  I have problems to connect to my home network. Wifi phones turns well, gets an IP address and looks perfect. However, grey wifi strength meter and phone outside and there is no connectivity to the internet on the phone. The wireless network is protected from WPA.

  I have a cliq which works very well on my network.

  I tried to turn off and turn off airplane mode, neither of which make a difference.

  Auto IPCONFIG can find 169. addresses. My IP BigPond do not answer to 169. I force the IP to get internet now. BigPond advise me to get in touch with Microsoft on 132058 and I can only do this Mon - Fri 9.00 - 5.00 which is extremely difficult so that an employee who works 12 hours. After hours of contact would be much more preferable. How can I have my computer 'automatically' identify my IP without forcing the numbers. When I force the IP on the other computers on the home WIFI network they can not access the internet due to a "conflict with an IP address. They should automatically be able to identify and define the same IP address as the primary computer without problem. How can I fix?

  It seems much more likely that the fault is in your TG782T on Windows.

  Either way, a 'normal' router will work with many more than 4 Ethernet ports (though most only have a maximum of 4 physical Ethernet Sockets) and more than 5 wireless connections.  It is therefore likely that your ISP has "customized" your device in a way that limits the number of connections - and it is probably this "customization" that gives you your current problems.  It will be a little difficult to do this via an Internet forum (rather than sitting in front of your computer), but it should be possible.

  Please specify the following sentence: "disconnect this computer and try a new computer is always the same problem as the gateway must always have this setting, this computer in IP."  What is "this setting of intellectual property?

  In the area of local connections > Internet protocols (TCP/IP), how is the 'work' computer configured?  Normally, it would set on "Obtain an IP address automatically."  What was the setting of 'alternative' that your ISP you are trying?

  The first thing to do is to get information on your work computer.  Follow these steps:

  1. click on start, and then type the three letters cmd in the run box, and then click OK.
  2. Enter the following command and press ENTER:
  ipconfig/all > "% UserProfile%\Desktop\ip.txt" {Enter}
  3. open the IP.txt file to your desktop
  4. copy and paste the text into your response.

  One of the lines in IP.txt will be something like the following:

  This number is the IP address of your router.  Open a web browser (Firefox or Internet Explorer) and enter the IP address of your default gateway in the address box.

  At this point, it is possible that it will ask you a user name and password.  If you did not one, use admin as username and leave the password empty box.  If this does not work, there is a way around this, but it involves several phone calls from your ISP.

  After login, you should see a page with a menu on the left (see p. 26 of the pdf above thomsonbroadbandpartner).  Click on the entry for "Home Network."  Unfortunately, the manual does not show the screen that appears when you enter this part of the configuration utility.  What you are looking for are the settings for the DHCP server on the router, which assigns IP addresses to computers connected to the router (no matter if they are connected by wire or wireless).

  Under the Network Configuration, the local IP address is set to 192.168.1.1.  On your router, the default value for this entry is 192.168.1.254.  Just under which are entered for "DHCP Server" "" starting IP address"and"Maximum number of DHCP users."  Here are the settings that you want to search.  The two critical parameters, as regards your current problem is are (1) the server DHCP must be "enabled" and "(2) the number of DHCP users Maximum" must be equal to or greater than the total number of computers that you want to connect (wired and wireless).

  Sorry I can't give you more specific instructions.  Usually, the user guide for the router will display all the available screens in the router configuration utility... but not this one.

• WRT610N home network problems

  Hello, my network is not working properly at home.  Computers communicate with each other and I can't save on my NAS.  I think that there is a problem with administrators and/or the useres, but I have no idea.  This is the upward.  I'd appreciate any help that anyone can give me.

