Recovery disc of "Notebook", then was able to install XP w/Service Pack 2, I had previously bought from Best Buy.   I have a very serious problem with my laptop. First of all, my laptop's HARD drive crashed, I bought a new one, then I installed ubuntu 14, as I have the installation disc, & then I downloaded Windows 7 one day before yesterday & then I installed on yesterday afternoon. Everything was fine, that the installation was successful

  Then I got a virus and decided to restore my laptop. Now it says that Windows is not active product key does not work, try a different key or buy a new one. It's *. A few months ago Samsung has replaced the motherboard for this thing, which seems to be the problem. But now Microsoft and Samsung give me the run around. I'm upset royally. Oh and I noticed the sticker windows fraying on the background of this laptop a few months ago, now it seems to be fallen off.   First of all, it is a site of peer to peer, made up mainly of volunteers who have little or no contact with Microsoft, so even if it was the fault of MS, we do nothing here.

  Second, if your windows came pre-installed it is called OEM and the key is linked to the original material.  A sure thing to kick off the trigger "invalid" is to replace the motherboard. It's something samsung knows and should be supported.

  Thirdly if it is still under warranty (and samsungs replacing the mobo would indicate this) they should be through it all or complete replacement of the computer.

  I wish we could help here, but we have even less influence you do because at least you own.

  This is the problem...  My grandfather gave me his old laptop and I did a reformat and re-installed Windows XP Professional.  After you install all my drivers, I have activated Windows by phone and restarted my computer.  Now whenever I start the computer, I get a message telling me to "activate Windows" if I click on Yes and then he told me that "Windows is already activated" and goes to a blank page with no icons, just the mouse pointer and the background.  I already reinstalled the operating system twice now, because the first time I thought that something in the system could be the cause of the problem, but now it's the second time.  I don't know what to do...   I've done a little more research and found out that if you do not have SP2 it causes the activation screen to keep repeat once you have already activated.  So I installed SP2 and activated Windows, no problem at all.  Thanks for the help.
