Where is my catalog?

When Lightroom does not record catalogs? I'm having issues opening Lightroom CC (pending an answer to this question...) and want to work on images using my desktop version of Lightroom 5 in the meantime. However, I can't find the Lightroom Catalog correct that I worked on recently. Where should I look for this?

I'm working on an iMac.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi geewren,

By default, Lightroom stores catalogs in the following folders:

  • Windows: \Users\[username]\Pictures\Lightroom
  • Mac OS: /Users/[username]/ pictures/Lightroom

  • Two computers OK, but where are the catalogs and collections?

I guess I missed something here, but I'm new on this.

I have an iMac desktop and a Windows 10 laptop. CC of Lightroom installed on both and both work well.

But I don't think I understand this cloud thing. I assumed that I could create a catalog, collections slideshows etc. on my iMac. Then I could sign and go out with my Windows laptop. Then I

could sign in Lightroom CC on my laptop and BOOM, there is all the stuff that I created on my iMac on my laptop via the cloud.

I assumed that all the work that I do was preserved in a cloud of Lightroom, but I now think that I'm wrong. Am I?

If so, how can I do things on my iMac, and then synchronize with my laptop Windows 10?

    Thank you.

  • I'm almost happy!  My old Lightroom catalog was recovered!

I used Lightroom 3 on a Vista computer for a long time.  Saved all my images, external hard drives, but have not saved my catalog. Computer Vista died last year where the Lightroom catalog was stored. I was told it would be a lot of money to fix the computer so I bought a new 10 Windows instead.

3.6 Lightroom loaded on the new computer, my imported images from hard drives external and is returned to work, edit and import new photos, so start a new catalog.

My old computer has recently been brought back to life!  I copied the old computer lrcat file and pasted into the folder on my new computer where the lrcat.  I opened Lightroom, choose "Import Catalog", selected the 'old' catalogue, which then opened a dialog box requiring some choices to make.

Please help me with the choices.

News Photos, file management: 1 Add new photos to catalog without moving or 2. Don't upload new photos.  I think that the import is correct.

Change the existing Photos, replace: 1. the metadata and develop settings only or 2. Metadata, develop settings, and negative files.  I'm confused on the negative files and the correct choice.

Thank you for your attention, very grateful for your help.

You do not want to import the catalog file, you want to use the file-> open catalog command.

  • How can I protect he'S catalogs when installing software for SSD drive & 2nd data disc

I know that this has been answered a thousand times... but when I search, I find that a 1 000 answers and none relate exactly to my question...

    I have a laptop

I have a technician install a 1 TB Solid State Drive adjacent to the existing "spin drive" provided with the laptop (1 TB)

I'm having the existing drive spin "wiped clean" and reformatted

I him have to put all THE SOFTWARE, including 10 Windows on the SSD drive

CC - Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop will operate the SSD

My 'current' workflow about 6 weeks of photography is retained on the SSD for faster treatment

These last about 6 to 8 months of photography will be kept on the existing "spin drive" came with the computer.

Previous work will be kept on a 3 TB external storage drive

I'm dragging 633 GB of photos of my 'drive spin' on my drive external hard to ensure the guard with the upgrade is performed.

    ...........................

And here is my fight...  I don't know enough about Adobe CC to make sure that I have all my files protect.       I know that I have several catalogs, but the drop-down list on the menu (at the signing in LR) shows about 8-10 choice and I'm only using 4 or 5!

How Lightroom find my Photos after I drag them back to the newly - reformatted "spin drive?   I know how to find a lost file manually... So should I do hundreds of records, I have?

Where my LR catalog folder will be stored?   Right now it is in my pictures folder.   It will be there if the Adobe program resides in the SSD?

I have more questions... but that's enough for now...

    Thank you

    John

First of all, your CPU is old and slow by today's standards, and clearly a faster CPU would do a faster job of making these backups.

In the second place, it is a very large catalog file, 9.2 GB. (Are you sure that you watched the .lrcat file and not the amount of space occupied by the photos?) Yes, you are supposed to use Windows Explorer to find the size of the. LRCAT file. For comparison, my catalog with almost 30 000 images is only 1.75 GB. All the brushing, you did apparently exploded the size of your catalog.

You can reduce the size of the catalog file by clearing the history on each photo (this leaves the changes in place but you will be able to go back in history and see the sequence of steps that you used). I'm not aware of a way to do bulk on each photo, but in the back of my mind, I think that this has been discussed in this forum and you might want to search for.

The last thing you might consider of doing backups until you go to sleep. Just leave Lightroom open until you go to bed, then close and let the process of backup with happiness.

So, that's all that I can think of to make this faster process right now (other that to split the catalog file, which has many disadvantages). Faster processor, remove the story and let Lightroom its backups when you sleep.

