  I found the solution to my problem. Keys mouse was working, but I didn't know it because my mouse speed setting is set to minimum. Although it seemed that nothing was happening when I was pressing the keys on the numeric keypad, the mouse began in fact to move, but only very slowly.

  I have a 2 models of macbook pro 2010. When I first got them I gave each a password firmware, but for some strange reason, one of them the password does not work! So I need to reset it.   If your laptop is preinstalled with Toshiba recovery image I don't see a reason why the FN keys should not work.

  Is there something more, that you should tell us about preinstalled operating system?
