Now when I open LR all I see are a bunch of empty frames (with icons of exposure but setting no image). How to get back to where I was before I clicked on this issue?   It is not so easy to help you if you don't answer the questions more precisely.

  If you accidentally open a backup catalog, then all previes should still show but you miss your imports and changes since the last backup. Make sure you use the correct catalog, more up-to-date.

  General rule: do all file/folder changes in LR not in Explorer.

  Most likely, you have created a new catalog. Try the menu file-> open recent and open each catalogue shown here until you find the right one.
