I recently replaced a motherboard failed in our computer and now I get a "Windows 7 Build 7601 this copy of windows is not genuine" message.  Help, please.  Thank you.  Ed

You have used the product key OEM SLP from the factory (which won't work) and not the key of the COA is located on the sticker on the PC.

You must change the key of 25 characters than on the sticker (side cover of a desktop computer, lower compartment or inside a laptop).

Try the following:

Open a prompt (run as administrator) and enter:

slmgr - ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX, then press 'Enter' (where XXXX is your key)

then enter: slmgr - ato and press ENTER.

Wait a few seconds, then exit command prompt. Now to see if your real, reboot if necessary and, even if it's not true they activate by phone.

1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) to select your "country" you are in the drop-down list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone * do not select/press any option * and wait for a person to help you.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.
(7) the person must give you a confirmation ID, copy it down on paper,
(8) check that the ID is correct in reading the support person.
(9) to enter the ID number, then click 'Next' to complete the activation process.

    To begin, I must say that I am pretty clueless when it comes to computer skills.

    To summarize, I sent my CPU to a repair shop when my computer has stopped working. I removed my hard drive before starting the repairs because it contains confidential data.  They have narrowed the cause to a faulty motherboard and replaced by a new dissimilar.
    At the store, the guy had a vista 64 bit recovery disc so I have it home and tried to fix it. He said it will be a breeze and relatively bug free. As part of the Startup Repair, I tried to drive the Startup Repair, and tests were all successful except one. An error of diagnosis readings

    time taken = 720023 ms
    Everything I've done has led to a brief blue screen to the Windows loading screen and then it restarts itself.
    I also tried to restore to the previous two points, but it has also led to the square - a brief blue screen after the loading screen and restarts on its own windows. I'm not ready to reinstall vista and I can't afford to do it too, because I don't have enough disk space to perform another installation. Nor am I willing to reformat one of my two disks.

    I'm sorry, but you have to completely reinstall the operating system after replacing the motherboard with a different motherboard.

    "Startup Repair" is exactly that: a start NOT a repair system repairs

    What has happened, it is the operating system on your hard disk contains the drivers for the old motherboard and does not and you can't change drivers in doing what you do.

    The only way to solve this problem is to reinstall Vista.

    You wipe the hard drive and restart and make sure that the repair shop gave you the disc to install the new drivers of motherboard after you reinstall vista or download on the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard.

    And here a question for you to consider, too.

    If you bought a copy of Vista retail yourself, you can use the method above to a new installation and then install the new disk motherboard drivers.

    But, if your computer is a trademark of purchased manufacturer, HP, Toshiba, etc., you can not change the motherboard that the license of Vista OEM is stuck at motherboard the origin of the manufacturer that it has been installed on and now you canceled your Vista license.

    A month ago, I replaced my 5 + years computer's hard drive (an old Dell with Win 7 home premium), reinstalled windows (Yes, an authentic version) and went on my way happy.  Yesterday, in the typical fashion of this error, the background went black and I get the small "Windows 7 Build 7601 this copy of Windows is not genuine" in the lower right corner.  I also get popups from Windows telling me to validate my version, I tried and he repeated to me that it cannot validate it.  I have downloaded and run MGADiag.exe, with the results displayed below (even if I took the liberty to remove the characters of the product key and the hash key, as I not sure if that can be used maliciously or not).  Any help is really appreciated.

    Select Start, right-click on computer and select Properties. There is Activation of Windows at the bottom of the windows. Click on change product key and enter the product key (25 characters), and then click Nextto activate via the internet.     I recently had to do a complete reset of the system (reconstituted in State 'out of the box') on my HP laptop. The HP Installer went well and the home screen loaded correctly. However, in the lower right corner of the screen there is a message that says "Windows 7 Build 7600 don't authentic not» I ignored and installed a bunch of Windows updates (56 I think) and my computer restarted. When I did I had a reading of message something like "your copy of Windows 7 may be forged" and I was given the opportunity to either purchase a full version, enter a serial code, contact HP. I bought this laptop from Best Buy and they have already set everything so I did not initially install the operating system. They gave me four "restore disc" with her if. Is it likely that the fix is out there and I just need to run all them, do I have to contact HP, or y at - it somewhere I can find my serial code? Any help would be appreciated.

