Windows 7 encrypted my "My Documents" folder. I forgot to back up the key. updated to win 8 pro cant access my My Documents"" folder.

Hi, I was running windows 7 Professional and encrypted my My Documents"" folder. I forgot to back up the key. I have upgraded to windows 8 Professional on the same laptop thinking that everything remains the same, but can't access my folder 'My Documents'.

I even had to pass Microsoft by logging into the user local signature hoping it will work but still does not work

Please what do I do?

Thank you

When you your encrypted data, you did because you believed that no one can figure it out without a valid certificate. You were correct. EFS does not distinguish between you (the owner) and a potential data thief. He only cares about certificates. If it was different, then it would be pointless protect your data.

Please note that Windows 7 Release Candidate is a preliminary version of Windows and should not have has been used as a release candidate.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

She had this machine for about 4 years and in recent weeks, she had this recurring demand for re turn on his machine.

Unfortunately, when she bought this machine, it did not have the OEM disc and I find no hint of the usual OEM stickers that should have been on the machine. Apparently she bought from a vendor just a couple of the townships far away and is no longer there.

I regret to say that it seems that installation is a counterfeit.

The motherboard seems to be an a detail - the key used OEM_SLP is one for the Asus computer.

There is no SLIC table in BIOS (as it should be in any computer with Windows OEM pre-installed)

The machine was sent for repair to anyone? -replacement motherboard could cause these problems.

In view of the fact that you do not find a COA sticker, I guess the original installation was a fake, but it was only discovered by a need to validate the system.

The only real options are either to buy a complete package of legal retail for Vista Ultimate and use the key for this to make the authentic system. or to buy a pack of Win7 full detail to any edition of Windows is going to suit your friend and then clean install that (after you back up all data from external storage).

Note that in most circumstances, it would be useless for your friend to have a full edition of Vista or Win7 - at most, professional would be the natural choice, but it is likely that home Premim would do perfectly well, unless your friend has specific programs that require a higher edition.

  • When right-clicking on a link and a window opens, I want it ask me "Open Link in New Window" first of all, not the second. This has changed in the last update.

So I got allows you to right-click on a link and go the first option and open this link in a new window.
I don't not like tabs, or use them.
The latest update or version of Firefox has changed this and now
Open the link in a new tab first, then
Open the link in a new window.
My question is, how can I change this back to the way it was.
    Thank you very much
    TREV

My problem is the opposite of the OP, but the result is the same. Years of the use of previous versions of Firefox have conditioned me to open links in a new tab by selecting the second choice of right click menu without looking. After a week of trying to readjust in places reversed 'Open link in a new window' and "Open link in a new tab", I'm always unintentionally opening new windows instead of tabs every time after time. The point is, why should I have to adjust (or need a plugin external to solve your problem). YOU TEACHES ME HOW to DO THIS WAY, then why you changed it? Do you think that the reversal is most effective? A task force of new users select the new range? Do you have a taste of trial with Pepsi? Have you adopted Microsoft 'we know what you want better than you' policy? People in the drive of England on the left side of the road with the steering wheel on the right. Maybe it's actually a better way to do it. Maybe we should just rethink all cars new American model in this way and reverse all the signs from one day to the next without any warning - no ads, no choice, do it just because the engineers decided that it is better. While we're here, maybe you should adopt menu 'Ribbon' of MS then. I do sound a little angry or like if I have too much time on my hands? If so, it is because I am and I do not have enough to relearn the same tasks whenever you think of a better way to perform a basic operation. I'm sick of being 'improved' perfectly feasible programs to offers no improvement, only the need for a conversion.

    Hello

If you have a product key on a sticker in your computer, this means that you have an OEM product key. If you have OEM keys, this means that the windows you have here is preinstalled.

If you reinstall windows OEM copy, you must use either the original manufacturer recovery disk or the recovery partition. If you use one of the people, should not be put to any start-up because the windows OEM versions are technically preactivated.

If you don't have a disc or a recovery partition, you can contact your OEM (DELL) so that they can send you a disk. Alternatively, you can contact Microsoft Support just in case. : D

  • Can I reuse the key of Windows 7 Professional?

    Hey,.

Been using Windows 7 for a few months now and I must say, im absolutely love it.
The other day, while visiting some dubious sites offering a video converter, I got a virus.
Now, I tried AVG and an anti-spyware program, and both can detect the virus but not effectively deal with it.
I find myself with a frustrating user experience which includes Windows crashes, a lot of notifications and general performance slowdown, on what is a fast laptop. I'm tired of trying to patch up things and think that the best method would be to format the HARD drive and reinstall Windows.
Now, my question is, when I reinstall Windows, my product key will be reusable?
I picked up my copy of Windows 7 on the offer of £30 student and am concerned about the use of the license.
Like what I do, can I disable Windows somehow, then reinstall it just use the same key?
Someone at - it advice on the system would work?
    Thank you.

    Hello

Product key Windows 7 (license) is constant, it never expires. You can reuse the key as many times as you want, as long as the operating system is installed on a single computer at a time.

The student version of Windows 7 is the retail version upgrade. You will need to perform the installation in the same way that you did when you originally installed it.

