Why my DNG files appear as icons rather thumbnails in file manager?

I chose generate the preview JPEG size when converting to my DNG RAWs.

However, when I was browsing the file after the conversion, why the DNGS still appear as icons DNG?

I guess they should look like the JPG pictures.

Gnerating saw guarantees that a certain software will use. You 'File manager', whatever it is, does not seem to be used.

If you're running Windows Vista, you must install a DNG Codec.

  • Why do my files appear in all directories

Original title: Windows 7 backup file

I know I'm missing something, so I need some help, please. I have Windows 7 with Office 2007. When I open my directories there are 4: Documents, music, photos and videos. I tried to open a file in the Documents and I have seen the same document in the other directories and also listed under my Computer OS (C). Why do my files appear in all directories? Please advise me.

Directories such as the 'Documents', 'Music', 'Images' and 'Vidéo' are really (in the way which view you them from the menu of the Start button or office) "links" to the actual locations.

    • 'Documents' folder is in one place:
      %UserProfile%\Documents
    • Your "Music" folder is in one place:
      %UserProfile%\Music
    • Your "Pictures" folder is in one place:
      %UserProfile%\Pictures
    • Your 'Vidéo' folder is in one place:
      %UserProfile%\Videos

'%UserProfile%' is an environment variable which translates by (your computer translated for you when typed in / used) the path for the connected on the user profile directory.  By default, this would be C:\USERS\USERNAME.

Now - there are "Public" places in each of these users on the same computer could share things between them.  These places is...

    • %PUBLIC%\Documents
    • %PUBLIC%\Music
    • %PUBLIC%\Pictures
    • %PUBLIC%\Videos

The mention "PUBLIC %" is an environment variable which translates by (your computer translated for you when typed in / used) the path to the directory of the user PUBLIC profile.  By default, this would be C:\USERS\PUBLIC.

And if that's not enough for you - there is a way to be able to view each of these folders (your Documents and public acts, your music and music Public, etc.) in one accessible place - by using the feature of "libraries".

Even when viewed using libraries - however - the physical location is always singular.  If you put something in 'Documents', it is (by default) will '% USERPROFILE%\Documents' (C:\USERS\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\) and not the case elsewhere.  You should be able to see from the icon from your desktop to the 'Documents' or 'Documents' library, but they are just pointers/links/fancy shortcuts to the ACTUAL physical location on disk represented by '% USERPROFILE%\Documents' (C:\USERS\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\).

    Make sense?

Think more if it is not.  Here's the easy way:

Your stuff is on this drive here:

    • %UserProfile%\Documents (default: C:\USERS\YourUsername\Documents)
    • %UserProfile%\Music (default: C:\USERS\YourUsername\Music)
    • %UserProfile%\Pictures (default: C:\USERS\YourUsername\Pictures)
    • %UserProfile%\Videos (default: C:\USERS\YourUsername\Videos)

You can just get in these physical locations via different paths.  They all end up in the same end-location real.  You do not have many copies of the files.  (You have not more than one copy of this large video file that you created, UNLESS you make a copy.  "It is SIMPLY stored in %USERPROFILE%\Videos (C:\USERS\YourUsername\Videos).)

  • DNG files appear darker after importing in Lightroom

I just started with the demo version of Lightroom, having always managed so far with Photoshop and Bridge. There are a lot of things about Lightroom that I like, however, I am a little confused on why DNG files especially who were already resolved using the ACR in Photoshop are change appearance after having been imported into Lightroom, if I select an image, and in general, they become quite a bit more dark. With thousands of images to process I really want to be in a situation where they all need adjustment once again, so I was wondering if anyone knows why this is happening?

In both cases my chosen, work space is Adobe RGB and Lightroom do these changes if yes or no I option lets you apply adjustments to your car in development. Another folder that contains only files Tif and Jpeg derivatives does not seem to be affected in the same way.

According to your description, it seems that the JPEG preview embedded in JPEG format is based on the image before the ACR changes *. Fortunately, it is quite easily solved in Lr, less (actually less obvious) in Camera Raw.

In the grid view, select all images, then select Update DNG previews and metadata in the metadata. Be warned that it will probably take some time that Lr has to recreate the DNG files in the background.

    * in general, this occurs when you convert the raw unedited files originals to DNG using the DNG Converter.

  • Why my RAW file is removed from the grid of the library after the Conversion to DNG?

