Windows Media Center - no receiver or Task Scheduler service

Big Media Center problem - no Recv or Service Sched

Hello

My media center PC is really screwed.  I have Win7 Home Premium and I have more a receiver or a scheduler service.

I started having problems after a power failure when I lost my digital QAM channels.  If I went through config tuner in WMC and I chose digital tuners, it looks like there was a mistake and I had to restart WMC and/or windows.  I was able to add all channels manually, but then that stopped working.  If I settled on a digital channel, he wouldn't say no tuner available to meet the demand.  Analog channels has worked well.

Then I installed Hauppauge WinTV and he listens to every time, analog and digital channels.  If I start WinTV to grant a digital channel, then I could go to WMC and I could no problem.

Now I can't do that because I can not configure tuners, digital or analog.  When I try to set up live TV, it is said the same before, TV program installation can not continue.  That's when I discovered that these 2 Media Center services lack.

I don't want to do a new clean install, I do as my life when these windows problems occurred.  I paid for this upgrade because all I heard was how this is the best windows ever, etc. etc.

Help, please!

Hi Frank,.

You can try the following steps and check if it helps solve the problem of media on your computer center.

Check if Media Center Service Launcher and Media Center Receiver service is started and set to automatic. To do this, follow the steps below:

1. click on start.

2. in the start search box, type service.msc, then press on enter.

3. in the services window, right-click on the Windows Media Center Receiver Service, and click Properties.

4. check if the startup type is set to automatic, otherwise it is set to automatic.

5. also, make sure of that logon has the value system toLocal account

6. click on apply > general tab > start service. Click the Start button, this will start Windows Media Center Service receiver.

7. repeat the above steps 3 to 6 for Media Center Scheduler Service.

Restart the computer and see if you can set channels.

If you are unable to find the Services in the Services window above, I suggest you run the checker (SFC Scan) system files on your computer and check if that helps.

The auditor of the filesystem (SFC.exe) tool determines which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:
1. open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click programs, accessories principally made, right-click Guest, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
2. type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow
sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

Access the link below for more information about the System File Checker tool

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

It turns out that the problem could be due to some pre-installed software. The Picasso snap steals the focus from Media Center at the session of the Extender is launched and so instead of the remote control Media Center, he tries to control Picasso (which is not visible). So by pressing the green button should bring Media Center at the forefront and work around the problem.

A more permanent solution is to remove the Picasso-> General-> program library Options-> edit program library and uncheck Picasso and the snap-snap front. Then restart the session of the Extender.

I am running windows 7 ultra with a dell xps quad 4. I use linksys media extender to connect to my TV. When I watch a TV show that was recorded and another program starts recording that my computer crashes. I get a message that says: insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

Do you get this error when you try to record TV programs at a time when you don't play a recorded show?

It seems to be a memory looking bottleneck the amount of activity going on right now. Was there any change remember you past in the computer just before this problem? As an upgrade to your security program or the installation of another program?

When you see this message, do not close it down. Instead try to open the Windows Task Manager by pressing keys Ctrl , Alt and Esc together for your keyboard. Go to the performance tab in Task Manager and see what's the use of your resources, such as shown here.

  • Windows Media Center Scheduler service is not running, even when the value of autostart

I had some trouble recently getting Windows Media Center to record programs. I did some research and found that Windows Media Center (ehSched) Scheduler Service does not start when I start my computer.
It IS configured to start automatically.
When I found that the service has not been started, I have manually started, but would find it himself quit again a few minutes later.
It of very frustrating and resulted in missing the scheduled recordings.
The only way to save that program is open the WMC and actually watching the program for the duration of the scheduled recording. (Not good if I'm not home!)

    Hi the Flomsat,

I would say looking at the following thread because it's a question similar to yours:

I tried all the solutions on this thread. None was able to solve my problem.

However, I found a fix that MAY have worked (it's only 1 day but so far it looks promising).

    Open Windows Media Center,

Click on settings-> General-> optimization-> uncheck to "perform an optimization. I never noticed an increase in performance and reliability with it turns out, in fact, now that I think about it, when I turned it on, my Scheduler service started having these problems. It must be able to close the Scheduler to 'optimize '...

    UPDATE *.
    It did NOT work

I had to reinstall windows to get it working again :(

  • Xbox 360 scan windows media center for the new music?

I just added some new music to my windows media center and the music does not appear on my xbox 360. is there a way to synchronize?

