Windows/temp filling with magick-* files

As the title says, my temp folder fills with thousands of files labeled magick-*, ranging in size from 12 MB to nearly 100 MB. Cannot find malware. The files are created regularly, taking about 1 gig every 10 minutes approximately.

Found the problem. The files have been created and published by hcavserver.exe, apparently part of the software used for the Kodak Theatre HD player I use. Uninstalled and the problem disappeared.

The larger files in C:\WINDOWS| Temporary folders are 435 hidden files whose name starts with etilqs_ *. Total space occupied by those files is 50.1 GB.

  • Windows VISTA problems with ".exe" files

I'm on Windows Vista Home Premium, 64-bit, SP2 on a HP Pavilion desktop computer. Recently developed a problem when you try to run any file with an ".exe" extension results in a window asking to "choose the application I want to use to open the file" or "this file has no program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the control panel to define the Associations. " Any ideas?

    Hello
This problem occurs when your .exe file associations are broken. This is usually caused by a virus/malware that changes the default file associations in Windows. Follow these instructions to resolve this problem:
Download exeHelper from one of these two links: link 1, link 2 double click on exeHelper to run the fix. A black window should appear. Once the patch is finished, press any key to close.
Then try following the steps in this virus/malware removal guide: http://www.selectrealsecurity.com/malware-removal-guide
It contains instructions which will remove most malware infections. If you have any questions, just ask me. I hope this helps you.

  • Windows 7 folder with the files disappeared - not in the Recycle bin - where?

    Hello

While in Windows and playing music with WMP, I wanted to rename the folder where the current files of music played. He says that the folder is busy with something. I closed WMP and tried to rename it, he still repeated the record is held by another application and cannot be renamed.

Now, at this time, I could not close the application and restart, so I used the hibernation and reset with linux. Once under linux, I rename the folder located in My Documents on a different drive than the Windows files and rebooted the computer with the previous Windows Hibernate file.

Once back in the window, I just can not find the folder, or all files. When searching for files, it says links are broken. I looked in the trash, and this case is here. I returned on linux, and here again I do not see the folder I renamed earlier. It was a few days ago.

Does anyone can tell where is this file? Should I assume that the folder has been deleted? Or hidden somewhere?

Thanks if you can help me to achieve something.

    Pascal

    Hello

There are third-party applications available for recovering deleted files from the hard drive. Search for the recovery application using your favorite search engine.

Note: There is no guarantee that it will recover all or part of the files and it would be at your own risk and expense. Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • Windows Explorer crashes with video files (AVCHD)

I can't view or rename video files in Windows Explorer without it crashing.  I ran FixIt Center feature which checks the contradictory conflicts of video codec and one was found, but has not fixed the problem.  I am under W7.  I don't have other types of files in Windows Explorer that will crash, only video files.

The types of files are AVCHD Sond files.

At this point, it may be useful to try to capture an image of the crash explorer.exe user mode for more information on accidents.

You can configure Windows to create dumps of user mode. First, create a System Restore Point.

If you copy and paste the following text in Notepad and save it as a .reg file, then right click on the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, when the .dmp file explorer.exe plant should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe]
    "DumpFolder" = hex (2): 43, 00, 3A, 00, 5 c 00, 43, 00, 72, 00, 61, 00, 73, 00, 68, 00, 44, 00, 75,.
    00, 6 D, 00, 70, 00, 73, 00, 00, 00

After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, you can, and then make the .dmp file available (provide the link) via Windows Live SkyDrive or similar site?

  • WHY THE WINDOWS TEMP FOLDER, THE FILES ARE PROTECTED, CAN NOT BE REMOVE?

CANNOT DELETE THE WINDOWS TEMP FOLDER ALL THE FILES ARE PROTECTED. WHY?

You can delete all. TMP using Disk Cleanup http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Delete-files-using-Disk-Cleanupfiles.  Of course, it won't delete those in use (not more), so, be sure you have not all open programs using temporary files, if you want to get everything.  The best way to do it is to do the cleanup right after the startup of the system.  The problem with OneCare is that it doesn't give you the option to choose the files you want to delete (as fair. TMP files) - she does everything that it considers unnecessary - and it can take hours to complete because of the antivirus and anti-spyware scans it includes (which can be excluded and drastically reduce the time but it is difficult to resist doing the chore together once you're already there and ready to do maintenance work).

While you're there, you should consider to optimize your system with http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Optimize-Windows-Vista-for-better-performance.

What are two tasks that should be part of a good monthly maintenance program to keep your PC/laptop running in peak condition.  There are other steps as well, that I would be happy to break it down if you want to know - but this isn't what you asked, so I'll skip that for now.

  • That Windows Explorer open with its extended file tree.

Is buried the record I work with several layers to the bottom of the tree (Documents > My Documents and so on).  I go immediately by putting the folder in Favorites, but which expand the file tree itself.  Is there a default setting that would make the Windows Explorer opened with its file tree developed to the level that I specify - either the level displayed when I close the program?

