  Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
  ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
  contacts data with a pencil eraser.

I would like to get Media Player to read. POWER DVD DX will play discs when the discs are in the draw, but I can't get my computer to use POWER DVD DX for them to play from the hard drive. My computer will ask me to choose a program from the list I want to use to run read the V.O.B. file but Power DVD DX is not on the list and I can't it on the list.  Can someone give me an answer?   If you want to just play individual. VOB files... try renaming
  glue them in. MPG and you can play them with Windows Media
  Drive. If you want to read the DVD as he plays in a DVD player...

  You are an administrator on your machine?  The drivers require that you be logged as an administrator in order to install the drivers.  The quick test is to right click on the button 'start '.  If "Open all users" is one of the options that opens, then you are an administrator.

  Other .exe files open or is it just this one?  If you have a problem with all .exe files, you may have a problem of association of files with ".exe" files