    OK, thanks to a thread on DANIWEB here is the solution to my problem - Hiren BootCD (v15.1). MiniXP to start and run difficult HDD controller app. This allowed Vista to boot far enough to get the cd accompanying the motherboard. Later, life is good, Vista hasn't even complained on the new motherboard and licenses.

    I want to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium on it, and I deleted the recovery partition (I know, I shouldn't, but it's done and there's no going back)

    Can I borrow a friend (RETAIL) Windows 7 Home Premium disc and activate Windows 7 with my OEM key that is printed on the COA label in the battery bay? I've never used the key again, Windows has already been activated when I bought the laptop, and it's the first time I reinstall. I downloaded all the drivers on the HP support site and saved on a USB key with a view of the reinstall.

    However, I don't see an option to download Windows 7 OEM.

    The motherboard has been replaced by official website HP tech support, I guess it is the same model that came with the laptop?

    Yes, you can use this DVD Windows 7 Home Premium retail because it was Home Premium you had before.  If you have 64-bit Windows 7 before, then you want the 64 bit DVD.  If you have 32 bit Windows 7 before, then you want the 32 bit DVD.  If you have 64-bit Windows 7 before, then you can use the 32-bit DVD if you have no choice and you may never notice the difference.

    When you get to step installation product key, it can be easier to choose the activate later option.

    When it's over, then activate via the Control Panel, [view by - small icons, as applicable], page system.  Falling down and it should then give you instructions to contact for activation of the phone.  If there is no problem with that, you can also get to the activation of the phone by typing slui 4 [not only slui but slui 4] in your Start menu search and then following that area through to get the phone number for your region.

    When you call, you will get an automatic response with the choice to make.  You can hang without make any choices at all and you will possibly connected to a human operator.

    When you talk to them, don't forget to explain that the motherboard has failed and has been replaced by the same type of motherboard as something akin to a motherboard upgrade would be ineligible for activation.

  • Windows 7 Build 7601 not authentic on brand new computer

    Purchased my Lenovo to Fry mid October 2012.  Have already experienced several BSOD right after that MS updates were installed every time.  A few days ago, I met several BSOD right after that the Windows updates were installed.  On the last BSOD, I get the message Windows 7 Build 7601 not authentic.  Nothing I tried as suggested on screen worked, amounts to the same thing.  I am a student full time online.  Fall semester ends on Sunday, December 16, and I'm way now behind on all my homework back and my final exams in all categories.  It does not help and I have not the time to take my computer to Fry for them to take a look.  All my data is stored here.  In addition, I tried to restore to another time, when you restart the message was still there then I turned off and when rekindled later it had disappeared, but returned for the next day.  I tried to restore againn but this time it won't go away.  I don't know where my product key is, as it is not on the computer itself.  It may be on a manual but I have since moved and had the movers help me and they put things in the back of my storage unit or in boxes not recognized.  So until I go through everything in my storage unit I'm screwed.  Please help as soon as possible because it's really me screwing.

    You install the driver from Windows Update updates?

    If so, I would avoid their installation in the future and instead to download any available hardware updates directly from the manufacturers Web site.

    I also suggest that when you get a new computer and you start for the first time, you must create a system restore point.

    As each new Windows 7 PC should come with a COA sticker that is attached to it, this is one evidence of a genuine license installed on the machine. If you bought it on shelf, its possible someone could have pulled off the sticker.

    Always check for a real sticker or buy any of the machine.

    It seems that you have bad luck with Fry, FRY well their business and the purchase of another where, there is nothing particularly special to their topic. Try to buy directly from the manufacturer online or try another store, if you live close to a Microsoft Store, you can go.

    I reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium on my computer 2 months ago and had no problems until last night when the wallpaper turned black and in the corner it says Windows 7 Build 7601, this copy of Windows is not genuine.  My copy is authentic then when I'm go to type in my cd key to activate once again he gave me error 0xC004F063 code, saying that the Software Licensing Service reported that the BIOS is missing a required license.

    I did not any changes to my computer in terms of hardware.  I also ran a diagnostic report, as suggested, on similar topics. As a student, I use my computer laptop a lot for my work (and with a deadline tomorrow I'm panicking a lot) then I would be really grateful to anyone who can help me solve this problem.