Hi I'm new to LR and need to understand if this is a standard behavior.

My goal was simply to convert a native file RAW to DNG and have two files in the catalog and visible in the same library.

I imported a native heap of RAW + JPEG files in my catalog (as separate files). I did it from the inside of LR.

Then I selected and converted a RAW file to DNG (using library, convert to DNG, with "Delete originals after successful conversion" DESELECTED)

Against all odds, the RAW file (.) ORF in this case) is removed from the grid view library. A new DNG file appears in the view library, as expected.

I expect that the. File RAW ORF would remain and the new DNG would be added, that is, I see two files.

    BTW I have Off filters.

In alarm, I looked at the folder with the Explorer (inside the LR), and (to my relief), the folder contains the RAW format. ORF, JPEG as well as the new DNG format

Suspecting that the RAW file has been removed from my catalog - I tried to import the RAW format. ORF again.

Import using - I can view the RAW file, but it is grayed out. And give me the message "seems to be a duplicate of another picture already in the catalog.

Since I DESELECTED 'Delete originals after successful conversion', I expect to stay visible in the library.

Seems I did something wrong or I'm a bad interpretation of the process. Is this a normal behavior?

Also, how to get back the RAW file in library view now that LR tells me that it is already in the catalog?

    Lightroom works as expected.

I do not believe there is no option to keep the original gross as the dng in the same catalog. Maybe change the name of one of them is an option to consider.

Explain what you are trying to reach?

  • My bridge update 5.2.0.4 destroyed previews of all DNG files. They only appear on the side and small and I can't open Camera Raw in Bridge. Someone else has the same problem?

    I've updated Bridge yesterday. CS6 5.2.0.4. Mac OS 10.9.5

All previews (DNG files) to the bridge now appear on the side and only small miniature size.

Also Camera Raw has been disabled.

I tried cache purge for folders as all purge the cache.

I also spent over an hour on the phone with technical support that being mainly involved switched between departments and try to understand someone on the phone.

    Can anyone help?

I'm going to guess at the root of your problem is "also Camera Raw has been disabled."

Can you check what version of Camera Raw, or not at all? Here is how to validate: keeping up to date of Photoshop

  • Why are my huge DNG files?

My DNG files vary from approximately 46 Mb 66 Mb. I noticed other people have much smaller files. No idea why? Can I reduce the size of file DNG?

I don't convert to DNG format very often. Most of the time, I prefer to work with the original raw files. If my comments may not be 100% reliable. The size of the DNG files can vary depending on the options you choose. For example, including the quick loading data seems to slightly increase the size of the file. And, you embed the original raw file? Which can affect the size of the file as well. So, how do you set up your options?

  • Lightroom edit my .dng files. Why?

    Hello!

First, excuse my bad English, I'll do better than I can.

I just noticed that my backup software backup images edited in Lightroom. Indeed, the files has been changed: md5sum changed. However, If I open this .dng file outside of Lightroom, I can see thatthe image itself is always the same, the changes made in lightroom is not visible. Tit's normalLightroom is a not destructive editing tool. But what is the change in the file? It's a big problem for me, because my backup software consider that this file has changed, that's why he back it up. I thought that that only the catalogue is changed.

    Can someone help me understand?

    Thank you!

Lightroom writes metadata (data image, such as stars, keywords and so on) in the DNG files to your application or any change when you have autowrite enabled in preferences.

  • Why can't I have my favorites appear as icons in my bookmarks bar? (Mac OX)

I had my favorites only appear as icons in my toolbar. This allowed many more bookmarks to be visible. Only the full name will appear, so I have to click on the + to get invisible bookmarks is displayed. That's happened?

There are extensions that only display the icons in the bookmarks toolbar.

You can use one of them if my above posted solution (which can be made without extensions) is too complicated.

  • Why CS4 will not open DNG files converted from raw Olympus E - M1 files?

For several years, I was able to use the DNG Converter to convert. My E - M1 Olympus ORF raw files and then open them for treatment in CS4. Suddenly CS4 quit recognizing these DNG files saying "Photoshop could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

I have not changed preferences. I use E - M1 v3.0, DNG Converter v8.3.0.141 on a Mac. I deleted the converter DNG several times, even reinstalled an earlier version, but nothing does not change.

