Re: Portege Z930 - default display brightness is level 2 Win7 64 bit

Whenever I connect to my laptop Toshiba Portege Z930 Windows 7 64 bit by default screen is the brightness of level 2. This seems to be with the FN + F6/F7 feature.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using the original version of the OS preinstalled?
Is there a difference when using the laptop with the battery or the power supply?
Change the brightness settings in the power plan that you use, and I hope that this should not be changed.

I've seen a few posts about this, but I can't find the most recent, or one that might contain the answer to my problem

Under XP, when I put a view in a folder (for example sort date dy), I was able to apply this view to all folders or this folder only.  I used the apply to this folder only on all my files, for various reasons.

Now, I can't seem to find this feature, so my files always open in alphabetical order.

In some posts that I read, it seems that this feature has been removed from Win7.  Hard to believe that it has not been restored, given the number of posts complaining about this.

No one knows the real answer to this?

  • Portege Z930 - display driver does not work properly

    Hello

We have a Portege Z930 with Windows 7 64 bit in use where the Intel display driver seem to work fine.

First problem is the slow presentation on screen - if we open a (simple JPG) photo and move the window, the frame window break during the move and showed very weird.

Then, we have installed a U3.0 dynadock docking for the use of two external displays more. This method works even worse. To the docking station, we used the driver from the CD supplied in the delivery and connect to a USB 3.0 connector.

On starting switching on 2 screens instead of internally for computer laptop screen does not work - and we use workaround of using an extended desktop on all 3 displays (2 external and internal display for laptop as the third).

In Internet Explorer, it should turn off GPU Rendering and use Software Rendering rather because otherwise, we observed critical irregularities on the external screens (with 2 Windows Open the screen froze or could not display Windows Mobile). However the display isn't satisfactioning.

We have tried 3 different versions of the recommended Driver Intel which is also offered by Toshiba to download; We loaded it is there and also 2 versions more (a more recent, one older) Intel directly.

So, how can we get this working properly?

Thanks in advance and best regards,
    N. Cochems

More importantly. Make sure you have Service Pack 1 installed Win7. New laptops have problems running in win7 RTM (without service pack).

It seems that Windows uses the standard VGA driver instead of the Intel driver. Uninstall all display drivers from Control Panel-> programs and features and then go to the Toshiba website and install the utility Intel Chipset then the Intel display driver, then go to DisplayLink.com and install the latest DisplayLink driver for the dynadock. The new software v7.xx DisplayLink driver fixes several issues found in v6.xx drivers.

Verify that the Intel drivers are installed properly in Device Manager.

  • Portege Z930 - display became very low

I have a Portege Z930 ultrabook. A day or two back the display suddenly be permanently turned off. However, if I look closely, I see that the image is there but VERY, VERY weakly. It is as if the light has been turned off (although since the screen is DIRECTED which is not the case).

I was able to get a replacement screen, but that made no difference.

The video card on the motherboard works - at least insofar as I can plug in an external monitor and see everything correctly.

I wonder if a hardware switch inadvertently triggered and miss me the framework. Or I suppose it could be a witch that turns off the screen when the cover is closed, which became faulty...

The Z930 has fonctionnee Windows 8.1 very happily for the last year or two.

I hope that it will be something simple, rather than a motherboard failure...

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

    Andrew

In my opinion, this is material nuisance and has nothing to do with the settings.
In the past we have had several discussions with the same or similar problems and described problem was related to the defective FL inverter.

Have you ever talked with Toshiba service?

  • Portege Z930 - function key does not

Hi, new to this forum. I have a laptop of z930 - 14 d Portege with 64 bit system with Intel Core i5-3437U processor and Windows 7 Professional. I used an external display until recently. When I stopped using it, I noticed that the function of the display brightness key did not work. When I pressed fn and f6 or f7 key, brightness adjustment has come, but I change the brightness. All the other key fn associated operations were very good. I have seen some forums online for this problem and followed their recommendation around the diplay driver upgrade and added value pack from the United Kingdom takes care of Toshiba Web site. Also click on restart flash cards. Nothing seems to have worked and now the fn itself stopped working for example, nothing happens when I press the fn key and I can't perform any operation using the fn key. Please suggest what could be a solution to this problem. Thank you.

