Why my recycle bin takes forever to empty?

I can't empty my trash properly. Please help me!

It has 418 MB of files that it contains and I tried to empty in safemode, but that did not work. I think that the loaded file is a Quicktime 3GPP file, but when I tried to delete on its own, it begins deleting yet you deleted 0MB and speed and time has left both say calculation. I can't even restore the file to remove.

Try using one of the following free products to remove the files.  Unlocker to:http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

If this does not work, try the following compliments of Andy Song (it works almost certainly - you can even try everything first because it is simple and relatively fast):

1. open the windows Explorer, click theTools menu-> folder Options (NOTE: you must be logged in as an administrator to perform this entire procedure.)

2 click 'view tab

(A) dotdisplay the hidden files and folders.

(B) clearthat Hide protected operating system files.

3. search for the path to theC:\ drive or one that has Vista installed on it.

4. right click on the $RECYCLE. BIN folder, and then clickRemove.

5 Vista will recreate then automatically a new$RECYCLE. BIN file, but the old and its content should be gone.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

    Hi Zvika,

If running Chkdsk (according to the post of Ramesh Kumar) does not help, you can determine whether this problem is caused by third-party shell extensions. You can use ShellExView from Nirsoft to work.

  • Recycle bin icon disappears after emptying the Recycle Bin.

When I emptied the trash, the trash disappears from my office. The 'Recycle Bin' words are still displayed on the desktop, and when I put the cursor on the location where the icon is supposed to be, the area still "hilights" as if the tray was still there.

I do not use a custom icon. I use the default icon of bin recycle.

    I use Windows 7 Professional.

When I restart the computer the trash comes back. I may be able to empty the trash several times before disappearing again, but eventually (usually within the first 5 times empty the trash), it disappears again.

I realize that this isn't a huge problem, but it's more than a little embarrassing. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

  • lack to locate some files in the Recycle Bin

I recently looked in the trash yesterday to restore some picture files and wound up in the trash. Once I've added a few new files I wanted to delete later in the trash and reopened, the image files, I tried to restore from before disappeared? What should I do to find these exact files?

    Hi Caleb,

When you delete any of these files or folders from your hard drive, Windows puts in the Recycle Bin and the Recycle Bin icon goes from empty to full.  Folders and deleted files remain there until you select Empty trash or delete these files in the breast.

There is a limit on the trash that you can check / together by right clicking on the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop and select Properties. If fills up, Windows automatically cleans the files to make enough space for the files and folders more recently deleted.

If the above is the case, you will not be able to restore your photos. You will need to seek third-party freeware to restore deleted files.

    I hope this helps.

  • Some accounts have the Recycle Bin instead of the trash icon. Cannot run 'Empty trash' on the record, only on an icon to the trash.

I have four accounts open TB: mine, woman, club and spam. Only mine and spam account display the Recycle Bin icon. The other two accounts have a folder named "Trash". Deleted files go in the Trash files, is similarly in the trash icon files. However, there is a single action, I can perform on files from the Recycle Bin. When right clicking on folders, "empty trash" is not available as an option. The function is available only on folders with the Recycle Bin icon.
Is there a way to get the appropriate folder to the trash with function 'empty trash' in all accounts?

OK - I messed around with the settings more and came across a solution.
1 right-click on the account name in the left pane, and then select settings.
    2. Select Server settings
    3. in the central block under deletion actions, select Advanced
    4. uncheck the "show only subscribed folders", and then click OK
    5. click OK in the parameters, and then collapse the account name in the left pane so not subfolders appear.
6 expand the name of the account. This is - the trash is now a garbage can with the function of "empty trash".
    7. If desired, return to the advanced settings and re - select "show only subscribed folders" and click OK

Don't ask me why this works. It's a total coincidence that I even found it.

  • XP Recycle bin displays deleted info file except to remove Date/time. Why and how?

Study of forensic medicine.  Multiple user accounts with recycling bins completely filled with file deletion history-except on 1 account.  Basket of specific account reflects the deleted data files (Create, Mod, access, path, etc.) EXCEPT deletion of all files/times dates are blacked out.   How or why this would happen?   Wrap and manual INFO2 analysis reflects the missing data of DateTime.
