Windows contacts - import categories in Outlook 2002

I have converted my Outlook 2002 contacts into a CSV file asnd successfully imported to Windows Mail. The problem is that my categories disappeared. I have over two thousand contacts grouped in categories 50 or so different in Outlook - but the contacts appear in "Windows Contacts" not categorized (ie: there is a category "not specified" containing all contacts).  It is too difficult to re - categorize each contact. I suspect that it is a mapping problem in the way that I exported Outlook contacts in the CSV file (actually I have no mapping as such during the export - I ignored the button "custom fields" and got on the export). Can anyone help please? If you can solve this - line-by-line instructions simple would be appreciated my abilities limited geeks! Thank you.

And Windows Mail does not support categories... Yes, it has a column labeled as such, but it does not work.  If you want categories, either get Windows Live Mail, or continue to use Outlook.

    The following versions of Microsoft Outlook are fully supported on Windows 7;

    • Outlook 2003
    • Outlook 2007
    • Outlook 2010 (when it came out)

It is recommended to always update your version of Outlook directly after installation to take care of any question of incompatibility which have been corrected.

    Previous versions
    Another version of Outlook is not supported on Windows 7. Although you may install it, any compatibility issues is not corrected. For example;

    • Outlook 2002/XP works on Windows 7, but it has the same problems remember password when using Windows Vista.
    • Outlook 2000 cannot be installed in Internet Mail Only Mode (IMO) and must be installed in company/workgroup (CW Mode) Mode to prevent a mistake wab.dll.

  • Vista - I have Windows Mail but receive Outlook 2002 update

I received today an Outlook 2002 update... I don't have Outlook 2002, I have Windows Mail. Why have I not this update?

Microsoft Office XP & Office 2002 are essentially the same application.

If Windows Update offers you KB980371, it is assumed that Outlook is installed, even if you can't use it. So yes, KB980371 suits & must be installed.

Otherwise, you can remove your installation of Microsoft Office XP Outlook. Please note that doing so will also remove all Outlook calendar.

How to export data from the .pst file if you want to save only some of your Outlook data, you can create a new backup .pst file only the data you want to save. It is also known under the name of export data from the .pst file. For example, you can use this section if you have important information in some files only and you have other less important elements in many more. You can export only the important files or contacts and omit folders and sent messages.

Follow these steps to export a specific folder:

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. On the file menu, click import and export. If the menu item is not available, rest your pointer over the chevrons at the bottom of the menu, and then click import and export.
    3. Click export to a file, and then click Next.
    4. Click on personal folder (.pst) file , and then click Next.
    5. Click the folder that you want to export the .pst file, and then click Next.
    6. Click Browseand select the location where you want the new .pst file to be saved.
    7. In the file name box, type the name that you want to use for the new .pst file, and then click OK.
    8. Click Finish.

  • How to keep Windows Contacts to update if you use Windows Live Mail... only for iphone

    Dear people of MS,

The guys at tech Windows Live forum helped me as much as they could, but suggested I bring my topic to give you is a question re: Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail (WLM).

Anyway, I had a computer crash on my Vista computer (all data had been backed up fine - it is) but in the meantime I bought a notebook with Windows 7 above. I started to use WL Mail on my new computer and when I finally got my old a return of the boutique (Vista), I downloaded WL Mail so that I would use same program of electronic mail on both computers. It makes sense to me.

However, I have since discovered that when my iphone syncs with my computer, it only picks up the contacts of my Contacts from Windows Messaging folder, and * not * those of my WL Mail one.

Question: what do I do if I want to keep my Windows Mail contacts up to date, ensuring that all new Contacts that I have receipt/get through WLM are also in my Windows Contacts so that when I sync my iphone the iphone is up-to-date with Windows Contacts.

Windows Mail Contacts are so easy to see and then move that WL those who are not. It's horrible!

Can you please help - after reading a lot of posting on the website of Windows Live, I'm assuming that I need to import the WL Contacts in Contacts in Windows Messaging is that correct? Is there anything else I should know or should do?

    Thank you very much.

    Best,

    Psych :)

    Hey Psych13 and Gary,.

Looks like you two neglected, first paragraph, of Halima. Just to summarize his position, it is not possible to synchronize contacts between Windows Live Mail and Windows Contacts. They don't like each other, there's bad blood there. :)

Assuming that you have different contacts Contacts Windows and your Windows Live Mail, the third link posted Halima will help you to consolidate your contacts in a single application.

And assuming that you need help to set up your iPhone to sync with Windows Live Mail, you can use the fourth link for help.

Let me know if you have any questions!