The product key that you used to activate the first installation is maintained on Microsoft Activation servers. After the reinstallation, you may need to perform a manual activation, which means that you may need to use the phone option when you activate. Here are the instructions for a manual activation.

    1. from the desktop, press the button of the Windows Logo + R. This will bring up the run dialog box.

    2. in the Open: box, type slui 4 and press OK. This starts the manual activation wizard.

3 select your country from the drop down and click Next.

    4. the wizard displays a toll-free telephone number. Leave the wizard open on the computer and call this phone number.

You will receive a few saved options. Select the option to speak to a representative.

The representative will manually activate this system for you.

  • Windows log has stopped working because of the automatic updates installed today

I'm assuming that this patch may have caused the problem because it just came out this week.   "MS14-038 addresses a vulnerability in Windows Journal; the patch ends a reported hole in confidence in all the supported versions of Microsoft Windows, from Vista to Windows 8.1. »

I tried all the possible solutions I found on the internet without success.  I need this software on a daily basis for my work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I'm running Windows 7 on a HP Elitebook 2730P

I have to keep the following updates, uninstalled so that the newspaper to work as it should:

    KB2971850

    KB2976627

    KB2975719

Whenever a new security update is out, I have to check if it screws with newspaper.  This is ridiculous.  It is clear that they are progressively Journal to OneNote (which is a very bad idea that OneNote is a replacement of lower table).

  • The keys Home and end no longer work when I enlarge the program window

As I'm editing, I often use the 'home' and 'end' keys on my keyboard extended to the beginning of the sequence, that I'm editing, or to jump to the end (I use the "home" button more often, but I always use 'end' from time to time).

This behavior works as I expect when I have the window of editing 'active' (by clicking on it). The behavior works even when the program window is active, which is very useful. (And because the source window has a different content, I'm not surprised that it interprets the keys start and end for this image, which is also useful also.)

The problem for me arises when I want to watch my full screen in the sequence and use the key to accent grave ('), alias the tilda (~), in order to maximize the window of my program. Now my image fills the screen and I can watch my sequence down to maximum resolution. But when I get to the end and want to come back at the beginning, the 'home' key does not work. I have to shrink the window until the key will bring back me at the beginning of the sequence.

This bothered me for so long that I was editing in first, but I have never taken the time to see if anyone has a solution to this problem. Does anyone know how to make this work because I expect to? If having a keyboard shortcut to the beginning of the sequence is useful when you work with a screen that shows all the windows, the keyboard shortcut would be even more useful when you do not see what you are doing?

Is this a bug? Can I ask it as a feature in the next update? Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

Activate the program monitor before switching to fullscreen (~).

  • Unexpected Windows 7 Pro Message on encryption of files, asking Me to back up the encryption key and password

Have a desktop HP 590 t 2 - months old, Win 7 Pro 64-bit running.  Two days ago, I received an unexpected pop-up Windows message, saying something like "Files EFS in Windows."  When I click on it, I get 3 options:

1 certificate of encryption and the emergency key and create the password
    2 ask me later
    3. do nothing... If you don't back up your key and the password, you will not be able to access the files.

What is strange, is that I did nothing (that I know) which would cause no files to encrypt.  I don't know yet what it is, other than what I read in the help Windows.  I called HP Tech Support, they advised me to choose "REMIND ME LATER", that's what I selected.

After that I turned the computer off yesterday morning, then turned it back last night, I had the same command prompt.  But he appeared at the start, then went off on his own.  I did have to choose anything.

Since it is a new computer, I was installing software, but legitimate all software, such as Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Dreamweaver, etc..

    Here are my questions:

1 - is Windows, or could some software I have installed, start encrypting files ON it's OWN?  I thought files could only be encrypted if I expressly and explicitly started encryption of files.

    2. is there a say if all the files on my computer are encrypted?

3 is it normal that Windows prompts you on file encryption, after so many weeks or months of use?

    4. is there a way to get Windows to stop for prompting me on this subject?

I read another post where someone said the same thing.  'Out of the blue", they got the same message, I did it.  There was no response to this post.  Appreciate any advice on what it means.  Thank you

    Ezgoin

Thanks for the tips.  I think I may know what it is.  It could be the edition of SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer, I had installed recently.  Apparently, it encrypts certain files as part of its operation.  I read where it makes the encryption/decryption of files in real time.  I hope it's something 'internal' for SQL Server and will not affect anything else on my PC.  I use SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP for 10 years and has never seen this message.  Was only my PC Win7 64 bit for 2 months, so am always install software.

If the OS Win7 can be noticed this and simply prompting me for a key.  I don't know if I should get just a key/password or not, just to be safe.

But the message popped up when I used an option in a program to copy files to an external flash drive.  I checked, and none of the files on the flash drive, or in the folder root of the program on the desktop are encrypted.  So the time the message appeared might be a coincidence, as the copy of files from the flash drive.

So far, everything works OK and have only seen the message once more, when I restarted Friday, then the message disappeared on its own.  Have not restarted since then but little time.

If he continues to appear, will try your suggestion.  Thank you very much

    Ezgoin
