Windows logon: LogonUI.exe - corrupted file

After the round of my boyfriend used CCleaner on my windows 7, whenever I'm starting, I get a box labelled windows logon: file logonui.exe - corrupted with the message the file or directory \Program files is damaged and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility. A screen similar to the cmd prompt flashes whenever I try to access the chkdsk utility, so I'm not able to use it. I tried sfc scannow but I get a message indicating that Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation. I did a clean boot and that did not help. System Restore no longer works. Also whenever I try to access the internet explore or trendmicro antivirus, I get a message saying the element 'iexplore.exe' or 'uiwinmgr.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut no longer works correctly. You really want to remove this shortcut? I don't know if these problems are interconnected and the result of something has been deleted by the ccleaner. I've read other questions similar to mine, but none have the solution I need. Anyone know how to solve these problems?

Hi Malomi,

Welcome to the Microsoft community.

This problem occurs because of the corruption of the registry. I suggest you to do the Startup Repair and see if the problem is resolved.

Startup Repair is a Windows Recovery tool that can fix certain system problems that might be preventing Windows to start. Startup Repair scans your computer for the problem and then tries to fix it so that your computer can start correctly.

Startup Repair is a recovery tools in the System Recovery Options menu. This set of tools is on your computer's hard disk and on the Windows installation disc.

1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer by using the power button on the computer.

2. do one of the following:

o If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you must try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

o If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.

3. in the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select repair your computer and press ENTER. (If your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer doesn't understand no repair preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has disabled the.)

4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.

5. in the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it.

    Hello

AFAIK the LogonUI.exe is responsible for connecting to the Windows operating system.
If the exe file is corrupt then you won't be able to connect to the operating system.

You don t the recovery disk but you have the HARD drive on the second partition recovery this may be your last resort.

Switch on and press F8. Choose fix my computer.
Then new window appears offering the option called: HARD drive recovery.

Choose this option and see if you can start the HDD recovery procedure.

    HI Margaret,

    Thank you for your message.

Looks like you have a virus or malware causing corruption.

I suggest to update your Kaspersky Anti-virus definitions and run a full scan of the system.

Also, make sure here's you have the Vista disc in the drive when you run SFC, where it gets the correct file information.

Alternatively, you can try to perform a clean boot before you attempt to run SFC, to see if a startup program may conflict with it:

    I had 2 problems.

In outlook I have about 300 deleted messages from the deleted folder and when I entered the box and they were all there. I did it again and it happened again. Finally I did drag the files to the junk e-mail folder and not empty and they were gone and he seems to have stopped.

The other problem is with the printer profiles. I changed routers and had to reinstall the printers.

They appear ok in devices and printers, but when I go to print all old printers appear. They are not in the Control Panel, just new, but the drop down menu select printer boxes have many printers that are not active or working more. I would like to get rid of them.

SFC checks really just a list of some of the most important files (such as those required in order to activate the system at a very basic level), and generally what he is going to fix all that is at a "higher level." And Yes, it will almost always find one or two tiny little things but they are not significant failures, just a file with a version number of new or more than what's in the list.  Unless there is a symptom of a problem, probably best simply to ignore it.

Just follow best practices: do not run as administrator for daily use, maintain and keep a backup (use a simple as automatic backup, Carbonite or store your files in OneDrive).

    Hello

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

According to the description, I understand that you are facing in your Windows startup problems. I will certainly help you to question.

The question might be if there is a file system corruption. So I would say that you want to run auto repair before you reinstall the operating system. To perform the task, I suggest you to try the steps below and see if it helps.

    Method 1:

When you use the recovery (Windows RE) environment to resolve startup problems, first try the Startup Repair option in the System Recovery Options dialog box. If this does not resolve the problem, or if you have additional problems manually, use the Bootrec.exe tool.

Because you cannot start the computer, you may need to create a bootable Windows installation media, and then do an auto repair, and if this does not help then you try to restore your computer to the previous date.

Note: When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

If you are using Windows 7 then the link provided below might help you to download and create installation media.

Download Windows 7 Disk Images (ISO files)

    Method 2

Try to rebuild the BCD by using the Bootrec.exe tool.

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Place the Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

    2. Press a key when you are prompted. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

    3. Click repair your computer.

    4. Click the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.

    5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click command prompt.

    6. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

See the following link for more information:

How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/927392

    Hope this information helps.
