Why Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1593.0 updated not when you use 'find updates link.

Windows Defender will not update the definitions by using the "Check for update" link in the drop-down list next to the (?).  However, if the following URL is used it will update the definitions!  http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=70631

You cannot uninstall Defender - it is a part of the operating system.

To install MSE should properly to completely shut down Defender, because it contains an improved version of it. It is therefore likely that something has blocked the operation of MSE, or at least of its Setup program.

My best guess is that you need to uninstall MSE and then run the removal tools for ANY other antivirus you have EVER had installed on this computer, and then reinstall MSE again. Norton and McAfee are particularly bad for this kind of problem. I also suggest uninstalling MBAM while MSE is being installed - just in case there is a conflict.

When you use find on the page (ctrl + F on Windows) it is a message indicating the total number of matches. What does the first number?
I'm more interested in the case when this number is smaller than the total.

    Hello

I think you mean the text stating "x of there matches", to the right of the box where you entered the search term.

The first number ("x" in my example above) indicates the current entry highlighted on the page that matches the search phrase. If you use the upper and down arrows to navigate through the instances of this term on the page, you will see this number go up and down.

  • Windows 7 powering off randomly, but not when you use it.

    Hey all,.

Having a strange problem where my computer behaves quite normally when I use it, but when I stop, it will often (maybe half the time), stop at random. I don't know how long it takes - in one case, that he died in about 20 minutes, but again, he ran for more than 8 hours. This is a new installation on a new hard drive, but the rest of the machine has been about and works well for several years.

A few things I've tried - (plan) event viewer shows no consistent event prior to the shutoff valve. They are all still "Information" rather than "errors" or "warnings". After I turn it on again, I have a 'mistake' telling me that the previous stop valve was not planned, so I know that the machine does not turn off. In some cases, I have entries in the newspapers of the applications that have been dated later system then saves, but that doesn't tell me much.

I have an ASUS motherboard so I was check the temperature of the processor, they never seem to cross as 50 C (and besides, when I use the machine never turns so overheating does not seem likely). I have installed the hard disk Sentinel to control the new player, but the health of disks are all 100% (I have an old drive to 40%, but there is no file system on that). I am running MSI Afterburner to check the graphics card, but the fan seems to run and off properly so I don't think that.

This dual computer starts in Linux, and the problem has not yet arrived there. Although, I do not often use this partition, so I can't guarantee it is independent of the operating system.  I reinstalled the RAM once and done little compressed air works for the computer is clean enough. Since the system is pretty cool, I did all the updates, but all those recommended are made, I have only those in option on the left.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can follow this problem? What kind of logs could be able to use or what kind of tests might be appropriate?

  • How can I change the file version for PDF files scanned 1.4 when you use the Acrobat XI "PDF from Scanner' feature? By default, it is always saved as 1.5.

Without doubt, the problem of trying to mix new software (well, not old, not sure why you migrate to Acrobat X when it's already obsolete), with very old software indeed. PDF 1.6 was published 11 years ago. I realize, this may not help, but it may explain why there isn't an option for you.

  • Firefox redirecting not when you use the script Window.Print

Have a simple java script on a Web page to display the print dialog box before the redirection to another page.

    < a onclick = "javascript:window.print()" href ="Screen.php" > print, and continue < /a > "

When the print dialog box will appear if you print it does not redirect but remains on the page. If you cancel printing, it will go ahead and redirect to where it is supposed to go. Worked fine before the last update I was wondering if there was a work around for this or if anyone was aware of this.

The inconsistency is confusing. If you change your onclick to the following code, you can see a difference of synchronization in the appearance of the confirm dialog box which may be related to the problem. Maybe printing went from synchronous to asynchronous and now the navigation is attempted at a time when it is not allowed?

    onclick="window.print(); if(!confirm('Finished printing?')) return false;"

  • If I have my laptop, is why Windows Defender turned off because of group policy?... What is group policy?

