  Try ctrl + w on Windows or command + w on mac. Just as an info, the latest version of Firefox has a new design that makes it much easier to see which tab you are currently using.

  Not sure on the first part - maybe you are ready to 'Use Global Light' and which is at the origin of the parts not to replace the global settings.

  Regarding the second part, there are selection commands relative layer, which can cause the layer just above or below the one you are about to be made active.  [I remember well, the keys are Alt] and Alt [.]  Given that these are relative, they do good things to save stock.  There are also strikes to load Photoshop to access the highest or lowest, layer Alt and Alt >.  These have obvious uses as well.