  • Reinstalled LR 5.7.1. Now can't access the catalogs and develop the module has been disabled. [was: Please help.]

I don't want to upgrade to CC LR6.  I have re-uploaded LR 5.7.1 last night, and now I can't have hundreds of my photos.  In addition, my develop module has been disabled.  How can I have access to all my catalogs and don't use NO of CC?

    Hi Pamelaa,

Go to the location where the Lightroom Catalog is stored and try the most recent catalog.

Also in Lightroom, go to file > open recent item and see if you have any other catalog here.

And for the disabled development module, please see: module development disabled

    Hello

What version of Lightroom do you use?

With Lr closed go to the location where your Lightroom Catalog (by default it is pictures/Lightroom)

Delete the. Lock file with the same name as your catalog. For example, in the image below, it is Lightroom4 catalog.lrat.lock

In your case, it will be Lightroomcatalog.lrcat.lock.Delete it

    Restart Lightroom.

  • I had to create a new catalog from a backup folder

Since the creation of this new catalogue... I don't have a backup inside newly created ths catalog folder. Help... everything I have is the main extracts of catalog-2 and -2.lrat with the lightroom icon. If this catalog crashes I have no backup... Although llightroom seems be save the catalog... where will the backkups!

When the dialog box is displayed prompting you to create a backup, there is an option to allow you to choose where your backups are stored. If I ever have to restore a backup catalog, I copy the backup catalog in the original folder where the other catalog. And backups should continue to be stored in their original location.

  • Do not synchronize Lightroom catalogs

Since the last update CC I had problems with my catalog. If I have two copies of a file on different drives, I can't synchronize files/folders. Example: I have some files on my LAcie Thunderbolt, which is my drive to work. I import files make the copies and adjustments and synchronize the folders that I work. When I'm finished, I copy a folder and subfolders to another external drive for backup because I have only 500 GB on my hard drive Lacie work. The files copied on and they appear in the finder. When I try to sync the file to the second disk it shows all the pictures but they are grayed out and clicking on an image shows 'already imported.

Of course, a bug has been introduced in the new version, where the Lightroom Catalog will not accept copies in the catalog, even if they are on separate drives. I was doing this for years and never had a problem, now with the update what happens. Adobe, fix as soon as POSSIBLE.

    Hi again,

Indeed, the ability to import duplicate images has been removed from this version, which could be the reason for the problem you are experiencing here.

should I remove LR and reload?

    Hi Charlesg,

  • LR6 found my really old LR1 catalog, but not my catalog LR2 - how can I install it as well?

I upgraded to LR6 yesterday again - I was using LR2 for several years (obviously...). The installation was smooth except LR6 installed my old catalogue LR1, according to me, not the LR2 catalog which is more current (seven years worth of missing photos). Can I download/install the LR2 catalog in my new version of LR6 by other means?

    Thank you

    Chris

    Hi Joel,

Open the old catalog Lightroom2 with Lightroom 6.

    Lightroom nearby

Navigate to the location where your Lightroom Catalog

Make a right click the catalogue Lightroom2 > open with > Adobe Lightroom.

Otherwise go to Lightroom > file > open catalog

    Open the catalog Lightroom2

    Hope this helps

  • How can I move a catalog from a computer off for a new installation of Lr?

I replaced my computer.  I have still the old one but it is not connected to the Internet and the HARD drive where the Lr catalog is installed has been removed.  I put the HARD drive on the new computer.  I think that all the photos and the file Lrcat is on the HARD drive that was on the old computer/new computer.

How can I go on extraction lrcat file that it finds and recognized the old catalog?  So I need to remap whatever it is?

    Thank you.

You are probably using Windows under a user account. I think you will find that if you set Lightroom to run as administrator you will have no problem. Given that you have renamed your Lightroom Catalog will not recognize it in any case. You will need to use the file-> Open to open the Catalog under the new name. But you'll probably have to run Lightroom as administrator.

  • I have my catalog on an external hard drive, trying to open it the error message saying "lightroom has encountered an error when reading the preview cache and need to stop smoking" and how can I remedy as all my work in this

I let close put it keeps appearing

I guess you know where your file catalog (lrcat). In the same folder is a folder of lrdata of previews that you must delete or rename in the Explorer, then start LR again.

If I made erroneous assumptions that above, sorry, and we will go back on it from the beginning.

  • The menu bar > file > open the element recent why only a few catalogs show their way?

I use Lightroom 5.3. When I go to the menu bar > file > open recent item only a few catalogs show their way. How can I make sure that all catlogs will show their passage here? I've attached a screen so you can see what I mean.Screen Shot 2014-04-07 at 1.33.37 PM.png

I would have thought that Lightroom shows that the full path to a catalog when there is more than one catalog name (so that you can differentiate)... where the recent catalogs have unique names, it is not necessary to the full to display path.