At the heart of the problem is this business of permissions.  Why solo owners of laptops not affiliated with companies or other computers must be prey to group policy and permissions at every turn.  I tried to turn off the UAC and I couldn't find even a file for group policy, and again I am forbidden to use Windows Defender because of this error message.  Only recently have I won control of most of my files and folders by disabling UAC and passing by claiming ownership of my own software and files.  I guess I really two questions: (1) how can I get rid of this feature to administer unnecessary and, as in the good old days, before Vista came, just use my computer without messages such as "you don't have permission to use this...» "and (2) my second question which dovetailed in the the first is" why the hell did I this stupid message from group policy?  There is no groups affiliated with my Compaq Presario, and in fact, it is not a group on my system folder in the first Subscriber.  I'm not very impressed with Vista or Windows Defender.  I could even ignore these problems, but there is a principle here.  I've read enough Articles to understand that I'm not the only person facing this nonsense!

You cannot change how permissions work under Vista.  The administrator has certain rights and access; However, even for administrators, several parts of the system do not have access (because they are points of junction to towards the rear compatabiility and must not be changed or your programs do not work or because they are system files, you do not make changes.)  Despite this, some of these areas can still be accessed at your own risk - you may do something that can repair only a clean install), I provided the following information about permissions and ownership (which can help you navigate the system correctly and without causing any damage).

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Regarding Windows Defender the most likely reason it is disabled because you have installed an AV or security suite program that does so automatically during its installation (and it was probably necessary for the new software works correctly without causing any problem).  What AV or Security Suite program do you use?

Regarding group policy, if you wanted to access it go to start / search box and type gpedit.msc and enter and then double-click on the program that appears in the search results.  These AV programs and security can use Group Policy to disable Windows Defender (I don't know how they do it), but it may be there somewhere).  Because re-activate NOT Windows Defender while the other this software is still installed on your system that could cause some conflixts, freezes, crrashes, corrupt and data files and all kinds other problems - it has been disabled for some reason.

If you want to use Windows Defender, then choose a program or AV security suite which does not disable the Defender during the installation.

  • Windows defender won't turn on or update.

I have a toshiba satellite laptop computer running windows 7 Home premium. I am running Microsoft Security Essentials on my computer. It scans and says I need to download windows defender in offline mode to remove the virus completely. I have the Defender on my system, but it does not start. It is said that the version of defender is obsolete, but it wont let me update. I remove MSE, is there a fix?

MSE automatically stop Windows Defender because he has the same properties. If you have a virus and it does not remove MSE, WD will not.

Download the free versions of these tools. First check the updates and then run a full scan with each. It will take a while.

Whether Windows Defender is blocked from running by them. McAfee, AVG and many others to do this.

  • When you use the Windows XP Mode integration, it fails; maintains a new attempt and finally I have to cancel

When you use the Windows XP Mode integration, it fails; continues to try again and finally I cancel it. The same newspaper for Virtual PC on the host computer has the following error message: Windows XP Mode integration error 'failed to connect in place inside the "Windows XP Mode" VM on channel 0 on the... named pipe endpoint XP, TCP port 3389 with the 0x8007274c error mode. This error occurs every time, but I don't know why he is successful a few times and sometimes fails. This question was in another post and mentioned the removal and resettlement components of integration, which I've tried, but it did not help. I also checked that I have the latest version of the integration components (v. 14.1.7600.16403). I have a separate instance of Virtual PC that I brought over my old XP machine and it was never a problem with integration. The problem with the image in XP Mode occurs also, regardless of whether or not the other Virtual PC image runs. Only the image of the XP Mode has this problem. I suspect it's perhaps a conflict of TCP port in the named pipe, but if so, I don't know how to solve. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to offer advice.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to reinstall the integration features in the past, but the problem has come back at a later date. A few days after I posted this request for assistance, I needed to log out of Windows 7, so I hibernated the XP Mode image. Then, I opened a session in Windows 7 and thought I'd give it a try once again, and it worked this time! I did nothing special. So hopefully that will happen in the future, just as it went and on the past few months. Enjoyed your attempt to offer advice, however!

Why Oracle ManagedDataAccess (4.121.1.0) throws a System.FormatException "first chance" exception to the debugger when you use OracleCommand.BindByName (on some machines, but not others)?

Thanks a lot to qualify again for me Alex.  I'll try upgrading to the latest version of the provider.

The difference in behavior between the two hosts was found to be reduced to differences in configuration VS.

Checking 'Just my code' prevents the first chance thrown in the debugger exception. As in fact, the exception is handled in the provider, it is enough for me.