Uninstalled then reinstalled display driver and added value pack and the fn key is back but still can not change the brightness. Please notify.

  • Re: Sore eyes using Portege Z930 screen

    Hi all

After appr. 30 min of work with my Portege Z930 I get the pain in my eyes and, later, headache.
I can't just work properly with him.

I tried all known by me options to configure the graphic display, Intel utilities and a Windows, change text size and so on, but to no avail.
Text is a little fuzzy looking.

I'm 12 years old laptop user, changed a lot of it and it's my first laptop with such a poor quality screen.
Or is it a default and I should ask replace the matrix?

Appreciate all the advice of many,
    Sergey

    Hello

The device supports a common 13.3 "(HD) TFT color LCD."
    The max resolution is 1366 x 768.

So I can't find big differences between this screen and others, used in other books

Of course 13.3 is not really a big screen I prefer notebook with a screen size of 15-17.
The 13.3 is too small for me

I don't know... maybe there is something wrong with the LCD display... then maybe you should ask a service provider to verify the part... but this is just my personal opinion...

  • Portege Z930-146: BSOD running Win 7 64 bit - support pointers and advice

    Hello

First post following the latter (academia / business) purchase of a Portege Z930-146 (serial number XC141056H, short PT235E part number).

Configured the pre-installation software 64 - bit W7, local installed, delivery to the primary user (the boss).

User reports 3 BSOD in a few days - I have the mini-decharges and made first order analysis using blue-screen display:

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA (ntoskrnl.exe)
    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (dxgkrnl.exe)
    MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (ntoskrnl.exe)

We really are the guys from UNIX, so it is not familiar territory.

I just updated the BIOS but now have a long (50 +) list of possible drivers also be updated. One at a time to download and install?

I ran the diagnostics memory and disk - without errors or warnings that are reported.

Can someone identify a likely problem, or direct me gently in the direction of the road to official support of Toshiba please or suggest next steps?

    Thank you in advance,

    GLM

Ntoskrnl.exe is a Microsoft kernel boot and the dxgkrnl.exe seems to have something to do with the chart.

I recommend to check if the update of the display driver would improve the performance of the system.
Then visit the Toshiba UE driver page, select the Satellite Z930 PT235E and download the latest display driver Intel.
Z930-146 was equipped with chip Intel HD Graphics 4000, so you need the Intel driver.

You can also try to download the driver directly from the Intel page since they always provide the latest version.

  • Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after upgrade to win 8 - can't turn WiFi switch

After several months waiting for my hour I just began my Portege Z930 - 11G for Windows 8 Pro upgrade.

To a large extent, it went to the plan except that, after execution to display the Assistant Toshiba Upgrade I lost the Fn key and about half of the keys no longer seem to work at all.

The only key I've ever used on a routine basis is the Fn + F8 option to activate the power switch WiFi.

So now, I can not turn on WiFi on the computer.

It must, surely, that there be a way to do it, but I'm not. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now because I have a local cable system in the House, but once I get out on the road I will fight without WiFi.

Before running the wizard upgrade of the Fn key grew up the key appear in the upper part of the screen and I want to surely I had turned on WiFi right here.

The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the possibility to do anything else than to disable five notifications screen for keyboard backlighting, power plan, touch pad and cursor overlay digital overlay.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Andrew

    > So now I can not turn on WiFi on the computer.
First of all, you can enable and disable the WiFi using the function key, but you can also activate the WLan settings of Windows 8
    Key Win + C-> settings-> change PC settings-> wireless

Now, you can use the cursor to wireless devices to enable or disable the WiFi network.

But to get the FN button work you need to install the + Toshiba function key + Utility for win 8 and + Toshiba system driver + to win 8

  • Portege Z930 - BSOD kernel data by page fault

Recently (3 days ago) my girlfriend bought Portege Z930, and she becomes BSOD kernel data in error page, randomly (battery or AC).

Hardware config is: Core i3 Mobile i3-3217U, DDR3 4 GB, HD Graphics 4000, SSD 128 GB
Software: it didn't install new programs, using the trial version of office, Google chrome and windows 7 64 bit which was pre-installed. Anyone have any idea, what could be the cause of bsod? Preinstalled software from Toshiba? Hardware malfunction?

