  • Can I switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 by installing Windows 7 without uninstalling XP?

Can I switch from Windows XP to Windows 7 by installing Windows 7 without uninstalling XP?

Yes, and in fact you must do in order to qualify for the upgrade price.  You must realize, however, this update of XP to 7 involves a "custom installation" - that is, you must save your data first (on external support) and to reinstall all your applications after that Win 7 is running.

Under certain circumstances, installing Windows 7 might create a windows.old file, but it's not clear to me what is stored in memory in the transition from XP to 7. you will certainly be able to run one of your older applications without having to reinstall them.  See, for example, http://www.chron.com/business/silverman/article/Going-from-Windows-XP-to-Windows-7-It-s-not-1609463.php

  • Windows do not install display error c1900101-30018

    Original title: windows 10

Why windows do not install display error c1900101-30018

The phase "Installation drivers and features" is the most delicate part of the upgrade. If you see a c1900101 x300xx failure, it means that we have failed in this phase. The most common failure is x 30018, which usually means a driver crashed when we there for the first time. Any driver can cause failure, but he can't block 100% of the time. If you try again, it may work only.

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    then

    then

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).

I have a computer dell laptop with windows 7 home installed on it with the genuine key. Now I want to reinstall windows 7 on my system as a hard drive got corrupted and I have not any recovery dvd with me. So now can I download windows 7 ultimate home on microsoft's site and use my key to install on my system again.

    Hi Vivek

Thanks for your posting in Microsoft Community

You do not mention if you had preloaded OS from dell

If the machine is under warranty and the HARD drive has been corrupted then Dell will provide again new HDD with Os

the disks are independent keys. So if you're victim is telling the truth, you can someone else drive and simply type your key when it asks for this step.

Or on the Microsoft site, you can get in contact with them in order to obtain another copy of the discs (I don't know how much they charge).
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

I would not recommend upload images potentially illegal discs on the internet, you don't know if they are authentic or viruses.

hose is potentially customized Windows to predict that the manufacturer (in this case dell/alienware).

You can use another disk, if they bought the same product that you have purchased.

So if you actually bought Windows then it would be the same.

But your friend didn't buy Windows at all, there is nowhere on his desk where he gives money to Microsoft. What they buy is a dell (and Dell gives a dell means windows)

  • Error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk.

I do a custom installation of Windows 7 64-bit and am boot from upgrade retail DVD. Motherboard is an Intel D975XBX . I have the latest version of the BIOS from Intel. I do not use the integrated RAID SATA Silicon Image controller and hear my SATA to emulate IDE mode in the BIOS. During the startup of Windows 7 DVD, it always tells me that he needs additional drivers, so I point to the latest drivers from Silicon Image Vista 64-bit Intel, and he proceeds to the next screen.

Then I get the screen that shows me the list of my disks and partitions that asks where I want to install Windows. On every single disc I click on, at the bottom of the dialog box, I see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and the message "what Windows can not be installed on the disk ...". "When I click on the"View details"link next to it, I see a dialog box that says:"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Make sure that the drive controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. "

I have four SATA drives, three that I use for several years with Windows XP. The fourth disc is a brand new Western Digital 750 GB that I bought just for Windows 7, so that I can dualboot. I can boot fine in XP, I see all four drives very well and I used the XP Disk Manager to format the new 750 GB drive.

To repeat: I get the "Windows cannot be installed to this disk" on all readers listed: a vacuum brand new, one that starts well in XP and the other two that I use to store data for the instance of my XP.

I searched on Microsoft Answers, as well as through the internet for a tip on how to solve this and found nothing.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you
    Bill

The only possible answer for you is to find Windows 7 compatible drivers for the Sata controller or get a new controller.

  • Windows 8 clean install on Windows Vista

Well at first I tried to install Windows 8 However he says that this is impossible because the O. S I had was not compatible

Well I then tried to burn a DVD on my Windows 7 computer and tried to get the installation file that is installed on the same

Then, I now try to run the same disk on my Vista computer

I just wanted to confirm what else I need to do in the BIOS menu

("If possible can you guys include a screenshot with")

    Thank you

First, you must set your BIOS to boot from the DVD:

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:

    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

Boot from the DVD Windows 8
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 8 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • How to buy an Alienware with Windows 7 Pre - installed 17!

I live in England and I need to buy an Alienware 17 High Spec model with Windows 7 Pre - installed.