    Thank you very much

    Craig

    Hi Craig,.

What your request is what I get on my machine.  So, I sailed to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32, click Favorites on the left side, click right and choose "Add current location to Favorites".

What it gave me was SYSTEM32 in my list of favorites, and when I click it it only opens the right pane to this place.

OK, so for your problem, it doesn't not self-expanding.  You can change this quite easily in the Folder Options.  Open something like the computer, click the arrow next to organize, choose folder and Search Options.  On the general tab, you will see under the Navigation pane option to turn on the self-expanding.  You won't achieve what you want.

Let me know how you go.

    Kind regards
    Jon

  • My Windows/temp folder fills up with 10's of thousands and many GB of tmp files worth departure when I connect to broadband.

The files are all created in C:\windows\temp\tmp0000xxxx\ and are called tmp0000yyyy. There is no file name extension and the file size is 0 KB to MB in size. They are created at a pace that can reach 100 000 per hour and take 6 GB of space per hour. It really slows the PC and a pain to deal with

First of all, there was also a perflib_perfdataxxx.dat file as well, but I find this return to a java jsq.exe file. I got rid of this help Unlocker and it was OK for a week and now she went back worse than ever. I can delete the files using cleaning, but they keep coming when I connect. I am on Windows XP and the BitDefender antivirus (recently updated for 2012) are Microsoft Security Essentials - which none has detected a virus. One other strange thing has been lately that BitDefender did not Excel files for a while because he thought he has access to the internet so I had to turn off the feature in BitDefender (sorry don't remember the name). I saw a few notes on web chat that Excel can create .tmp files

    Any help would be appreciated.

OK - off BitDefender and all seems well. Don't be that charge again! All about Microsoft Security Essentials now so I hope that's enough with the firewall.

May not be entirely incompatibility of anti-virus software, as this was happening before that I put on MSE, in a desperate attempt to find a virus.

  • Windows fill my drive with unwanted files

For some time, Windows had filled my backup disk free Agent with unwanted files. 26 files - 7 are unwanted with names such as 20ade068cc166aebf2. Despite everything I do, I can't erase those files even if I change the attributes or run cleaning tools...

Some have dozens of folders with 4 digits, while others have Windows service pack setup programs. Two of them have locked the reported amd64 and i386 folders. I see no reason why they should be cluttering this removable drive - or why they should multiply.

Can someone tell what they are, what causes them and how to get rid of them?

  • Cannot access windows temp file .pdf Creator to function or install USB printer

    Nice day

I was pulling my hair out on this one, please help!

This is a new PC installed with windows 7 basic

I haven't installed a physical printer via USB, no problem, then tried to install a PDF Creator to send statements of a rental program. Installation and opening the .pdf Creator program, I get an error that it doesn't have permission to open the temp folder. I then also tried to install a second printer via USB but constantly receive the message not recognized USB device! and the printer cannot be found or installed. The PDF Creator should create a printer under printers but it hasent. I was convinced after having scoured the forums that the two issues were related and had to do with - user account control settings - unfortunately after countless did stop it no chance neither will work.

    I tried the following

    • restarted the countless number of times disconnecting the pc
    • Turned UAC works with restarts in the meantime and attempt to install creator .pdf and the second usb printer install with this setting turned on and off with no luck.
    • checked the registry entry for the UAC sure he was totally disabled
    • verified that the second USB Samsung printer is 100% compatible with windows 7
    • downloaded the latest installation of creator .pdf files
    • cancelled all windows 7 updates with a system restore
    • uninstall all USB drivers who then reinstalled on reboot.
    • Tried to manually add the Samsung printer using Add Printer

I am now at a loss and am convinced that the two problems are related. Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

    Molon

    Hi molon,.

    ·        What is the model number of the printer?

    ·        Did you follow the guidelines in accordance with the installation guide supplied with the printer?

    To refine the question

Try to use the USB port to which the first HP printer was connected to the Samsung printer.

To check if it's a bad USB cable unplug the USB cable from the printer HP to work and plug this USB cable into one of the other printers to determine if it will recognize and install.

  • Problem with the files of the Windows user.

I bought a PC in July and set up a single user (Milt). Later, I decided to change the user name and set up a second user (let's call it SirMilt). Both have administrator privileges.

Since I am the only user of this PC he has proved to be a problem. The C file; \Users\Milt\ is currently (even if the user is away) and is completely filled.  The C file. Users\SirMilt\ does not exist, which leaves me with two alternatives that I see.

Restore the first User (Milt) and remove SirMilt (which is the user name that I prefer)...

Create a SirMilt folder and reinstall windows to fill

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Milt

If you change the user name (rename) an existing one, the profile name will not change.  It's basically a superficial change.  I'm guessing that you renamed Milt SirMilt user and then tried to create the user "Milt".  You will need to do is to delete the new user "Milt", then rename SirMilt to Milt.  Then create a new 'SirMilt' user and log in as a user (which will create the folder "SirMilt").  You can then copy the files from one user to another if you wish.
