Windows Embedded Compact - update Windows 7

Hi all

I'm looking to patch my compact Windows 7 devices shipped with latest from here; Windows patches https://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn205267.aspx

The devices are not on our field (but may be?) I have WSUS, SCCM and manual option. I have read a few forums, but I'm still not sure how to apply these updates.

If I had to choose one of the above, I would choose SCCM as a preferred option because we are looking to support more devices using it.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

  • Windows Embedded Compact 7 on the smartbook Sylvania - IE cannot download files

I have a Sylvania 7 '' Wireless Smartbook WEC7 (http://www.sylvaniacomputers.com/product.php?id_product=45) with the latest firmware, running on Windows Embedded Compact 7. It is produced by a Chinese company that manufactures several similar models, both with Windows Embedded and Android.

Internet Explore cannot download files. It is said "website not found" when I try to download an attachment to email (Gmail, Aol, MS exchange web, etc.), or click on a link that should cause a file download start.

I think it's at the level of the BONE, because I also installed Opera Mini 5.1 Windows mobile, which works well on the machine, and also, it can not download attachments or files.

I also have the earlier version of the Sylvania Smartbook running Windows CE 6 (http://www.sylvaniacomputers.com/product.php?id_product=41). IE and Opera Mini 5.1 work as expected, and download files.

Anyone has an idea why Windows Embedded Compact 7 on the Sylvania is unable to download files?

Basically the user manual has no value, and I'm still something of a computer neophyte. Windows Win CE Prompt / Data Entry apparently are explicit, but I'm not doing things. • Mini laptop Windows CE

need to locate a router for computer usb adapter and wireless laptop windows CE

    Hi Kayr369,

Windows CE (also known officially as Windows Embedded Compact or Windows Embedded CE 6.0 message version [2] [3] and sometimes abbreviated WinCE) is an operating system developed by Microsoft for minimalistic computers and embedded systems. Windows CE is a separate operating system and kernel, rather than a coupe version of the Windows desktop. [4] Microsoft licenses Windows CE for OEMS and device manufacturers.

OEMS and device manufacturers can modify and create their own user interfaces and experiences, while Windows CE provides the basic techniques to do this.

You can contact the OEM or the Mini laptop manufacturer to check for more information on the search for USB adapter and wireless router.

Also, you can access the link below and contact Windows CE Solution Center to help you on this question.

  • Optional updates must be installed and which is an update of certificate root?

original title: Questions about optional updates

I noticed that refer you to the root certificates:

    [quote]
Note: If a root certificates update is listed in the category of optional software updates on the left side of the scan results window, install it to enjoy enhanced Internet Explorer security.
    [/ quote]

Thanks for this info, PA bear. As a general rule, I tend to ignore the "optional" updates I just pulled on custom and nine years ago:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows XP x 86 (KB982670)
Update certificates root [June 2011] (KB931125)
    Update for Windows XP (KB2492386)
Windows PowerShell 2.0 and WinRM 2.0 for Windows XP and Windows Embedded (KB968930)
    Update for Windows XP (KB971513)
Microsoft Base Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider package: x 86 (KB909520)
Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP (KB940157)
    Windows Media Player 11
    Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1

It looks like one of them (KB931125) should I move permanently! Why is - it is considered to be "optional"? Thanks again for bringing it to my attention. You'll notice that I didn't intentionally avoids install Windows Search 4.0 (KB940157), I've seen slow down a good many systems.

Question: Are there other "optional" updates that should really be installed for security reasons? TIA.

[1] why is 'optional' [update of certificate root (KB931125)]?

are [2] there any other "optional" updates that should really be installed for security reasons? TIA.

A1. Can you tell me, so the we know! I had been wondering the same thing for updates of root certificates were first years offered there.

I always thought it had something to do with Win5.x (vs Win6.x) "architecture", because updates root certificates are installed silently in the background in Vista & Win7 (i.e. independent of Windows Update, but not necessarily independent of the "tunnel" Windows Update <=don't> ).