Also because off-topic information autonomy point is up to 5 hours (wifi on, light off, bright screen keyboard: 40%)

On this virtual path, it is not easy to say what may be the problem. In my opinion, you should make data backup and install the OS by using HARD drive recovery option.

After that do what you will have new own preinstalled OS. Test a few days without having to install anything just to see if the error appears again.

Installation of HARD drive recovery operation, you can read on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

  • Portege Z930-10F - broken the screen twice in just 3 months

I am user of laptop for 12 years. On 30 July, I bought my Portege Z930, thinking it was my best decision for many years.
Less than a month later, at the opening of the screen during a flight, it s simply broken the screen, it is impossible to use the most.

After sending to the official service in Spain, told me it was my fault and bad usage, so I had to pay more than 300 ($ 400). I told the customer, explaining about their excessive flexible top and rigid screen support and nothing again.
    It's only my fault.

Last October, 11 again at the opening of my top, this time by using a label of band fixed by myself, in order to avoid the mixing of the screen, it scraped again.

I can't afford it is only my fault, but it's a real design problem, for the lighter ultrabook in the market.

If someone can give me the support for this serious problem, it will be very appreciated

    Hello

It's really amazing story and I think you're the first person who says something like that.
Portege Z930 has long been on the market and I have never heard of these issues.
Please don t get me wrong, but it is really strange that happening already three times.

I saw this machine and all the construction seems pretty stable for me. When you open the screen, I hope that your fingers are placed in the middle of the display panel and not by the side. The pressure on the hinges of the screen coverage must be the same. If you want to display on one side only, I can imagine that something like this can happen, but it shouldn't t.

Portege series is one of the best portable Toshiba s business so I think that the Toshiba and technicians designer take very seriously and I can't imagine that they make this mistake of design.

I still have some old Portege 2000 and it was lighter for laptop at this time with very sensitive display and the hinges of the screen cover, but there is no problem at all.

We can discuss here everyday and I really hope that someone with the Portege even can post experiences, but all of that, that you try to clarify with Toshiba. Be careful when you open and hold the display in the Middle only.

    Good luck.

  • Portege Z930-102 - Igftext.exe caused an error

We have a problem with ultrabook Toshiba Portege Z930-102.
Ultrabook is connected with Toshiba Dynadock U3.0 with secondary DVI monitor like dispay.

Ultrabook comes preinstalled with WIn7 Pro X 64 from Toshiba with the last worm Intel display drivers. 8.15.10.2712. the problem occurs in only one scenario:

1 ultrabook is closed and connected to Dynadock with external DVI monitor, windows is rebooted the system restart and windows connect to the domain we have the message that * caused Igftext.exe* and error one, then the message that the Igftext module has stopped working. We tried the drivers from Displaylink version 6.2 update to the new version 7.144152.0, but nothing has changed.

This Ultrabook is already deployed for VIP and windows of opportunity for quick testing.

We are oppened to any constructive suggestion, thank you in advance.

    Hello

It seems that it's not laptop problem.
Maybe his Intel issue because I found this thread in the forum Intel and it seems that this Intel igfxext.exe process hangs on mobile phones from other manufacturers too.
    http://communities.Intel.com/thread/31920

I found another suggestion: just rename the file igfxext.exe to something like * igfxext.dat* and restart the laptop. It would be interesting to know if that helps.

  • Portege Z930 - 14L + Dynadock U3 crashes after a few minutes of use

Dynadock freeze, after a few minutes using or when I play the movie on youtube in a few seconds.
Laptop works fine now, but the display through dynadock solidifies (freezes and the picture will become.) Its stil game.

    Toshiba Portege Z930 - 14L, Toshiba Dynadock U3
Both aged two weeks. Coercive power disconnect on dynadock and display of the restoration.

I have test the driver cd, driver of site Web of Toshiba and last pilot displaylink official sites.

    Hello

What USB port to connect the Dynadock U3 device did you use?
Have you tested the Dynadock U3 as part of different USB ports?

AFAIK the Z930 Portege - 14L supports a USB 3.0 port on the right side and two USB 2.0 ports on the back.

  • How to partition my new Portege Z930 HARD drive?

    Hi all

I recently bought the Toshiba Portege Z930. I would like to create a new partition (for example D: /) on your hard drive, to store data, music, etc., and let the current C: / drive only for the use of the operating system.

