Why I can't change my Hosts file is located at: Windows\System32\drivers\etc\?

It gives me a warning window telling me that I don't have permissions. even when I AM the only user and the administrator of my computer. Any help?
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium OEM buy one.

Open Notepad high (run as admin), and then use file--> open access to / open the file in Notepad high.

Windows is not (has not) been a sole-user operating system.  Since Windows Vista, being an admin does not mean that you are the administrator. ;-)

  • How to change the host file...

I have ICS on my SK17i. I want to change my/etc/host file. How is it possible.

Given that the host file is a system file

You need to root your phone and then use root Explorer > mount R/W > open with text editor

Can I know what in fact do you?

Why you want to change the host file?

  • Viral, C:\windows\system32\drivers\ect\hosts missing

'C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts' I do not have the file in the folder "etc. and I called my internet support and they said its been hijacked. but when I run a spyware-adware it finds nothing. can someone help me with my problem please? I can't to certain sites like google. It says "the connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." neither can not find the server? can you please help someone

'C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts' is a file used by the windows box as similar to a Linux box to define who is a localhost... you wouldn't need a file/etc/hosts if you are on a domain that dhcp will take care of... but however windows is not effective in the treatment in the file/etc/hosts that linux security and therefore translates into browser hijacking...

to get the file/etc/hosts, you have 2 options...

    option 1:

    * Download HostsXpert funkytoad.com and uncompress (extract) to your
    desktop computer:
    http://www.Funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip
    * Open HostsXpert from your desktop.
When the following message appears, click on the OK"" button.
    o confirm

HOSTS file does not exist, press OK to create the file HOSTS, cancel
    quit smoking.

    [OK] [Cancel]
    * Close HostsXpert.

option 2:-If you like to get your hands dirty...

all you need is a regular text with that inside file:
    127.0.0.1 localhost

Save as host (no file extension please :)))
and if you really want to be 100% sure that nobody's going to mess with it, change the permissions for everyone: reading/performance.

That's right, a whole new file host :)

to change the entries in the hosts file, you can use the command as i.e. elevated command prompt

    Linux its "sudo vi/etc/hosts.

for windows, you can use the command "copycon" or use the script of the suite

    type hosts. find "127.0.0.1".
If errorlevel 1 (echo 172.29.1.43 > hosts) other output

Save this *.bat file and changing the ip address of which input to... well, this should help...

records the path to the source (photos, videos, music) files...
If you re-open the file .mswmm to re - edit source files...
