Windows 8 & Console

Hello world

I have a little problem since windows 8.

I have 3 servers ESXI 5.0. I saw this console in vsphere client 5.0 may not work on windows 8. So I installed VGC (Vmware Guest Console). Everything works great!

But I installed a fourth server ESXI 5.1. I installed the 5.1 vsphere client. Console works now in vsphere client but only on ESXI 5.1, not 5.0 with the message «VMRC console has disconnected...» »

The VGC, VM Console does not work on ESXI 5.1 with the message: "unable to connect to the MKS: internal error. All VM Console on the work of ESXI 5.0...

Can you help me?

Thank you very much

  • Try to resize a window of console VM to VIC

I'm under ESX3i and connect to my virtual machines with VMware Infrastructure

I select a VM to VIC and click on the launch of Virtual Machine Console.

I then resize the window of console for one more big size, then click on the "see - & gt; Menu item fit Guest now.

I get the error "Resolution not supported for comments - cannot resize the comments resolution to match the size of the window."

As far as I can tell, I have the latest VMware tools on the VM images,

Worse still, in virtual machines, if I go into the display properties of Windows, I

    Any ideas?

RDP is not the size of the console is limited  Use RDP to connect to servers and/or client XP, and you can have the size as needed.  The console is not necesarilly designed for big screen, because it is limited in buffer size to 4 MB.  Others have managed to increase this limit, see here: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/90634

  • installation of Windows Recovery console: an ident.cab download unsigned

    Hi all
I am trying to install on a XP Home Edition Recovery Console (SP3, all updates, Italian version, so I'll try to translate the error messages) from a CD XP Home SP2.
I type: \i386\winnt32.exe cmdcons and install prgram said that the installed version of XP is newer than the one on the CD and restart the CD. I click 'OK', and then install Windows says however that it can install the console recovery as boot option and asks me if I want to. I say yes, and a "dynamic update" Windows Installer starts, trying to connect to the "Microsoft Web Site". Then an error of a 'Stub' Downloader window says he's trying to download ident.cab, but the file is not singed. I have not found any description of this procedure on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654 and related pages, but it still seems very reasonable, but the unsigned file seems a little strange to me. Can enybody confirm that everything is ok, or someone can tell me or the other way to verify that the file is the right one, o where to find an appropriate recovery console installation package that works with my XP?

    Thanks in advance

Why not take your CD XP Home SP2, SP3 inside "wake" and create a new XP Home SP3 CD.  Then put your XP Home SP2 CD on the tray or use and some other old records to create an attractive mobile.

Creating a new installation of SP3 CD will be good for a few reasons...

You will find yourself with an installation CD XP Home SP3 'nine' that you sometimes in the future if your system will not start, or you want to replace some files.  Yous SP2 CD may not be too useful for you on an SP3 system - if your system never breaks, you're going to need an SP3 installation CD (and you can do it yourself).

You will then be able to install the new your installation CD XP Home SP3 Recovery Console.

Here is a set of instructions on how to slipstream SP3 to create a new installation CD:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/slipstreaming-Windows-XP-to-create-bootable-CD/

These instructions will work first time if you follow them exactly, but you may be wasting a CD or two in the process for the practice (use it in your mobile phone).  You can use google to look for something like:

    Slipstream SP3

.. .to find other instructions from other sources.

I recommend that you do not delete it. Recovery Console can be very helpful in situations where you have errors in the file. It works essentially as a back-up allows to replace the files and fix some errors. You can change the amount of time boot options at startup, which speeds up the overall starting your computer. I have mine at 5 seconds. I know what I want to do before I turn on the computer and therefore do not need the options for the default value of 30 seconds.

I know there are a lot of forums tech that allows you to install Combo instruct. Personally I would never put that on my computer. I've seen too many problems to evolve from it in the past.

  • Message in the Windows Recovery Console

When I get on the C driveI fixmbr will get the message "computer seems to have a MBR atypical or invalid.»
Fix MBR can damage your partition tables if you proceed. This could cause all partitions on the current hard disk to become inaccessible. I ran fixboot, but this message persists with fixmbr. I had a nasty malware attack and analyses and fixboot seemed to help but this still happens. Is there a danger here? PC does not start correctly. Under XP Home HP desktop computer.

    Hi Walter Hardison,.

    -The fixmbr command works correctly?

