Windows Mail: this file does not have a program associated with it
I can receive and open the email, but when I click on anything in the email a box comes up which says "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations Control Panel. Don't know what to do. Any help would be great.
Sorry, there just no option in this forum for the widows of mail... windows vista Home premium.
[Original title: windows mail problem]
... when I click on anything in the email is a box that says "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action...".
Everything is a bit wide.
- If what you click is a hyperlink to a Web page or a URL of type http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-ecoms/windows-mail-this-file-does-not-have-a-program/62ac226a-cca4-4ae9-9678-98e0a015fc2a, then the file associations that are broken are those who launch a browser to view the web page. This would include the HTTP and HTTPS protocols.
- If you click is an email address, it is the file association for the mailto: protocol that broke.
- If it you click on a file as an attachment to the e-mail message, then this is the file association for the type of file (for example, .docx, .pdf, .jpg) concerned who broke.
Assuming that you are talking about the first, (re-) represent Internet Explorer as default browser by clicking on the Start button then clicking default programs. Select set your default programs, and then Internet Explorer in the left page and click the Green Summit.
To ensure that all users of the computer doesn't have the same problem, login Windows with an administrator account and return to the default programs page. This time, select set access and the computer program defaults.
- Select custom , and then click the chevrons pointing to extend the selection.
- Under choose a default browser, select Internet Explorer.
- For other browsers you use, select enable access to this program .
- Click OK, and then restart the computer.
Now try to click a link in an e-mail. If it still does not work, please describe in detail what is happening, including the full text of the error message.

Whenever I start my computer, I get the message: "this file doesn't have a program associated with to perform this action...". "for my external drives. I use these daily backup USB drives. It seems that the backup will run, if I acknowledge this message by clicking OK. If this is not the case - it won't. Why is that happening and how can I solve this problem?
You can repair the associations used to readers. One of my fellow MVPS, Shawn (no relationship lol) has default binding settings in his site here:
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html
Just scroll down to find the link of 'reader', click it, and launches the link. You can do the same thing with "folder" and "directory" to be thorough.

I find this weird problem affecting that explorer.exe and not any other .exe files. When I open explorer.exe in the taskbar or the C:\Windows\explorer.exe, the dialog box opens and indicates "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. The control panel default programs Dosen t State .exe in the list of protocols and I find it complicated to press the windows logo and click computer each time. Please tell me that there is a way to solve this problem by means of edit this record.
I have not tried running sfc/scannow then chkdsk/f, two found no error.

my computer tells me that (this file does not have a program associated with to perform this action.create an association in the Panel options files) when I try to click on a link
Hi rayperkin,-You are trying to open this link from a Web site or is it an application?Follow the steps listed in the article given below to resolve this issue: -
Original title: problem e mail
I click on the links in the email and get a box that says: "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action" and the link cannot be opened.
Suggestions;
1. make sure that your e-mail program is your default program.
2. make sure that your Internet Explorer, or your main browser has all its faults.
You can do both of the above by following these steps...
Start button > right column, click default programs > click Set Your Default programs...
1. click on your e-mail program > it doesn't say "this program has all its defaults"?
If not, click on choose by default for this program > check all boxes below the list > click on save when finished.2 do the same as above for your Internet Explorer, or your main browser.

Yesterday when I turned on my computer (Windows Vista) and click the internet icon, a box appears and says "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the control panel of binding together. I called my internet provider and they think I may have a virus. They asked if I had been invited in the past two days in quarantine anything. I did about two days ago, I was looking for clip art and warned there was a risk and asked if I wanted to quarantine items. I clicked 'yes '. But I had trouble getting Internet for two days. Is it possible to fix this?
Yesterday, my son 'right click' on the RIC and was able to do to open up, but I can't today.
