Windows 7 icons generic vs photos
Until a few days ago my Windows 7 has been posting large icons in the form of images of my SIN. Now, it's to show them as generic icons. This does not work for me because I have thousands of photos in hundreds of files I need to look at a glance before opening. Can you tell me why is this happening all of a sudden, and how it can be fixed. I read all the forums 2010-boxes, present and uncontrolled and deleted thumbs etc. but nothing helps. That's what I have on very large icons. Help, please!

Windows 7, I get icons instead of photos on the photos
I have two programs 'Cricut Design Studio' and "4 D embroidery system" both of which show the program icon to the thumbnail instead of the thumbnail image itself. I spent 4 hours on the phone with HP support yesterday (since my copy of Windows 7 is an OEM product) - they were unable to correct the problem. I encounter this same problem on my new desk that has Windows 7 on it. I tried all the usual bugs - eg. in folder options always unchecking "show icons not thumbnails" and both checking and unchecking "Display the file on the photos icon" - also in the control panel under advanced system, system, Advanced tab settings, settings of Preformance, make sure the 'show thumbnails instead of icons' is checked.
I have XP on my old desktop computer - program icons display the photos on the thumbnails correctly on this computer.
I can load these files on a USB stick, plug this jump in my Windows 7, and the files on the jump show thumbnails correctly. If I transfer the files on computers with Windows 7 on them, they become icons of the program (instead of photos of the file). In Windows 7, I have all the updates, and both programs I can't see pictures on the thumbnails have the latest updates also and are fully compatible with Windows 7.
It is a real problem for me because I work with these files (more than 10,000 of them) every day. Many file names are numbers only, so without the pictures, I can't say which file to open. Help, please! The size of the icon file must be medium or large for the thumbnails to display. Small icons won't show generic thumbnail of the thw.
There must be also installed codecs to generate thumbnails for file types.

After loading the photos from my camera CF card, all of the icons in the photo folder had a green square (rounded corners) with a check mark in the place. How can I get rid of these green squares? Tonight I loaded photos on a flash drive, and they had blue squares, covering part of the icons with > in the blue boxes. I would like to get rid of these also.

photos, pictures are icons instead of photos. How to fix?
When I write e-mail using WIndows Mail and to include photos, I choose Insert, file - and then the file opens with all these pictures. I see small thumbnails to know what image I want to send. I do not know what setting changed, but now when I look at the files, they are not thumbnails of my photos, but just the photo number and the icon (of any program is defined by default for images). Should what setting I change to recover my thumb nails? Thank you.
Miniatures,
(1) open your my pictures location, click on organize in the upper left corner, click folder and search options, click the view tab and uncheck the top option, always display icons and never thumbnails, select apply and save.
(2) return to your location of my pictures, change the display of the page on the top of the right side next to the question mark symbol, there is another symbol with a menu drop-down symbol, click it and select the medium or large icons options specified.
Once in the browser of the attachment, you may need to repeat (2) on the display of the page.

Hello
1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?
Follow these steps and check if they help.
Step 1:
I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.
a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
Explorer.exed. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.
Step 2:
Test the issue in a new user account.

Windows Defender icon in the Notification area
Hello.
Yes, I chose the "Always" button for the Windows Defender icon appear in the notification area. : o).
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2
Internet browser: IE8.0.6001.18783
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1600.0
Engine version: 1.1.4803.0
Definition Version: 1.61.1700.0
Internet Security Suite: ZoneAlarm 8.0.400.020.This icon has disappeared a long time ago and I don't do that now something to this subject. I think that Windows Defender actually starts and runs in the background on boot-up top (I could be wrong here) but the icon does not appear in the system tray and MSASCui.exe does not appear in the processes tab unless I manually start Windows Defender after each reboot.
Any assistance in obtaining the Windows Defender icon to always appear in the system tray after every reboot will be greatly appreciated.
I thank in advance.
