Windows 7 Windows is low on memory

Hi, I'm running A Dell Inspiron laptop. Pentium CPU at 2.20 Ghz with 3 GB of Ram. Operating system is Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit with service pack 1. These last two days I get the error warning "Windows is low on memory." I looked at the performance tab in the Task Manager and even with closed programs, memory was raised near 97%. I tried to change the page file size which I do not know if I did it with the correct parameters. I also tried to uninstall programs to free up space on the hard disk. I tried safe mode with network and memory in the corresponding mode was only 27% I am trying to register all relevant information. I always face the problem though. I can't afford to support. Can someone advise me please what to do to get more virtual memory? What steps to take? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's a lot to support a good swap file. I suggest that you set to allow Windows to manage the size, especially if you do not know how else better to adjust.

With a proper file error is rare. This may indicate a problem program consumes excessive RAM or malware problem.  I suggest that you look at the processes tab in the Task Manager first. Sort on the column of the memory.  What are the rare albums?

Also, check your computer for malware.  In addition to your antivirus program I suggest you run these good free programs.

I did research on the various search engines to know that many face the same problem, with a variety of possible solutions, but so far, none work.  We suggest that I go to Regedit and change the permissions of the user and then delete the old files, after I import them.

Needless to say, I am just a user and have just a bit of technical knowledge.  The local PC repair shop in my town has no idea what to do.  For anyone who has a solution to this problem, help will be greatly appreciated!

First of all, unless you know EXACTLY what you do and WHY you do it. I personally recommend never do anything in regedit. I consider myself a moderate to advanced computer user and a moderate user of windows. And I always stay away from regedit, if I can, because you can seriously screw things if you don't know what you're doing... Although, to be honest most of the settings will not have a devastating drama.

It seems to me that this is a memory leak in the program, you will get this error message to make sure that your computer will just crash, because if she is running out of RAM... Well it will crash.

If you have a 2 and a 1 GB for a total of 3 GB, I recommend the upgrade once more and just round up to a nice 4 (this is the most of memory a 32-bit system can handle in total)

Works of memory in a way that you see really only a few performance jump with memory dual channel, the only way to have that is really striking the rods of same in each slot.

There isn't really a reason that this happens every time, except that simply your computer is low on MEMORY, when your computer says this means RAM, not disk memory storage area.

If you clean your computer of the programs you never use and stop using windows media player (itunes is better in my opinion, even if you don't have an ipod), you can see an improvement, but to really isolate the problem, I recommend simply opening your task manager as soon as you start your computer (ctrl + alt + delete usually gives you the option or it opens directly) otherwise you can do start-> RUN taskmgr.exe , OR type taskmgr.exe in the search box and press on enter.

Then, look at the column of memory as I said it sounds like a program has a leak, and you will see that is because memory will begin at low/normal and then numbers just keep climbing...

Also, make sure that your computer recognizes all 3 GB or RAM. in Task Manager if you have access to the performance tab, under physical memory must be a thing called Total, 3 GB = 3074. If this is not an option in your reason, you can go under Accessories/System Tools system information (on the start menu). (may take a while to load) but on the home page, you should see something that indicates the amount of TOTAL PHYSICAL MEMORY. You want to read this / 3GB or 3074 MB.

    Hope this helps some!

I recommend to remove all programs, you are ready to, especially those that you never use. Do a complete uninstall. Then start installing windows clean (download google) just to make sure that the program has been removed. then go start--> run msconfig OR just type msconfig in the search and click on go (I don't know if you're running XP or Vista/7)

In the msconfig dialog, you should see a section that says startup. Don't forget to remove programs that you do not first. Disable startup programs, you use every DAY. Don't go turn off all if windows needs some process to run, and some processes don't effect anything. But if you're curious, you should be able to google all of startup items and see what it's related to and why you do or that you don't need.

Good luck! Sorry, I'm everywhere with this response.

  • My PC is always low virtual memory. Why does.

Even when my PC does not all open programs, I still have a warning box will appear to tell me that windows is low on virtual memory.

I run XP home edition 2004.

I recently xferred my photo + music files to an external hard drive, but I still tell me that memory is low!

What is the cause + I can do anything to put this right?

Explorer is too slow and often egg or begins to force me to use the Task Manager to close the program does not. Is this related to this memory problem?

    Two points:

    1. What are you describe is a function of two or three of the following:
    (a) who is not enough of physical memory (also called RAM)
    (b) too many programs and processes running (perhaps due to a malware infection)
    (c) incorrect virtual memory configuration
    2. you're confused memory and hard disk space when you say "I recently xferred my photo + music files to a drive external hard but I said always not the memory is low!
    This page explains the difference:
Getting back to your question, you must help us! You need to tell us what you have. Are the following:
-brand, model and model number of your PC
    -SP level
    -amount of RAM
If you are unsure, do a click right my computer and select Properties. Only necessary information should already be showing under the general tab to keep this window open for more later...
    -virtual memory setting
To do this, click on the Advanced System Properties window already open tab. Under performance, click settings. In the new performance Options window, click the Advanced tab. Under virtual memory, this figure is listed as the "Total paging file size for all drives"? Then click the button change.
Assuming that C: drive is highlighted, I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts that a custom size is activated (in general, which is not a good idea!). Out of curiosity, what are these two values?
To make life a LOT easier, click on "System managed size". Then click on the Set button. Then click on the OK button. Then click on other buttons OK. Reset.
If you click on the size of the managed system, you must stop to get these annoying messages. (But your work isn't always more. You need see if you have enough RAM, or if there is something on your PC, hogging memory).
-size of the drive C: and the amount of free space available
To do this, double-click my computer. Click view on the menu bar, and then select Details. Under "Drives", what are the values of the size total and free space on C:?
-Tell us what antivirus or suite program you use. Is up to date?
-tell us if you ALL post-SP3 (assuming you have SP3!) security updates installed or not
-We say users of memory of the top 10 in the Task Manager
To do this, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, click on the processes tab click on use of Mem. Click again. (This will give you the biggest users of memory above.) What are the processes of ten albums? And what are the values according to the uses of Mem for each of them?
Manager tasks of maintaining open, click on the performance tab. Then the three values under Commit Charge (k) Note: in the lower left corner: Total, limit and peak.

The Total number represents the amount of memory you are using right now. The vertex figure represents the maximum amount of memory you made since the last boot. If these figures are lower than the value of the amount of physical memory (K), then you probably have lots of RAM. (But I doubt that you do!) Tell us about these figures.

As soon as we have the above information, we will have an idea what your situation is.

Since it's always a good idea to rule out malware (as malware uses a lot of memory, among other things!), you must do the following:

First, run the portable Analyzer of SAS:

    http://www.SUPERAntiSpyware.com/portablescanner.html

Then, run the version FREE of MBAM (not the version pro or trial!):

    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
