Windows 7: VMWare Workstation with XP as a guest.  Problem with SP2.

On a computer with XP virtual on, I am trying to run SP2.  SP2 is in a file to the host.  SP2 is not XP and trying to change Windows 7.  It fails.  I do not want to load the workstation tools up to what XP SP2.  Maybe I missed something in the manual (excellent!). Solution?

Without VMware tools, the easiest way would be to create an ISO image that contains SP2 (or better SP3) and transfer this as a CD-ROM drive to the XP VM.

  • Windows under Vmware Workstation 7 8

    Hello

With Vmware Workstation 8, can I create a virtual machine in which I could you Installer Windows 7?

Thanks in advance if anyone has any experience of this.

    Kind regards

Yes, sure, no problem. And if you go on the Compatibility Guide ( http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility ), you're looking for in the guest operating system section, pay the proceeds Workstation with Windows 7 as OS name of family, you will find that Windows 7 and SP1, 32-bit or 64-bit are supported on WS 8.0. Also, if you create a new virtual machine, you can choose Windows 7 as guest operating system. It is the proof that it works.

  • ESXi on VMWare Workstation with widows 2008 comments

    Hello

I am about to begin a new deployment and I tested some things before that I have shell out money for new equipment and software.

I tested Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit on VMWare Workstation and everything is good.  My VMWare Workstation is on Win 7 64 bit

Ultimately, this equipment will run on ESX, vSphere Essentials through.   To test this, I installed ESXi 4 Update 1 inside VMWare Workstation.

Because the vSphere client is not supported on Windows 7, I installed the Client vSphere on Win XP 32 bit inside another guest of VMWare Workstation.

During the installation of Windows 2008 R2 64-bit on ESXi, via vSphere on XP, I get the following error

Trying to load a 64-bit application, however this CPU in is not compatible with the 64-bit mode.

Well, I know that my cpu is 64-bit capable, because I'm already under 64-bit so much already.

It worries me a bit, because I wasn't expecting this obstacle - my test was to validate a number of other things, not this and now I think I might switch to Hyper-V.

I already searched the forums, and from what I found, nothing has solved the problem yet

However, there could be a saving grace - could the fact that I'm under esxi in vmware workstation cause this problem?

    Paul

    You're out of luck.

You cannot run 64-bit inside a virtual ESX clients.

Nested VMs have no VT support, you need to run a 64-bit client

  • Guest OS VMware Workstation with NAT cannot communicate with the host

I often run VMware Workstation on an Ubuntu Linux box and the load of virtual machines inside.

The default is to configure a network card for the NAT, but that NEVER works, I have never no connectivity to the physical network in my guest operating system until I have change the type of the virtual machine network adapter for bridged.

However, when I install ESXi 4.1 as a VM bridged, he can see the physical network, but VMs decked inside it can not...  I think that if I am NAT to work he'd let me withdraw my guest as oses nested inside BONE that is a host... If this is meaningless to anyone at all network connectivity prompt.

I could really use help figure this.  I was hitting my head for weeks and led to nothing.

If you do not know which IP address to use in the case of NAT, I recommend you temporarily enable DHCP on the Windows 7 host and then run "ipconfig/all" to see what it looks like. To configure the IP settings manually, make a note of the settings and set the IP address of one outside the range NAT NETWORK.

  • Is there a way to hide the menu in windowed mode VMware Workstation 8 bar?

While in windowed mode is there a way to hide the menu bar on a crowd of Win7?  This menu bar is absolutely huge (about 2 x as large as it should be!) so I was wondering if it was possible to get rid of it?  I know it was possible in older versions, because I found some guides on how to do it.  These guides apply to Workstation 8.  I don't want to use the unit because it's too hard to keep the instances of BONE separate and organized in a meaningful way.

If any VMware staff are reading this, I would recommend that VMware uses a menu bar of title as Firefox 8 on Windows 7.  With the little drop down menu built into the title bar of the window instead of a space hogging the menu bar stretched all the way in all top of the window.  Or at least implement a combination of keys in option show/hide the menu bar. Please?

  • VMware Workstation with ESX3.5u4 - problems with the virtual machines within ESX3.5u4

    Hello world

I really need a consultation on this one:

    I'm testing ESX3.5.

As I don't want to buy any material for now I thought it would be a good idea to test ESX3.5 in my computer.

I used this model to install ESX3.5 in my computer: http://xtravirt.com/node/100

    ESX3.5 works perfektly in workstation.

The only problem is that if I create a computer virtual within the VM ESX3.5 works very very slow.

I searched on the VMware Forum for this problem and found that you need Intel VT enabled to speed things up.

But I think that my "Intel (r) Core (TM) 2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50 GHz, 2000 MHz" should have Intel VT.

Does anyone have any ideas why my VMs on esx3.5 within the short slow workstation?

Thank you all in advance for the help!