The fixmbr command causes this error message to display on your computer every time that you run the command, regardless of the State of the Master Boot Record (MBR).

After running the command fixmbr , your computer displays or not the command worked properly. If the command was successful, your computer displays the following message:

New to writing on the physical disk's master boot record
    \Device\Harddisk0\Partition0.
The new master boot record has been written successfully.

If you receive this message, you can ignore the error message you mentioned.
  • After reduction of the console window, cannot restore it. vSphere 5.5

This seems to be an ongoing problem with the vsphere (not the web client) client. I saw him on each of the computers that over the past years, I have used the vsphere client. The problem that, after opening a window of console to a virtual computer, if I minimize this window of the console and then try to unminimize to return, it usually stays hidden. The only way I can get back to it is to close the console window and then click on "open the console". Not a big problem but it's a little frustrating. Does anyone know a fix for this or vmware plans to release a fix?

    Thank you

This is a known issue as shown here: VMware KB: impossible to expand the virtual machine console window after it has been reduced to the Windows taskbar

    Here is the workaround:

To work around this problem, do one of the following options:

    • Deselect the option to group similar taskbar buttons:

    1. on the Windows system running the vSphere Client, right-click the Windows taskbar, and then click Properties.

2 clear the Group similar taskbar buttons.

Note: In Windows 7, it is a drop-down list called the taskbar buttons. In the drop-down list, select never combine.

    3. click apply > OK.

  • Cannot start the Recovery Console Windows from the installation CD

On my MacBook I ve running in VMware Fusion 3.0.1 a Virtual Machine with Win XP Pro.

When I reboot Win XP Pro and start again from the Windows XP Pro installation CD, I can see the "Welcome" with the menu screen

-To install Win XP now, press ENTER

-To repair an installation of Windows XP using the Recovery Console, press r.

When I click ENTER or R, I see the message

Wow, nothing indicates that you use a German version of Fusion that your English is excellent.  Anyway as VMware headquarters is in the United States, like me, I always provide information in English and information-specific guidelines in the VMware Fusion help files come from the English version as well as any Documentation from VMware that I reference.  I say this next part as a general and not directed comment towards you, as you have noted your using the German version... Any person requesting help must always at least include technical information referencing manufacture, make, model, version, and language other then English, material goods and software involved in issues.  We'll find a good reference for the type of information that must always be included in HOWTO: ask (and answer) Questions.

As a much get into the BIOS if you use the Fusion 3, you don't need to enter the BIOS to change the boot device as this can be done in the settings now however to enter the BIOS for other things that need/want of press you F2 directly after starting the Virtual Machine and after having clicked on the screen but the av VM boot so fast that it's easily missed.  You can add the following settings to the file of configuration .vmx of the Virtual Machine to slow down the startup so that force once in the BIOS.

    bios.bootDelay = "3000"
    bios.forceSetupOnce = "TRUE"

The bios.bootDelay is in milliseconds and the bios.forceSetupOnce Boolean value is then set to FALSE, automatically.  Each of these parameters are independent of each other.

Notes: Creating an ISO Image of the CD/DVD drive

When you use utility disk in order to have a bootable ISO Image, you must select Master CD/DVD without encryption in which case by default, it will have an extension .cdr file and in version 1.1 of the merger and later does not need to be changed in .iso, although one can if one chooses to. A default .dmg image is compressed and is not bootable, as an uncompressed .dmg will start if changed in .iso and of course the source CD/DVD should be bootable in the first place.

To create an ISO Image using disk utility...

1 insert the CD or DVD disc into the optical drive of your computer.

    2. open disk utility (/ Applications/Utilities/Disk utility).

    3. Select the CD or DVD drive in the list of disks and volumes.

    4. Choose file > new > "Disk Image from (name of the disc)."

    5. type a name for the disk image.

    6. choose "DVD/CD master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.

7 choose "none" from the encryption pop-up menu.

    8. click on save.

If this does not work, you can try using recovery media.

It may be interesting to try windows System Restore as follows.

Shut down the laptop.  Windows system restore is usually better run in Mode without failure.  Tap away at f8 that you start the laptop to enter the Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe mode and press ENTER.  When it has loaded, on the Start Menu, click principally made programs, accessories, click System Tools and run the system restore.  Choose a restore point at least 24 hours before the validation problem occurred, and then do the restore.  When you are finished, Windows will restart normally.
