  It depends on what is the file. If it were a .txt, you would select Notepad or Word.

  I get the same message for lots of PDF documents, I have Acrobat Reader DC and some documents were created by me using this software.  I store it on our server and then I can not re - open them.  This also applies if I receive an email with a PDF attachment.

  Is the PDF file WHERE YOU PUT it? (Did you choose where to put it?)

  If it's gone, you have a serious problem, but it is not due to lack of player if the file has disappeared.

  You try to open a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) file with the wrong program. Install the latest version of Adobe Reader fromhttp://www.adobe.com/ and this should solve your problem.