  (Wireless) LAPTOP running XP SP3.  DESKTOP computer running Windows 2000.  Western Digital MY BOOK (1 TB, call the BIG HD) connected to the WRT610N for NAS.  Western Digital MY BOOK (500 GB, call LITTLE HD) connected directly to the DESKTOP and shared with EVERYONE.  Computers and the router are assigned to the 'HOME' network  All IP addresses are static.  All firewalls have other computers IP Allow or FULL TRUST.  Before adding the WRT610N computers are networked and two external drives we connected to the DEKSTOP and everything worked great using a wrt54g.  The two external HDs were shared and I could read/write in everything on a hard drive of computers.   I could save the laptop via Norton 360 on each disc. Only problem was the speed and I wanted the SIN for the DLNA media service. Since then, I installed the WRT610N and connected to it the BIG HD for the uses mentioned previously.  There are a couple of different issues going on that I can't understand.

  First of all, DESKTOP does not see other computers in the HOME network.  It is always assigned to the HOME network.  Trying to view other computers in the HOME network, that the DESKTOP appears.

  Laptop will show the WRT610N and the OFFICE of the HOME network.  Laptop will be connect/read/write to the BIG HD on the WRT610N. Laptop has no permission to access OFFICE. So I can't go to the SMALL HD on the DESKTOP via laptop.

  This is where it gets really strange.  When you back up PORTABLE HD GRAND via Norton 360, the backup fails after 832 files.  After the backup fails, laptop no longer has permision to access the BIG HD.  Laptop can no longer open WRT610N of icon in the HOME network either.  Does not have permission.  Also, if I try to click the icon for the WRT610N on the HOME network or the icon for the mapped HD BIG in my computer, the wireless signal is de-energized and resets the WRT610.  Laptop gets all rights, and permisions on WRT610N back after restarting the laptop.

  Before attempting the back upward, I made the BIG HD available via FTP and www.dyndns.com.  It worked, I could remotely to the BIG HD from other computers via internet.  Then after that the BACKUP failed, I got an email from dyndns.com saying that my host name has been blocked.  Dyndns.com, three reasons for blocking are ' updates to your client on an interval (e.g. hourly), your client is defective (e.g. flooding), you run several clients. "  I don't know why mine failed, but he did about the same time, I ran back upward.  I know that I don't have muliple customers.  It is the only host name or service or what I use with dyndns.com.  I sent without changing anything on the WRT610N, dyndns.com, asked to be unblocked, and they unlocked my hostname. Have not been blocked since then, but I have not tried a return to the top since I unlocked yesterday.

  It's the last symptom.  In my HD GRAND, all users and "S-1-5-21-789336058-329068152-725345543-5703" are listed as users.  I understand that the long alphanumeric user can be the WRT610N.  I didn't create it and I can't remove it.  I don't know if this user is on the SMALL HD.

  So, how can I get the DESKTOP on the HOME network?  How can I get the LAPTOP and the DESKTOP sharing?  How can I get the LAPTOP to save BIG HD without dropping out and having to restart the laptop (can't get a full backup now)?  This is a problem of 'property' on which device has the HOME network.  I know initially (WRT54G days) I have everything set up by the OFFICE.  It now appears that the property could be made through the WRT610N.  EVERYONE is allowed on each disc shared in the HOME network.  All drives and shared folders have different names.  All the problems occur with all security and firewalls as well off.  I already flashed the firmware and power cycled the WRT610N about 30 times over the 3 months because of the attempts to connect the two HDs at the same time.  The WRT610N seems to be stable except to drop the connection after 832 files during back upward.

  Can someone help me please?

  As you mentioned that all computers are in the same workgroup. Thing you need to check, on your desktop, open the window prompt commands and ping your IP of your laptop and check if you get all the answers, if you are getting answered, on your desktop, click Start - RUN - "\\Laptop IP" and click OK... and it will show you the folder list or the drivers that you have shared on your laptop , Just right-click on it and select 'Map network drive' and below check "Reconnect to the connection" and click Finish. It will be the card your laptop computer drivers shared on your desktop and you should be able to transfer the files from your desktop to the laptop.

  When you ping your laptop from your desktop computer are we can't get an answer, then you can try to disable the firewall and Antivirus on your computer.

