• Layers panel do not scroll

  The layer icon is not updated by an adjustment on another layer - it always shows the current state of this layer, and has always, as far as I know.

  Perhaps because there is no links in your document? The images may have been inserted with paste, and leaving no trace with the original files. There is no way to repair that.

  If you're pretty sure there must be links, try saving the file as INX (CS3 and more) or IDML (CS4 (and probably newer)), then the re - open this file. He can fix the stuff that broke somewhere.

  When you select an object it must be a square of light color on the right edge of the layer name. Drag on the new layer. Or you can cut and paste in place on the new layer (to paste remembers layers off).