    Edit * I think I must insist on this point since many places say to activate by phone, my phone is a Samsung Q330 laptop and as such, I've noticed that it does not come with many features of Windows that would probably be available for others.  Run slui.exe 4 does not open a box for me that allows me to choose a country for the activation of the phone (see below).  And cannot not get me other ways to activate when I go into the properties of the computer.

    Make sure that you type the key correctly.

    Some characters are not used as 0 and o. try Q instead. (or D)
    often combined characters are B and 8
    G and 6
    Then I tried to activate by phone you said but when you run slui.exe 4, all I get are the options:

    (1) buy a new product key online
    (2) type a different product key (which brings back me to the starting point)
    (3) contact Microsoft to help solve this problem (which I do now).


    This is a normal behavior for an OEM SLP key. It will not work until your product key is changed.
    Also can I ask why so many people seems to be to get this problem too, even when their is real as well?

    In fact with millions of OEM sold this problem is rare. For the most part we don't know why this is happening.

  • Reactivate Windows 7 after replacing the motherboard

    I had to replace the motherboard. I have a 3-license Windows 7, installed copy on 3 machines (including this one). Windows tells me I have to reactivate, but the system of automatic phone won't let me because he thinks he's already on 3 machines. I can't find a way to learn how to talk to a person to explain.   • How to re-enable Windows 7 after replacing the motherboard.

    I managed to replace the motherboard in an Acer Aspire v3 and all is well (or almost).

    Only problem is that Windows 7 requires now that I'm using an illegal copy of Windows.

    I know that the reason is that the version of Windows OEM is selected with the original motherboard.

    I talked to both supports of Microsoft and Acer support several times but neither can or reactivates my windows. Is it really to do I have to pay for a new product key as a consequence of a repair?

  • Impossible to reinstall Vista after replacing the motherboard

    I have replace my mobo last week.  I still have the same hard disk, cpu and RAM.  After starting my computer to the top, she would not accept vista for some reason any (I don't remember why) he did without BSOD for half a second, and then restart.  I find out one of my RAM sticks, lock was not engaged.  I fixed that, but it did not work.  I tried the system repair and recovery system, but they do not work.  I tried to reinstall vista with my recovery disks.  I reformatted the hard drive and complete the installation.  When the computer reboots, it said I had a system configuration error and I had to contact my computer manufacturer.  Of course HP could not help me because I have replaced the motherboard. I'm able to run my conputer because I installed ubuntu later. Everything works. My question is, when I have windows 7, I have to but the commercial version or do the upgrade?

    You will need a full retail version of Windows 7 or you could just buy a license for Windows 7 system builder OEM.

  • Want to 800-060: reactivation after replacing the motherboard

    I bought a HP Envy 800-060 with Windows 8 pre - install Amazon in July of 2013. It was an incredible computer since that time, and when the free update of Windows 8 for Windows 10, I did immediately released. Recently, however, the motherboard has failed on the computer. It would not stay same POSITION, and after much troubleshooting, I finally decided to replace the motherboard. Now that the computer is running again, I guess that the motherboard change was sufficient for the operating system to think that it is no longer enabled. I was never provided with a key of Activation of OS (Win8 has been pre-installed), and Microsoft has suggested that I contact HP to find the original key. I've looked everywhere on the chassis and inside the tower for a valid Windows activation key, nothing helps. I tried to find a phone number to call for support, but my product is outside the guarantee. I don't need advice or troubleshooting tips (so I don't pay the $59.99), all I need is my activation key valid Windows based on my serial number of the product. Anyone know the best way to achieve HP with this problem and have it is resolved?

    The unfortunate, is that your original product key has been incorporated in the firmware original by HP motherboard UEFI when the PC was built.  There is no way to recover this key now.

    HP retains no record of keys to individualized product corresponding to individual computers, so they won't be able to provide you with the original key - and they are under no obligation to provide you with a SECOND key, that you didn't do the replacement of HP hardware.

    With the product now being out of warranty, it's really call HP or not you upload support - and the experience I have had with older equipment-, they do that, there's just no way around IDs.

    HP customer support is really the only way you have to get support.  If they don't help you for free, because your PC is out of warranty, there is nothing we can do about it on this forum.