  Your router has changed the MTU size to 1300 and click on save settings... That does not solve the problem even if you transfer files from your desktop / laptop computer on the NAS.

  I have problems with my home network; my laptop is unable to access the files on my HTPC

  More precisely:

  Laptops and PCs are running Windows 7 Ultimate. My laptop is connected to the home wireless network, the PC is connected through the LAN. Router is a Netgear DG834GV. Both computers have fixed IP addresses. They are part of the standard workgroup workgroup. There was formerly a group residential, put in place, which worked very well. We also have a Vista laptop that does all the unusual problems. Until a few days ago, the whole Setup worked perfectly. I could previously access/copy/distribute multimedia content, play on the PC via Zune music on my laptop and print from my laptop to the computer, but now I am unable to do one of these. The other laptop still works fine.
  From the network on the PC screen, I can see the files from the laptop and access.

  However, since the network on the computer screen laptop, I see the PC, but when I try to open it I get the error "Windows could not access \\MEDIACENTER. 0 x 80070035 the network path was not found. "I ping the PC with the IP address and name, and I can even remote to the computer desktop.

  Here is the solution for "error code 0 x 80070035 network path not found" on Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers. Click on the button 'START', select 'CONTROL PANEL' and go to 'DEVICE MANAGER'. Click on "NETWORK CARDS", then click on 'VIEW' and select 'SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES'. In the expanded view, you will see a long list of numbered "MICROSOFT 6to4 ADAPTER". My Windows 7 Professional Office had 200 of them. Right click and select 'DELETE' on all but 1 of them. You can only do 1 at a time, so it takes some time. When you have only 1 left, restart the computer and enjoy being able to see the other computers on your network, including the RESIDENTIAL group files.

  Old but still good advice of the MS MVP Malke networking.  See, for example, points C and d:

  For XP, start by running the Network Setup Wizard the on all machines (see warning in section A below).

  Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

  A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, it means which allows file sharing / print on the Exceptions tab normally run the XP Network Setup Wizard will take care of this for these machines. The only "witch hunt", it will turn on the XPSP2 Windows Firewall. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus with "Internet Worm Protection" (like Norton 2006/07) which acts as a firewall, you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

  (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

  C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this. The instructions on this link work for XP and Vista:

  D. Si one or more of the computers is XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

  E. create share as you wish. XP Home does not share the users directory or the Program Files, but you can share folders inside those directories. A better choice is to simply use the Shared Documents folder. See the first link above for more information on Vista sharing.

  F. you have the job of file sharing (and tested by exchanging a file between machines), if you want to share a printer connected locally to one of your computers, share of this machine. Then go to the printer mftr Web site. and download the latest drivers for the correct system. Install them on the target machines. The printer must be collected during the installation procedure. If this isn't the case, install the drivers and then use the Add Printer Wizard. In some cases, printers must be installed as local printers, but it is outside this response.

• Home network problem cannot access one of that PC even if should be able

  I ran into a problem... I have a PC running Windows Vista and Windows 7 PC on my network home. I can 'see' each from the other PC PC when I go on the network. The Windows Vista-based computer can access shared folders on the Windows 7 PC... and the Windows Vista computer can share items specially for windows 7 PC SHOULD have access to these folders. I placed the user for the Windows 7 PC as co-owner. HOWEVER, when I go to the network on the Windows 7 option, I select the Vista PC in the network thinking it should then show me the file and instead, troubleshooting network appears.

  When I go to the troubleshooter, it says that it can't find the Vista machine... even if it it displays network before I tried to access it.

  They are both in the same workgroup. I checked the machine windows 7 has permission for the folder in question indeed. and I've checked that the machine of windows Vista CAN access folders on the windows machine 7...

