Windows 7 backup - EFS

Hi all

I have recently gone through those all important daily backups using the backup of Windows 7 standard and utility restoration.

One aspect that I have recently introduced is the use of EFS to protect certain folders on laptops that are then saved with the tool above. EFS relies on the local NTFS file system to maintain its security of the files, when you copy a file to another external location, it opens with a warning to this effect.

This also apply to Windows backup too, IE are stored without security once saved files?

At the opening of the backup, the records in question lose green color then I guess that Yes?

The only documentation web I could find relates the the developers of Microsoft http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa363783(v=vs.85).aspx site here

Most of the other links refer to BitLocker to go for backups.

Thank you very much

Hello Ja55,

Your patience with the question is very much appreciated!

There are many software of third party which could facilitate backup and restore with
password.

In regards to your first post, you want to restore the backup the encrypted files (encrypted by EFS functionality) and wanted to know if the restored files remain encrypted. Have you noticed that the files lose the green color of encryption after they are restored (see first post: on the opening of the backup, the folders in question lose green color then I guess that Yes?) that specifies the files that have been saved in encrypted format lose the encryption after they are restored.

Based on the above understanding, I want to suggest that if the encrypted files and folders are saved (regardless of an external hard drive, DVD or any other portable media), they retain the encryption (green color of the EFS feature) after restoration.

Now, if you restore the files in a different user account or your PC, you may not be able to access the files without the backup of the corresponding EFS certificates. However, if you restore the files in the same user account, the files will be accessible but you will always notice that the names of files
will be green color. I have reproduced this problem in a test environment and concluded that the above description to the best of my knowledge.

I hope that this information helps your first question. However, if you have the query or note any misinterpretation of your question, please do not hesitate to respond with the right explanation. We will be more than happy to help you again.

    Hello

To be honest, your ad is a little hard to understand and I don t know what you mean exactly.

The built-in backup tool of XP can save all the directories you want if you choose advanced options. But this tool isn't so comfortable; You can access the data on a running system. More comfortable are Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image in my opinion.

You can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. That's why you need to do a clean install and therefore you don't need a backup.
Just copy your important files like photos, music, etc. on an external HARD drive. All that s! After installing Windows 7, you can copy on the laptop.

  • Windows Server backup - Reporting failure, but creates a backup file

Currently have a Server 2008 R2 running. Also runs Hyper-V with 3 than VMS. VM can be found on the D drive, so I have given up trying to save with C, since it was time.

I don't have a setup of daily - just VSS full backup disk Local (c), no bare metal recovery or backup the system state. It's backup on a network drive shared on a different server.

Daily backup status comes back as having failed. However when I go to the destination that the backup must be going, I see a 280 GB VHD file, which is the size expected to see.

The error reported in the Windows Server backup is "one of the backup files could not be created. "Error: the parameter is incorrect".

WSB is horrible to provide crash reports useful on what is the real problem.

Anyone have any idea why it's create a large file of backup, but reported as having failed with this error?

  • previous versions of files available for recovery "windows server backup.

I use "windows server backup" to back up my Windows Server 2008R2 and R2 for Windows Server 2012 boxes.

Using the graphical user interface of 'windows split backup', I can:

o search the various backups on disk

o down through the tree of a given instance of a backup to disk

o select a single file to retrieve

I want to watch all instances of a file that do not exist to recover.  This feature is available in 'windows explorer' by the 'previous versions' tab.  How can I get this same 'previous versions' ability via the 'windows server backup"collect mistletoe?

Are there other utilities (other that the 'windows server backup"recover gui) that allow me to browse the catalog of backup?

Is it possible to browse the catalogue using the powershell cmdlets?

  • Windows Server backup failed

    Hello

We have a problem with our Windows Server backup on our main server. It fails every night and you see disks (5 discs for each day from Monday to Friday) to be offline, even if we can access the data and restore files/folders. We tested another software to backup with one of our readers, and he was properly executed. The event log shows error event ID 561 and 546 "...". the backup failed as no target could be found... "Any ideas what is the cause? As I have said that we ran successfully backup by using one of the players and another software so I don't think it's a hardware problem.

    Thanks in advance

Windows Vista backup files are in. Disc format hard virtual which is only supported in Vista. You would have to restore them on a computer that is running Windows Vista and then copy the contents of the Windows XP computer.

How can I identify the name of the invisible file for a backup file successfully to an external hard drive USB2 separate?  I use Windows Vista backup program (Service Pack 2), and I need to do backups plus two from other computers on the same external hard drive.  To do this, I think I would need to identify each backup file separate I know which file to specify if I need to do a restore.

How can I accomplish this? The program does not seem to give me the ability to specify a file to which to write the backup during a given session files.  In addition, I do not understand why I can not see the file name in Windows Explorer - my files options are defined to be able to view hidden and system.  Would be grateful for any help you can provide, tonight if possible.   Best regards, Oliver for Norm
