Hello
read this information on the Defender:
· If you use microsoft security essentials avg avira mcafee norton etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default
the basics of Microsoft security has its own version of windows defender
and other anti-virus programs use their own particular type of application to scan for spyware and malware
It of nothing to worry and is the default action, which is designed for them to do
If the above does not apply to your machine to read the information on the below link on how to disable the windows defender service in vista or make an autostart to enable

I use Windows Security Essentials OK, but Windows Defender is DISABLED and cannot be turned on. What should do?
Windows Defender is part of the Vista operating system. It cannot be uninstalled, nor can you install another fresh copy in the system. This Windows Defender lives and dies with the operating system.
It is called Microsoft Security Essentials, not Windows Security Essentials.
MSE (Microsoft Security Essentilas) is supposed to close Windows Defender.
This is because MSE has his own Defender. Run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts. Therefore, it is normal to find widows Defender NOT enabled if you installed MSE.
You don't have to do a thing. So be.
If you want Windows Defender turned on because you want to access with the startup programs, here's another way without using Windows Defender...
Start button in the search box, type msconfig... Enter... click on start up tab... Here is the list of your startup programs.

Windows Defender is disabled whenever I turn on my computer. setting has been activated automatically, but a message "windows defender is disabled" keep appearing one whenever I click on it. Help, please. Thank you!
If you have Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG installed, you don't have to do a thing. These 2 are supposed to disable Windows Defender, because they have their own "defender". Running two defenders would conflict on the other and redundant.
If you have not installed 2 above. Try this...
Start bittun > in the search box, type services > press ENTER > uac prompt > scroll down and look for Windows Defender...
under the State ; It must be said Started
under Startup type : must say automatic
If this isn't the case, right click on Windows Defender > properties >
under the change of automatic startup type to
under service status to start editing
Click OK.t-4-2

Windows Defender appears each time computer is turned on
Everytime I turn on my computer windows defender appears saying that it is turned off. Windows Defender, I opened and he was selected to be marketed. So I checked the box that said turn on windows Defender but whenever I have turn off the computer or restart it, it says that windows defender is stopped. Why this is happening and what can do?
Hi Babyblues221,
From your description, it seems plausible that another program can be disable Windows Defender. You use a different type of antivirus/security software? These are often the causes of Windows Defender turned off. You can try a "clean boot" to verify that it is or is not caused by another application. To check this, reactivate Windows Defender, follow these steps:
To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.
- Click on launch , t
- Type msconfig in the box start looking for and then press ENTER.
- If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
- On the the general tab, click on Selective startup.
- Under Selective startup, turn it off box load startup items.
- Click on the Services tab, select him hide all Microsoft Services check box and then click on Disable all.
- Click on OK.
- When you are prompted, click on restart.
- After the computer starts, start the program or game and see if the problem is resolved.
If Windows Defender is on, there is another program that starts and stops this return. You may need to try to reactivate each non-Microsoft service individually to find the app problem. - Some services may temporarily lose functionality when you perform a clean boot procedure. When you restore the settings, the functionality will be restored. However, the original error message or behavior may return.
- Be aware that if the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from complete the clean boot procedure. You may need to contact the aid system administrator if you cannot perform a clean boot.
I hope this helps!
