Windows Media Player, files marked as "flv

I'm very challenged as IT, so if anyone can help me with a very simple answer I would be very grateful!

I have some old video clips, made by the family about 10 years ago. I used to watch with Realplayer. Now when I try to open my laptop says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. »

In 'Properties', they are labeled Windows Media Player (.flv) anyone know how I can convert these into something else so that I can see them again? Help!

You just need to add the required Codec. To find what codec a video use, use one of these tools 3rd party.

Or simply, use VLC Player to play the file.

  • adding new files or remove the old Windows Media Player files. (Vista)

Since June 2010, I was not able to add new files or remove the old Windows Media Player files.  I can click on a new file and play using WMP or add to a playlist that is currently playing, but it does not recognize that it was added after as I close the program and re-open it.  Or I can delete the files that no longer exist on my computer but WMP always has them as my files.  When I click on add new media, it recognizes the right amount of files I would be adding, says to add them and then nothing is there.

Your media library has probably been corrupted. To reset, follow the instructions for WMP 11 Vista at http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary . Note the reset of the library will make you lose all the counts to play and possibly ratings too. Tim Baets

    Hello

I've experienced this * IRQL NOT LESS or EQUAL * problem irregularly from January 2. It happened after doing some tinkering with the registry of Windows Media Player files (but I made sure to return to the default options once I'm done and I have also provided a backup copy) since it generates random album art files and I am looking for a way to stop him. I also deleted the files Windows Media Library (wmdb). I don't know if this has nothing to do with the BSOD. This error occurred at random intervals, sometimes after opening my computer laptop it will BSOD sometimes, it won't happen after long operating hours. Hope you can help me with this.

These accidents were related to the corruption of memory (probably caused by a driver).

Run these two tests to check your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.  Launch auditor.  You don't need to run memtest again unless the auditor is not the cause, or you want to.

  • Move the Windows Media Player files to another external hard drive

The hard disk that contains the files from my Windows Media Player 10 is dying.  I need to move the data to a new hard drive that I bought, but have not yet connected to my PC.  Old and new external hard drives are plug-and-play.

I have a lot of additional information to the library and want to be sure that I don't lose in the process.  However, I have not found anything in the documentation that tells me how to move my database from one hard disk to another.  Can anyone help?

If music files are in MP3 or WMA format, so most of the information is also stored in the files themselves, so that these information will be retained when the files are moved. There are a few fields that are not stored in the files, such as play account, custom fields and possibly star ratings. In order to preserve these fields during the movement of the library, you can use the backup of the metadata tool.

  • Windows Media Player 'file not found '.

Windows Vista Home Premium with Service pack 2 and countless updates. Am on my own ethernet network, access the internet with what we call now AT & T Yahoo via their DSL service.  The company with which I work stations streaming of audio files that are accessed by using Windows Media Player. Windows XP users just go on the company's website and click on the appropriate button to listen to the file.

When I do the same, Windows Media Player opens, I give "file not found" instead of audio. I can 'see' the file name, right click on it and see its properties (size 0, no media acess etc.) so "not found" seems to be the wrong term. The file is there, but I can't access it.

Sharing and discovery in network and sharing Center seems to be the problem. The six options, all are "on" except the last, "media sharing." It is 'Off '.  And while I can change the first five options on and outside, not so "media sharing."  Instead of turn it on, I get this message: "when media sharing is on, people and devices on the network can access shared music, photos and videos on this computer and this computer can find these types of files shared on the network.

And that is, of course, exactly what I'm trying to do.  What should I do to actually enable media sharing? I understand that sharing has its risks, and my goal is to get access to these audio files continuously to be able to listen to them online or download it to my library to access more specific only later.

Any suggestions for someone who has had this problem and found his resolution would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. Hugh

    Hi hughMarch,

If you click on the link on the Web site and the file is not found, the problem is with the site. You must contact the assistance Web site.

Implementation of readers multimedia network sharing will not change that.

  • Duplicating music for Windows Media Player files

original title: duplicates keep duplicate frustrating player / / / med.
I REMOVE THEM AND THEY COME BACK WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER.

    Hi Ninaduvall,

I suggest that you try to reset the media library. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too.

To resolve this problem, delete the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. close Windows Media Player.

    b. for Windows Vista:

Click Start, click run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

    c. Select all files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    exit Windows Media Player.

    b. click Start, click run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoftand then click OK.

    c. Select the Media Player folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
