Why a new tab open when I click on it? I just suffered searchqu and deleted successfully (fingers crossed) but now I have this problem. Help, please?

Since I've been infected by searchqu and removed (hopefully) so, when I try and click on the + to open a new tab, nothing happens. I also tried clicking on file, scroll to a 'new tab' but yet again, nothing happens. However, if I go to file then "new window", then it will open a new window - but what a nightmare! Please can someone help?

I use a specific website for the work. When I click on a hyperlink on the website that is supposed to generate an e-mail, it also generates a new tab for no reason. It is a waste of time. Happening on the same site in IE or Chrome.

Those are extensions for Firefox. You can access the Firefox Add-ons page using one of the following methods:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. On the right, enabled extensions are listed alphabetically, with the extensions disabled at the bottom.

As a general criterion for the problems caused by any extension, the user may try the same pages/functions Mode without failure of Firefox. It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

(Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works)

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not update).

If the problem disappears, usually that points to an extension as the culprit.

When I open a fresh tab, arrives with the Yahoo Search page. I went into options repeatedly to remove Yahoo, define search Google as my homepage and set Google as your default search page. Just keep coming back to Yahoo.

Actually, there is a parameter to the new tab page:

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter/return. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste newtab and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (3) double-click the preference browser.newtab.url and enter your favorite page:

    • (Default) page thumbnails = > subject: newtab
    • Blank tab = > subject: empty
    • Built-in Firefox homepage = > topic: welcome
    • Any other page = > full URL of the page

Press Ctrl + t to open a new tab and check that it worked. Fixed?

If the problems persist, some potential diagnoses and remedies:

If Firefox will not let you change this setting: you can have what is called SearchProtect on your system. This must be removed the control panel. If the status is 'locked' we'll need to help you investigate a configuration file "automatic".

Firefox if allows you to save your changes, but he doesn't know: one of your extensions may be the substitution of her. You can consult, disable and/or remove extensions on page modules. Either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a (Mac: command + shift + a)
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, take a critical look on the list on the right and turn off (or remove) something unknown. If you find something like Searchme, leads or tap, I will recommend additional cleaning measures.

If the modification works during your session, but during the next startup is return to the unwanted page: you could have a user.js file in your personal settings Firefox (your Firefox profile folder). • I can't make new tabs. When I click on the sign +, nothing happens.

I've had this problem for a few weeks now. I was hoping maybe after updating to Windows 7 I find the use of tabs, but it didn't. When I try to open a new tab in Firefox, nothing happens. Even if I right click and click 'New tab', nothing happens. I tried to restart my computer, Windows Update, update Firefox, restart Firefox, re-installing of Firefox and nothing has worked. I have a suspicion that something is simply not compatible with Windows 7. Firefox still works fine on my other computers - a Vista, the other XP.

Uninstall the Ask Toolbar. It can cause this problem.