There might be a straight forward application but is not only everything I keep being told its only available with 8.1 is o/s.

I checked on the web site of the United Kingdom and there under the heading:-features & Design

Available with Windows 7 Home Premium - for a smooth and flexible PC experience.

Can someone please confirm that this computer is available with 7 o/s or it is not can you please remove the ad as its very confusing.

In reading the other topics on this forum its very clear that this is not a simple re install with 7 o/s and not the kind of thing you do when you buy a new computer.

This computer is not for domestic use and is to be used on board the ship have been around computers run 7 o/s.

    Thanks a lot for reading

Thank you very much for your reply and I contact sales in the States and it is possible for me to buy a MX 17 or 18, but it must be shipped to an address in the States. It's ok since we do not have an office in Seattle.

However, as it must then be sent reports to the United Kingdom this means I would pay extra delivery customs cost plus so it would not be worth extra costs involved. For the only options that I can see who is available to me buy a non Dell machine or buy a used machine, on Ebay with low spec with windows 7 installed, or the purchase of a UK machine then installing windows 7 Professional our me however, I understand it's not a simple as that.

I thought it would be a right task replacing one of the computers on our ships, but its clear sound far right forward, why is the possibility to buy the o/s 7 available only to States.

  • Boot Camp Windows Installation 10 - "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. It's the GPT partition style.

    Hello

I tried to dual boot Windows 10 alongside OS X El Capitan on my iMac 21.5 inch i5 end 2013. I have followed all the instructions in the Boot Camp assistant, restart, choose the yellow 'Windows' drive to boot from, but when I get to the Windows installation, enter the product key and language, and then select the partition (0-4, the partition Disk Partition) it tells me that "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is the GPT partition style. »

So I found this answer: How do I install Windows 8.1 on Haswell MBP

But then I received the same error.

    Tried this: http://macriot.com/mcrt/?p=2362

But fdisk TPG allow me to change anything, as the SIP is enabled.

Tried to disable SIP via a command line in a terminal in recovery mode, but got an error-bash: command not found csrutil.

So now I'm stuck on all fronts. Any ideas?

    Thank you

    RedPanda

    1. your iMac end 2013 supports the facilities of BIOS/MBR and GPT/EFI.

    2. the legacy BIOS/MBR method requires a hybrid MBR.

3 EFI/GPT is recommended for your specific model.

    4. you can use the GPT Fdisk steps in your link to make your drive a GPT disk only. It is not enough.

    5. you will need to convert the FAT32 partition space using the following OS X Terminal

    diskutil eraseVolume free disk0s4 FREE

This will return an error, because free space is not associated with disk slices.

    6. at this point, use the USB installer created by the wizard of BC, boot from it and hold down the Alt/Option key and select Boot EFI (not Windows). Point to the portion of the free space that you see after the + 620 MB Recovery HD. It will separate into a small (128 MB) MSR and the rest as MSD (NTFS).

    7. do not install W7 in Boot EFI, because it has some difficulties.

    8. when Windows is installed, and BC drivers are not installed, run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder.

    9. If csrutil is not found, you are in the recovery of the Internet, because your local Recovery HD is corrupted. The rescue of the failure of the local recovery is restoration of Internet. Your must be on El Capitan. There is no csrutil (or SIP) before El Capitan.

  • I want to uninstall Windows 8 and install Windows 7

    HP ENVY m6-1125dx Notebook PC

My laptop came with Windows 8. I really don't like Windows 8, it is too restrictive. I want to uninstall Windows 8 and install Windows 7. How to go? Where can I get the operating system and driver software.

Should I buy Windows 7 separately? Or can I use the same key?

Before installing Windows 7, can I suggest an idea?

I had the same problem: I'm a Windows 7 user who bought a laptop Windows 8 and don't really like the Metro user interface. It is half cooked for desktop/laptop computer, several apps to not scroll horizontally with the touchpad, etc, etc.

But what I did install a simple program called "Debut8" (http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/) that still allows me to go right at the part 8 Windows desktop and use it as I have Windows 7. The advantage of this approach is that you get the benefits of the internal improvement of Windows 8 (some improvements in performance on Windows 7, etc.) and do not have the hassle/cost of installing Windows 7. You can also try a GPL program called Classic Shell (http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/). So far I am happy with debut8 as a solution.

Anyway, worth before going through the cost and difficulty of installing Windows 7.
