What other security programs you have running? Many as MSE, Norton, McAfee, AVG, etc., will stop Windows Defender because they have the same functionality, and having two programs running at the same time and make security the same work can lead to conflicts. This is by design and must be accepted by the user.

Windows Defender does not illuminate. Said he did not need with MS security essential
Asked to click on the link to activate MS Windows Defender. By clicking on the link does nothing. It told me that Windows Defender is not necessary when MS Security Essentials is installed and has probably been disabled. Should I remove Windows Defender and use only Security Essentials. Is this correct?
Hello:
It is true that you no longer need Windows Defender after installing MSE.
However, you do not have to uninstall it. It has in fact been disabled. You can delete all of your shortcuts, if you wish.
Is no longer, you try to run Windows Defender, that's why I recommend you delete your desktop shortcuts and or the menu of the program. Just pretend it isn't there. This isn't hurt anything by remaining installed.

I wanted to use the tools in windows defender to disable programs start, but when I click it a window appears and says windows defender is disabled. and there are blue letters that say start and defender of open windows, when I click on that nothing happens and the window hangs there for a few seconds. Other spyware or security programs prevent Defender windows open or marketing?
If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.
Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and should automatically disable the version of Vista in Windows Defender.
If it's not:

Turn Windows Defender on or off the information on the link above of Microsoft.
Hope the above explains the common compatibility issues with Windows Defender and other security programs.

i, m on windows vista 32-bit basic family and I m under IE 9. Windows Defender does not level
Hello
If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.
There is nothing to worry.
Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.
If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):
"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.
Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.
Once modified, click apply and OK.
Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"
.
If you want to have additional protection against malware using the version FREE of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

And for now, change startup Vista programs without using Defender, use one of these methods:

Windows Defender does not work: encounteredan error: 0x800705b4
I can't activated the windows Defender. I get this message:
Windows Defender does not work: encounteredan error: 0x800705b4. This operation returned because the time limit has expired.
What do you use for your antivirus protection? Windows Defender is not necessary if you use AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials, Norton or McAfee. These AV programs have their own antispyware component builtin and allows you to disable Windows Defender by design.

I know? They were removed? How?What anti-virus and anti-spyware programs you have installed? Are
they kept up to date?Be aware that Microsoft Security Essentials and safety