    Hi nwills,

Ideally, the Xbox 360 should automatically scan if new music is added to Windows Media Center. However, you can also manually synchronize as follows.

a: you can connect the Xbox. The Xbox Dashboard, select 'My Xbox', then select 'Windows Media Center' to receive the eight-digit code. This code allows your Xbox to recognize your media player on your computer.

    b. you can set up Windows Media Center on your PC. Click on the "tasks" and select "Add Extender". A screen will appear asking you to enter the eight digit of your Xbox 360 code.

    c. play music on your Xbox. Select 'Windows Media Center' in the menu 'My Xbox' and start playing music.

Hope the helps of information. Please post back and we do know.

    Hi Riclop,

    Thanks for posting on answers.com.

First, disable the program anti-virus or firewall that runs on your computer and check if the problem persists.

Note: because some anti-virus software will cause conflicts between unexpected applications, please temporarily disable any antivirus, firewall or anti-spam on your computer programs.

This problem occurs if the floating language bar is enabled on the Windows Vista-based Media Center computer. This configuration closes the connection between the Media Center Extender and the Media Center PC.

To resolve this problem, change the settings of the Media Center Extender language bar. To do this, follow these steps.

Step 1: Configuring settings on the Windows Vista - based Media Center computer

    1. Click Start , type intl.cpl in the Start Search box and press ENTER.
    2. On the keyboards and languages tab, click Change keyboards.
    3. On the Language bar tab, click docked in the taskbar under options from the language bar.
    4. Click OK.
    5. On the administration tab, click copy to reserved accounts.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click continue.
    6. Click on the checkbox by default (new users) user account , and then click OK twice.
    7. Click Startand then click Windows Media Center.
    8. Click tasks, and then click settings.
    9. Click Extender, and then on the Xbox 360.
    10. Click Uninstall, and then close Windows Media Center.

Step 2: Configuring the settings of the Xbox 360 console

    1. In the System of the Xbox interface section, select computers.
    2. Select Windows Media Center, and then press the A button.
    3. Select Disconnect.
    4. Press the B button repeatedly until you return to the System section.
    5. In the media of the Xbox interface section, select Media Center.
    6. Advance in the instructions on the screen to get the 8-digit setup key.
    7. Note the setup button.

Step 3: Configuring the settings on the Windows Vista - based Media Center computer

    1. Click Start and then click Windows Media Center.
    2. Click tasks, and then click add extender.
    3. Click Nextand enter the 8-digit setup key you obtained media of the Xbox interface section.
    4. Follow the prompts to complete setup of Windows Media Extender.

When you copy these settings for reserve accounts in the 1st step, you change the settings of language bar for all new users that are created on the Media Center computer. After you add the Windows Media Extender, you can reverse these changes so that all new users will have a floating language bar. To do this, follow these steps on the Windows Vista-based Media Center computer:

    1. Click Start , type intl.cpl in the Start Search box and press ENTER.
    2. On the keyboards and languages tab, click Change keyboards.
    3. On the Language bar tab, click floating on the desktop under the language bar options.
    4. Click OK.
    5. On the administration tab, click copy to reserved accounts.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click continue.

    6. Click on the checkbox by default (new users) user account , and then click OK twice.

  • Windows Media Center has not worked since the storm (Windows Vista)

I have Windows Vista with Windows Media Center (which I LOVE!) through this huge dish on our House, but we had a big thunderstorm last week. Since then, I have been unable to get most of the channels to watch TV via Windows Media Center. I know that it is not a problem with my antenna because if I choose to watch TV directly through the air and not through Windows Media Center, I receive channels without problem. Any help would be great! (PS, I know almost NOTHING re: computers, so you'll really have to "dummy down" your answers to me). Thank you!

Just a guess here, I don't have a tuner currently in my computer. But is there an option in media center to perform a channel SCAN. On my TV, I had a similar problem and all I had to do was rescan and VIOLA all my channels were back!

    Good luck!

  • Windows Media Center in windowed mode keeps by default!

I tried everything and can not understand why WMC goes to the windowed mode whenever I play a movie, whach TV, or play a movie from netflix.  Everyone has any Idieas.  It starts in mode full screen, but only stayed until the movie's over.

    Hi GregAlex,

I suggest you to perform the tracking changes in the task settings of Windows Media Center to have the screen mode full screen in Windows Media Center.

    1. Open Windows Media Center.
    2. Click Task > click media only option and click Yes.

Media only mode keeps Windows Media center displayed in full screen.