However, CS4 will open the converted DNG files from Pentax raw. PEF files of my K-5. Weird. This is the Olympus raw DNG conversions that will not open.

I can view the DNG files converted into question in the preview of the Mac just fine, but CS4. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Don't forget the compatibility of the DNG Converter is defined to provide support for your version of ACR:

  • Why LIGHTROOM changes the DNG files on it s own?

I noticed this quite a while and it s annoying as hell when you have an automated backup process.

LR regularly DNG files... and LR changing again and again DNG files.

This means that files that are modified yesterday are perhaps changed again today.

I've noticed this with all versions of LR4.x and also LR5.

so I just create a catalog from TEST to test.

I Don t change anything on this catalogue of test images.

all I do is open the catalog and browse the files and allow the LR open and idle for some time.

and guess what... my DNG (and only the DNG files) files are constantly changed for no apparent reason.

to check what has changed in the DNG files I use exiftool and this is the result:

    new file:

    InstanceID xmp.iid:c0474916-c24c-2448-b42c-522076f5a25d

    old file:

    InstanceID xmp.iid:2e88ce2a-2e5a-b34d-a85b-2af2ab3494da

I also did a comparison hexagonal just now on these modified files:

    http://i.imgur.com/FAaZz.jpg

    Another example:

    http://i.imgur.com/vzMbS.jpg

I have the function "automatically write changes to the XMP" lit.

but when I Don t change anything... There is nothing to write in the files... right?

Once again to do this 100% clear...

DNG files are in the LR catalog for months or years (not in the test catalog but my catalog of actual work).

DNG files are not affected by me (no changes are made in the LR modules, no new keywords or metadata changes etc.).

only what I posted above is changed in DNG files.

Does any other file formats (JPG, PSD, TIFF) in my catalog.

I don't use DNG files with any software then LR. I have not the same seen in another program.

PS: of course, I wrote about it in adobe... but as usual, nothing happens.

even with regard to my graphic problems... I send a sample file of adobe... they write in return that the mistake could be reproduced... and 5 point later the error is always in LR.

I do not use the DNG file format, but tried a test DNG file and could not resume this problem on my 64 bit Windows 7 using LR4.4.1 System. I checked the InstanceID by using EXIFToolGUI and he only changed when you do a CTRL + S save metadata in the file. Simply navigate the image in the library module or develop as well as other images in the same folder has NOT caused the InstanceID to change. I also did a search on 'DNG write metadata' in the Photoshop family forum and only found this post regarding the behavior of CTRL + S with DNG files:

    http://feedback.Photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/only_write_metadata_if_out_of_date

If what you say is true, I believe there are many posts complaining about the issue. I have no doubt this problem, but logically it should happen only if somehow a CTRL + S or ' save metadata to File command is get called.

Maybe send a file and we can test it on our systems. Please provide some details on the procedures of LR you use that causes the InstanceID to change with this file. Do not assume that we understand what you are doing!

  • Why only edit DNG files?

Comments have been made by some that they "only edit DNG files" and never touch the original raw images.  My question is, what is the big advantage in adopting this type of workflow?

You do not have a sidecar XMP for each raw file.

  • . DNG files not showing thumbnails in the Mac Finder

    Hello.

I'm trying to convert to Lightroom for my photos on my Mac and when I downloaded the example for tutorials .dng files, I noticed that they do not appear in my files to the Mac Finder thumbnails. Clearly it is somewhat a disadvantage when there are file photos.

.Dng files I downloaded all appear identical graphic icons that resemble an opening of the camera.

Is it possible to get these files will appear as thumbnails on my Mac please?

    I'm running OS X on a MacBook Pro 10.9.4.

AHA, this is what is happening. I downloaded the practice files. They are the new format dng compressed and scaled-down (like smart Lightroom previews) that Adobe just introduced with LR 5. Raw Apple libraries like also all non-Adobe software can not read those, unfortunately, so you will not be able to preview.

  • As mono made DNG files

I'm having problems with LR5.2RC made a considerable number of my monochrome .dng files. There seems to be no logic to it, and the files appear in color in the Finder. I use an iMac with Mountain Lion. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

    SOLUTION FOUND

I just found out that if, during LR presets on the left panel, I clcik 'Zéro', I get my picture back color. By clicking on 'Color' on the Panel right develop did not work.

I hope the problem is solved, but why and how it happened is beyond me. Thank you for all your help.