  No idea what I'm missing?

  o identical user accounts create on all computers in the workgroup (recommended). For more information, see create a user account.

  o turn off password protected sharing. To turn off password protected sharing, follow these steps:

  a. open the network and sharing Center by clicking the Start button on the Control Panel, click Network and Internet, and then click Network and sharing Center.

  b. under sharing and discovery, click the arrow next to password protected sharing.

  c. click turn off password protected sharing, and then click apply.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  Printer:  HP Photosmart C5180 all-in-one

  OS:        Windows 7 Ultimate

  History:  Had DSL and installed the printer without problems using the IP printer and WIN7 Installer.

  Passed to FIOS and received a new router wireless and new ips for everything.  A laptop is connected to the printer via the port USB... works very well.  The other laptop I tried to connect to the printer via the network (wireless and inflexible to the router) without success.

  Wrestling:  When I had DSL, the screen of the printer worked fine. UH... then, for some reason, uh, it stop working.  I'm no expert, but there was this time when some paper stuck internally and I disassembled the top and rear it ever-so-carefully. However, during reassembly, the top fell back and pulled out a few ribbon cable... maybe those two things are correlated... in any case, I did retrieve the jammed paper.

  Gaps:  I can't figure out how to discover the new ip of the printer, and ""Add a printer"in Windows 7 will not conclude it on the network (the printer displays networking lights: green and orange flashing at random)"

  PS I know where I can get a replacement ribbon cable?

  Okay, either HP and the border do not mix with the ethernet or the HP some how broken when the guys from Frontier moved my netgear ethernet cord to their router/modem...  I give up... bought a new printer.

  Hi, I wonder if someone could help?

  I have trouble setting up a network as I want. My implementation consists of 2 x laptops and desktops x 2, all with a direct connection to the internet via a wireless router.

  I want to use one of desktop computers as network storage device, accessible from any of the three other aircraft. I used the wireless network wizard to create a network that works, but the connection to that means I have to disconnect the direct connection to the internet that is already on each computer. While obviously I can reconnect, I don't want to keep swapping networks whenever I want to dump/extract a file from the NAS

  I don't want to use a computer for the internet while having others connect through it, as that would always have this particular feature turned on and seems also unnecessary, since they currently have direct access.

  I would have because they are all connected to the same wireless router, file sharing should be simple enough without having to create a separate network, but I am struggling to find all the details on how to do it. I tried to add network places on each computer, but they don't see the other unless it is connected to the new network I created.

  I also tried the Hic Ad method, which once worked but required me to disconnect the domestic Internet to connect to the network.

  As a side note, when you use the Network Wizard, I was invited to transfer the parameters via key to the wireless router, as I did with all the other devices on the network. I can't do that as there is no USB port on the router (come to think of it, he was not on any wireless router I've owned).

  All are running on XP Home or XP Pro. Help, please!

• Vista Home networking problem

  Background: I have 3 desktops (XP, Vista, Win 7) and
  a laptop (Vista) connected to a router Cisco Linksys WRT - 110 and from there to a modem DSL of BEAK. Desktop computers are wired connections; the laptop is wireless. XP, Win 7 and the laptop can connect to the network and to the internet very well, but the Vista desktop has suddenly stopped connecting last week.

  Device Manager displays two NICs: Microsoft Tun
  Miniport (shown as disabled with a Code 10), and
  a Realtek RTL 81688 which shows as enabled and working properly.  I uninstalled the driver Miniport of MS and Vista reinstalled the next time you start with the same error code.  I also did a system restore (for more than a month ago when the system was working properly) without help.  Have tried everything obvious like the change of cord of brewing, analyses of viruses and malware, etc. but the problem remains.

  Would appreciate any suggestions.

  Thanks for your reply. A few minutes ago, I found the problem... not with Vista or my router, but with the integrated Realtek LAN controller.  I ran the repair of Gigabyte MB LAN utility and... Presto!   All the above problems have disappeared and I once more the local area network and Internet access.  Do not understand why the LAN Controller could cause all these apparent problems of Vista, but it's there.

• Cannot connect to the home network wireless hp 6910

  I can connect anything either but my hp (compaq) 6910p to my network wireless home.  It will connect to the network unprotected to a neighbor, but not my own.