A2. NO! ... especially not the .NET Framework updates, if you know what's good for you, in my humble OPINION. (If you install an application that is based on a version of .NET that is not already installed, the application must install for you by default. Unfortunately, this isn't necessarily the case with some third party applications [e.g., Roxio, IIRC].)

  • vCenter 5.1 U3 "embedded" Windows-> updated to 6.0 not embedded u2, appliances?

Trying to find documentation, but you're not exactly what I'm looking for - in the hope that you just happen to know!

I need to get a system for 6.0 vsphere vcenter u2 with the version of the device of vCenter and the PSC - currently 5.1 U1a with vcenter and components running on a single windows server SSO.

I know (or believe) that I've upgraded to 5.1 U3 before I can move to 6.0 - but I'm not, of course, is if a 5.1 windows U3 can in fact be upgraded to a PSC embedded and vcenter?

I need PSC upgraded to join an already existing domain of vsphere SSO (the existing system is autonomous).

    So is the path:

updated 1) level up to 5.1 U3, then

    (2) upgrade to vcenter/sso embedded device, then

install 3) new embedded device that has been installed in the existing field of vsphere, then

    (4) re-point the vcenter to newly created standards body?

Tips/pointers/traps to know are all appreciated!

I guess that is not easy and medium among the supported options to go to old windows vCenter to newer device via the process of upgrading (we usually upgrades).

You should probably do a migration.

I did something similar here a few months ago - had a Windows 5.1 VC and necessary upgrading to 6.0 device. Only in my case, the unit was supposed to have a built-in COPS. Anyway, after reading a lot of articles of migration, I ended up using the instant fling of the inventory: InventorySnapshot who doesn't have everything, however saved me a few hours of manual steps.

Where you decide to go the same route (which probably isn't the only option), the General steps could be:

    (1) install a new device 6.0 running PSC

    (2) install a new vCenter1 Unit 6.0 running, add it to the domain SSO of PSC, created in step 1)

    (3) to migrate the objects of the inventory of the former vCenter again

The instant fling of the inventory is not migrate / copy everything. AFAIR it cannot do things like tags and distributed switches (I could be wrong on some of these so check back) but in my case, I was more concerned with the structures of folders and for those that he save me a few hours. Don't me remember now how I moved customization specifications, however that was a script to export / import kind of thing as well. I also used RVTools to create a snap of the inventory before the migration information so that I could easily find all objects where they would get lost during the migration, however I did not.

According to your complex infrastructure and vCenter in use inventory objects, you might have to do more research and work to make a difference to new vCenter. There are a lot of messages and even prepared scripts out there for the migration of vCenter.

    I hope this helps.

  • Color Laserjet M252N: HP Color Laserjet Pro printer M252N for Windows XP Embedded Standard.

I can't install the driver HP Color Laserjet Pro printer M252N to my machine (OS: Win XP Embedded Std version) without an internet connection.

1 error message are requested in advance for MS .net framework 3.5. (after that, I download and installed: NETCFSetupv35.msi)

I found the name of the printer in the list of drivers, but then I try to add a new printer with this driver, the pop-up error message and the installation is not complete.

My question is: the HP Color Laserjet Pro printer M252N are not compatible with Win XP Embedded Std?

Please help, even the HP sales technician unable to answer me to this questation.

    Hello

The HP Color Laserjet Pro M252N Featuer software complete is not supported on Windows XP, however you can get the features of the printer using HP PCL 6 Universal Print Driver listed on page 9 of the User Guide, be aware that the Service Pack 3 must be installed on the operating system to use the printer:

Make a right click my computer and select Properties - locate Service Pack 3 in this form... If Service Pack 3 is not the operating system MUST be updated first:

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04475955

You can download the HP Universal Print Driver below:

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL39348/LJ-95977-14/UPD-PCL6-x32-6.2.1.20636.exe

As Windows Embedded edition is an edition of the customized version no official support is guaranteed.

It is a customized operating system version includes only the components of the operating system selected for specific needs.

Those selected by the OEM computer and not necessarily include any component required by the HP software or hardware.

Try to install the printer and see if this can work, however it can work as explained and may not only the manufacturer of the computer can respond if such material can be installed on the operating system or not...

    Kind regards
