  If you use the default search parameters, it shouldn't have the search again (it should save the results).

  However, here is a tip that I would try if it was me: hold the Alt key and double-click the file, and then click 'Open file location' in this area. It's an extra step, but it retains the original file open.

  When you open an XPS document, the Viewer automatically opens the document in an Internet Explorer window. Two additional toolbars appear, one above and the other below, the XPS document. Each toolbar provides options to view and manage XPS documents.

  Right-click on the downloaded XPS file that you want to display, select Open with>choose the default program then Internet explorer and click OK.