The problem is that I can't follow the normal procedure of partitioning my HD (via the Windows disc or by other software such as EaseUS Manager) because my Portege Z930 already has 4 primary partition created by default! Namely, these are:
    -1 1.46 GB recovery partition
    -1 8 GB hibernation partition
-1 (hidden) 9.96 GB primary partition and finally
    -1 219 GB main partition

As said, there are currently 4 primary partitions, which corresponds to the maximum number of primary partitions, I have. To create a new partition, one of these 4 must be transformed into a logical partition.

I don't have to know if such a thing would be correct, or it would be the cause of the problems of the operating system etc. Also, I don't know which of the 4 above is more appropriate be transformed into a logical partition...
I tried to contact Toshiba but the contact is very difficult with them.

    (1) does anyone have an opinion well informed about this?... happened... ?
    (2) I should I turn one of the 4 primary partitions above in a logic (and if so, where?)
    (3) what is the use of 4 partitions mentioned above?

Thanks in advance for your comments,

    Hello
Windows 7 is pre-installed on this laptop?
Windows 7 needs the first (1.46 GB) partition to store files for the repair of the system.
For example: in case something goes wrong with the Windows 7 system is able to automatically repair and this backup files on that partition. Don t touch!

The primary partition (hidden) 9.96 GB seems to contain the image of Toshiba files.

These image and music files is very important in the case where you want to create the Toshiba recovery disc (or USB) or you want to retrieve the laptop using Toshiba HDD recovery option. Don t touch if you haven't created the recovery disc!

The main score of 219 GB seems to be the system partition. This partition contains the Win 7 OS.
The 8 GB partition is not known to me but you wrote there seems to be a hibernation partition. Maybe its required for hibernation data.

However, first I recommend you to create a recovery disk.
It is an essential environment where you want to set the laptop back to factory settings.
You can change the partitions on the HARD disk.

In General, you can have 3 primary and 1 extended partition or 4 primary partitions.
Extended partitions can contain logical partitions for example: private data.

  • HP omni 200 all-in-one: hp omni 200 display brightness and contrast

I'm trying to adjust my brightness of the screen to the bottom... I already tried the right buttons... All that I can do?  I need

for the low average display brightness to match printable photo of my laboratory.  Also is it possible to change the contrast?

I checked online a little and can't see any other information. on this...

    Thank you...

other than this issue p.s., I was very happy with this system!

    Sharon

I think that you are good to go now on what I believe that it will keep the setting that you created.

I don't know if CCC has an option to save these settings. He can just leave them until you change it again.

Shut down the computer then turn it back on again, then check the settings to make sure.

Note that if you ever update the ATI driver or update the software of the CCC, you may lose these settings.

I'd write them down to safety on a case where you need to refer to them.

If you use a calibrator as a Spyder (for example), you want to leave the CCC at default settings first, calibrate with the screen reader, then adjust CCC after for tweaking final with the brightness and contrast.

To those who don't have not one built in graphics port. If you decide to extend your display Omni with a 2nd monitor, you can use a graphic like this USB card adapter. If you do, an external monitor is better than the built-in screen year only elon on what you buy. Amazon.com: StarTech USB to VGA video output Also, if you have a 2nd monitor already setup and the built in screen dies (All in One are known for this) the 2nd monitor will generally continue to work and you can always access the computer easily. Cannot override the built-in screen.

So, as you already know, do not rely on your photos being stored only on the hard drive of the Omni. Use external backups.

If my advice was useful, please indicate the appropriate post as solved.

    Thank you.

  • How the default display is defined when retrieving data with excel.

Is someone can please tell me how the default display is planned while recovering data using excel add-in I have 7 dimensions, 3 4 dense sparse, whenever I connect to essbase server and retrieve the data is indicated in the top level. Where to set this point of view, we can change it. Sorry if I asked something stupid.

    Thank you.

Not a silly question at all, but there is nothing you can do about it. The Excel Add-In to this view by default, and there is no way to specify otherwise. You could keep a sheet of 'model' and copy these selections to each recovery again, but it would be a little awkward.

You will probably get enough fast to type in your favorite settings by default, unless your plan contains difficult to remember or very long names and aliases. :)
