point to Acrobat Reader to open the file, or should it go directly to the RA? Thanks for any help you can give on this subject.

    Steve

    PS; I don't know if it's 32-bit or 64-bit.
    * original title - PDF problem on windows Vista *.

Acrobat Reader or Adobe Reader? Personally, I wouldn't use Adobe at all, but try this. Skip #1 if it is already on the HARD drive.

    Create a file association.

    1. download and save the attachment to the office.
    2. right click on the saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
    4. click on: choose [default] program.
    5. Select: PDF reader program.
    6. check: always use the selected program to open this type of file.
    7. click on OK.

Good. It is a very bad choice, in my opinion.

    > Just use windows security.

It has no product called Windows Security. Do you mean Microsoft
    Security Essentials?

    > with all the protections on and running except windows Defender, it's my error 0X800106ba issue code

If you mean that Microsoft Security Essentials, it turns off Windows
Defender, because it does essentially the same thing itself and you
don't need both. It is not a problem, and you should not try to fix it.

When I try to open the pages or numbers on my iMac so that I get "new version required" open documents saved I must login to iCloud and open from there. Why? These same documents are readily available on my iPad. I bought both programs and all updates are current. Not very happy with this complicated route I take to work on a document

You attempted to open a document v5 of Pages via the file picker Pages ' 09. Exit Pages ' 09 and then double-click on the same document to open it in Pages v5. You will not have this problem on iOS, because iOS Pages or Pages for iCloud open the two versions of the documents.

  • I have doqnloaded a new Mozilla and it responds when I try to open a new tab.

The browser opens a new tab for the resolution of the problems, but when I try to open a tab, nothing happens.

No idea where you picked up the extension of the Sammsoft toolbar? A web search indicates that it might be unwanted software.

    Try turning it off here:

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

If a link appears above the extension after the deactivation, click on that restart Firefox to complete the process.

Does make a difference with your new tab button?

In addition, pop up blocker works for a while and then stops working. I have to close and restart Firefox to make it work again. Help!

I had the same problem, but with Firefox 4.0. My first thought was last updated to Firefox (after of course restarting FF), but it did not help and I had the same problem.

Among others, I had an extension installed and enabled called tile tabs 4.10 I thought could easily create this problem. I went in my Add-ons Manager and disabled, restarted Firefox and tabs worked properly again. Unfortunately, the extension of the tile tabs is my favorite Firefox Add-on and I use it almost every day to manage my web tasks. I went to the page Add on for tile tabs and saw that there was a notice that version 4.10 did not work properly on Mac OS and install version 4.9 of the extension. I saw that they had a new is not-yet-seen version 4.11 who has tackled the problem of Mac OS, installed, and everything seems to work properly.

I have no idea why all of a sudden I had this problem as I don't had not updated Firefox or the extension of the tile tabs recently. Also, obviously this could not solve your problem, especially if you have the module installed and active. But our problem started at the same time for both of us it seems based on your post time, so its probably not a coincidence.

But its worth a quick glance and you can check other extensions if you don't have the legs of tile that might be the cause of the problem.
