Windows Installer 1601 error code

Cannot download and install updates from Microsoft Security essential, as well as update of Adobe reader. Installation fails - message "the windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can happen if windows install is not properly installed. Contact your support team. Error code 1601.

Have searched the msiexec.exe file, but cannot be found.

Windows Installer is listed within the services. Location is displayed but the directories are not seen to explore.

In the following article, try steps 1 and 2: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324516.

If this does not work, try the Windows Installer Cleanup utility: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml.  NOTE: This is 3rd party software that was once available through Microsoft, but deleted because it caused problems (and more), so use it at your own risk.  I have the list as an option, but do not actually recommend.

I hope this helps.  If this is not the case, after return.  We will have to re - install Windows Installer and/or your operating system to solve the problem.

Good luck!

    Hi crestonave,

Since you have no problem updating the software of a new user account, it looks like that the old user account is corrupted and you need to fix by transferring files from the old user account for the new user account.

Windows Installer error 1601 = The Windows Installer service could not be accessed. Contact your support team to verify that the Windows Installer service is properly registered.

Additionally, make sure that the appropriate ports are open to allow the Windows agent to settle.

Alternatively, you can manually install the converter on the remote system agent... and then try to restart the conversion (then there is no need to install anything).

    Hi JRCLNSIN100,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

We would like to get some more information from you to help solve your problem. You better, please answer the following questions.

    ·         What is the disk you use to reinstall?

    ·         Is this a recovery or reinstalling the disc you are using?

    ·         When exactly do you get this error message?

    ·         What is the edition of Windows Vista, you try to install?

    ·         How old is the drive that you are using?

    ·         How are you starting the installation process?

After researching the error 0x8007000D code is essentially due to file corruption and a problem with the drive itself.

First check if you have scratches or dust on the disc and clean the surface and try again.

To check if the disk is wrong, you will need to copy the contents of the DVD to the hard drive and try to install using that.

To perform a flat installation of Windows Vista, follow these steps.

Note The hard disk must have at least 3 GB of free space on the disk for the Windows Vista installation files. The hard disk must have at least 15 GB of additional disk space to install Windows Vista. For more information about system requirements for Windows Vista, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/products/windowsvista/editions/SystemRequirements.mspx

    1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc.
    2. Start Windows Explorer.
    3. In Windows Explorer, click to select the drive for the Windows Vista installation disc.
    4. On the Edit menu, click select all.
    5. On the Edit menu, click copy.
    6. Click to select the hard disk you want to contain the flat installation files.
    7. On the file menu, point to new, click the folder, type Windows Vista Setupand then press ENTER.
    8. Double-click the Windows Vista Setup program, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
    9. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions that appear.

See the link below for more information on flat installation.

This problem can also occur if the firmware of the DVD drive is defective or obsolete.

If the step above does not resolve the question suggests that you install the latest drivers for the DVD player on the computer.

  • The Windows 7 Installation failed, error code: 0 x 80070017

I own a legal copy of DVD of Windows 7 64-bit. I'm trying to reinstall it on my computer, which, for the time being, has no operating system installed, but 13% of expanding windows files, I always get the following error message:

Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupted or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0 x 80070017

What is the problem, how can I fix it? Is my Windows 7 disc damaged?

If you have downloaded Windows 7 and it burned a DVD test burn again at the slowest speed possible. It is also possible the download may have errors, you can try to download it again.

If you have several hard drives remove all except the one that you install Windows 7, and then replace it after Windows 7 is installed.

Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse before installing.

If using a video card and the computer has integrated video use and remove the video card.

Unplug the computer from the internet, if you have wireless disable.

RAM (memory) - reduce the amount of RAM. 1 GB if 32-bit installation, 2 GB for 64-bit, then replace RAM if the upgrade was successful. If you added new RAM make sure it is also compatible.

Windows 7 installation disc does not

Just a few troubleshooting steps to see if the drive is bad or if the DVD player is bad:

If you have another DVD player available try to use this drive in your computer instead.

If you have another computer available, try the disc of Windows 7 by using this computer and see if it can read the disc, or if the disc cannot be read and is bad.

In addition, if you purchased the retail version of Windows 7 try to put in the other disk of type bit of the Windows 7 disc and see if it works properly.

If you cannot start Windows 7 installation disc, your computer can boot from other bootable disks?

    Hey League kang

Follow the advice of microsoft at the link below

This problem occurs when Windows Setup encounters an error. Error code 0 x 80070646 and error code 646 are generated by Windows Installer. These generic errors indicate that Windows Installer has encountered a problem. When you encounter errors that are described in the section "Symptoms", the problem may be caused by an incorrect value in the registry.
