Hello

1. why you try to run the system restore on Windows XP computer?

2. what happens when you try to create a restore point? You receive an error message/code?

To resolve this problem, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented. If method 1 does not resolve your problem, go to the next method.

Method 1:

Try the steps listed in the article below and check.

You cannot create a restore with a HighPoint driver installed
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=322246&SD=RMVP

Method 2:
Temporarily disable the security software installed on the computer and check if the problem persists.
Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 3:
Please check if you are facing the same question when working in safe mode.

Step 1

See the article below for the procedure safe mode in Windows XP
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315222

The restore of the system in safe mode and check.

Step 2

System restore

See if you can find a suitable restore point.

  • System Restore doesn't have restore points. What should I do?

    Original title: System Restore problem

Why my "System Restore" gets none of the restore points? I've restored this computer before. Any suggestions as to why would be very appreciated. Thanks Jack

    Hello

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    2. did you disk cleanup?

    3. why you try to run the system restore?

    4. do you use your computer in dual-boot configuration?

This type of problem usually occurs due to threats of viruses or due to cleaning of the computer disk. I suggest you to scan for viruses and to check if it helps.

    Microsoft safety scanner: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. During these 10 days, it will remove all the files infected by the virus and records. I suggest you create a backup of your data, and then install Microsoft Safety Scanner.

Once you are done with the antivirus scan, try the steps in the following Microsoft article and check if it helps.

Warning: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • system restore only works in safe mode?

Original title: why my system restore won't work except in safe mode?

I wonder why the system restore doesn't work on my system more except in Mode without failure. I tried to disable my anti-virus and run a program on my HP Pavilion system that corrects all files that may be lost or got corrupted. I made sure the system restore is still in Window\System | 32, I disabled updates, restarted the system, tried the restore without success then turned on automatic updates. I went to every possible useful article (not!) I can find on the web or Microsoft, and nobody seems to know what to do.  Yes, I can do a Safe Mode system restore, but I want it works on my system itself.  Any help out there?  Thanks for your time. So :)

Without knowing what anti-virus product and/or security you are running on your computer, it is virtually impossible to answer your question.

On the off-chance that you use Norton - Norton is known to cause problems with the system restore and this problem is addressed in the Symantec Support here page:

  • How can I change my settings 'System Restore'?

Why my system restore saves only the daily restore point?  Whenever I look to do a system restore all that I have is that for the day of gooseberry.   I did not create my system so I don't know how to change this, if I get more than 1 restore point.   I can't restore to last week, because it does not show the week last, or any other day besides.
Can you help me change that?
I am running Vista Home Premium.  I have a Go in the unused memory.

    Hi hadit

Thanks for posting on Microsoft Answers.

If I can add what Malkeleah and Charles Guard have already suggested.

When you go to choose a screen point of restoration, all the way down, there is a checkbox "Points of restoration show more than 5 days.  This box is checked?  If this isn't the case, please check it out.  Do you see more older restore points?

If you posted this information already and I forgot, I apologize, but I do not see where you mentioned that and I don't remember seeing someone recommend you check this box.

Have you looked at the info/links Malkeleah? There is some great info there on system restore.

  • System Restore stuck to "finalize file restore".

I tried the system restore point and it worked for about 6 hours now... My PC has 232 space disk and only 9 GB of free space. So I've excepted to take longer than usual, but I feel that it is too long.

I was wondering from your experience is it better to keep waiting or should I stop the restore point?

Also, in order to stop the restore point is it better to simply close the PC or there at - it a command line, I can use?

    Additional information:

    Windows Vista family 32xbits Premium

PC has been infected with malicious software (still may be some although I doubt) keyboard and mouse do not work in windows vista restore point then is used from the Vista installation CD.

Why the mouse and the keyboard doesn't work don't not is most likely because I was getting rid of the infection, a driver called libusb0.sys has been deleted.

Tried to: use System Recovery Options menu

    • Select command prompt
    • In the command window type in Notepad , press enter.
    • Notepad opens. Under the file menu, select Open.
    • Select 'Computer' and find the letter of your flash drive and close Notepad.
    • In the command window, type e:\frst.exe , and then press enter
Note: Replace the e letter with the letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start running.
    • When the tool opens, click Yes to the warning.

Type the following in the edit box after "search:

    libusb0.sys

Click on the button Search and post the log (Search.txt) is your answer.
Can be found in the same directory that FSRT.exe has been executed of Search.txt.

The search.txt came out with no information about the pilot.

I then decided to use a restore point to see if I get the driver in place and now I'm here... It has been going for six hours and counting.

  • My computer has recently been very slow. I tried to do a system restore, but any date "BOLD", I select, it won't restore. I have done in the past & have this problem.

I've set up earlier a manual restore date when I did a cleanup, but I don't know how to get back to that either.

XP system restore should only be used in certain circumstances. Why do you think it's necessary?

What do you mean by "I did some clean-up?

There are two main explanations for the failure of the restoration of the system. The first is the presence of malware. The second is a program such as Norton or ZoneAlarm that interferes with the process:

  • Why Software Distribution 3.0 appears on my Microsoft (restore point) system restore almost every day?

original title: software distribution service 3.0

Why Software Distribution 3.0 appears on my Microsoft (restore point) system restore almost every day?  What is it?

The Software Distribution Service 3.0 Restore Point is created when new Microsoft updates are downloaded and installed.

Depending on the configuration of your system, the updates can be downloaded and installed automatically as we never see what is happening.

For example (this is what I usually see), if you use Microsoft Security Essentials and an update of MSE comes out every day, you can't "see" anything on your system to tell you about this, but when the ESM update is installed, a new called Restore Point "Software Distribution Service 3.0" will be created. "

If MSE gets several updates per day, you will see a new PR of 3.0 SDS created for each of them, so it would be possible to have several SDS 3.0 Restore Points per day.  Alternatively, you can have one for MSE and another for some other day.  Some days you won't see any SDS 3.0 created restore points.

Of course, there are other reasons, you might see a new SDS 3.0 Restore Point and you might be curious to know what is all just never one see you.

Among the technical support engineers Microsoft will surely be able to tell how to look at each new SDS 3.0 Restore Point you have and tell you how to determine exactly what was in this update of the Software Distribution (if you're curious).

The reason in question do not contain the required information may be because there is no incentive to enter the required information when you create a new question.

The odds on this planet someone reading "How to ask a question" before asking a question are extremely unlikely, therefore (if the forums wanted more useful), the forums Microsoft Answers would invite for information, when a new question is asked.

Even the discussion in the article "How to ask a question" is quite ridiculous that it does not describe the same basic information that should be in a new topic.

This gross oversight in the way the new positions are created in these forums in frustration results, guess, lost time and wasted cycles then message that this information is being collected.