    Material used:

    ASUS P5B

    Intel Quad Core Q9300

    3 GB RAM

    Intel PRO/100 S-Serveradapter Ethernet

According to your log file, the external VM using VT - x.  I'm afraid, it's as fast as your nested VMS are going to get.  While I would qualify as slow or even nested VM performance very slow, I'm not sure I'd go so far as "very very slow."  It is perhaps a matter of perception.

  • Update Windows 10 November (10586 aka 1511): bcdedit/set hypervisorlaunchtype off, but VMware Workstation does not start VMs with conflict of Hyper-V

    Hi all

I upgraded from Windows 10 Windows 10 November updated this morning.

I have the Hyper-V role is installed and use it from time to time, but bcdedit to configure the boot loader to disable Hyper-V by hypervisorlaunchtype power off.

This technique has worked with 10 Windows and VMware Workstation and I could start and run virtual machines

Since I did the upgrade, I can't start VM with this standard message "VMware Workstation and Hyper-V are not compatible"

I am running VMware Workstation 10, but suspect that this problem also exists with later versions.

    Everyone knows about this problem?

Someone at - he found a solution?

I'm willing to fork over $150 for 12 workstations to solve this problem, but I want to know with certainty that it is circumventing my problem.

    Thanks for that.

Uninstallation and reinstallation of the hyper-v feature, following the upgrade of Windows Windows 10 November 10 update solved the problem.

I still need to run the following command to disable the Hyper-V technology

    bcdedit/set hypervisorlaunchtype

Thanks to everyone for their help.

  • I have a problem starting up a Windows XP Pro Machine virtual Windows 8 host system (which has VMware Workstation 10.1).

I am new to the virtual machines.  For several months I've been running a Windows XP Virtual Machine in an old machine of Windows 7 with VMware Workstation 7.0.  The hard drive is having some problems at times, so I thought that I could move the virtual machine on a new computer that has an OS 8.1 Windows and VMware Workstation 10.  For example, on the Windows 7 machine, I copied the directory with all the * .vm files and pasted into the machine to Windows 8. But when I tried to start VMware Workstation 10 in Windows 8 machine, I got the message "this virtual machine policies are too old to be run by this version of VMware."  I went to the knowledge base and used the solution described here: I've deleted the lines of three 'policy' of the .vmx file and added the suffix .ancien to the .vmpl file, which actually disabled.  Now, when I try to start the virtual machine, the black screen appears with the VMware logo in the Center and everything seems fine, but Windows XP starts.  And logo VMware guard churning away as in a continuous loop.  It is not easy to stop.  The only way to stop VMware is via the Task Manager or restart the machine.

What must I do to get the Windows XP Pro VM to run in the new machine?

VMWare technical support suggested that I have disable 3D acceleration (VM > settings > view and uncheck the box 3D graphics acceleration).  The virtual machine starts now with some minor problems, but it is usable.  But by closing accel 3D turns, in the words of the Technical Support Engineer, David, that there is "a problem with the graphics card not imitate or through its capacity to the virtual machine.  In other words do not support to the VM guest 3D acceleration. "My next step is to make sure that I have the updated driver for the Intel HD Graphics 4600 display adapter.

    Minor problems are:

    (1) the virtual machine works best in screen mode reduced.  There are a few problems speed mode full-screen.

    (2) the VM will still work after switching on of the host.  But after execution of the virtual machine, if power you the virtual machine and the release of VMware workstation, then later, start the workstation, the virtual machine will power not.

To turn it on again you must out of VMware Workstation, disconnect the host machine and then reopen it in one.

  • Cannot install VMWare Workstation 8 on Windows 7

    Hello

Here we have a serious problem.

    We are trying to install the current version of VMWareWS8 (VMware-workstation-full - 8.0.1 - 528992) on windows 7 (acer aspire X 3990).

During the installation process, an error: impossible to retrieve the installation path

Error 1314. The specified path %COMMON_DOCUMENTS%\Shared computers virtual is not available

followed by an another popup to error:

    The MSI 'C:\Users\dafunker\AppData\Local\Temp\vmware_1326209137\vmware workstation.msi' failed

Error 1314. The specified path %COMMON_DOCUMENTS%\Shared computers virtual is not available

We have successfully installed the same version of VMWare on the same model of computer (acer aspire X 3990) on windows 7 too, it worked like a charm (even without 'COMMON_DOCUMENTS' set env variable).

    I tried different things:

    -no firewall, no antivirus

    -run as administrator

-define a valid common env var documents

None of these things have been successful.

The newspaper vminstall is attached to this post

    Thank you for the help

    Hello and welcome

    I'll try this...
    Open regedit as an administrator
find the key VMware, Inc. - on 32-bit hosts which is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.
    It has a subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\Installer\VMware workstation
with a DATASTORE_PATH subkey that uses a value like "G:\\shared-vms".

If you set to a path that fits your needs, the installation can run.

While you're there... Check the permissions on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.
VMware Workstation installers like to mess up the permissions for this key
