Windows Update stole my DVD player?

Two nights ago my husband asked me to check the Norton 360 4.0 expiration date on his laptop has been defined which should expire in 4 days.  When you look at my desktop HPE-410 , the right lower guest said I had 2 UPDATES IMPORTANT recommended windows. I decided to do this recommended action and follow the guests to do. I authorized Symantec to make changes to my computer, etc... etc... and thought everything was fine.  When all this was finished, restart the computer, I went looking for Norton Info and said that he was not coming. I also saw that the Norton Desktop icon is no longer there.  So, that night, I took the disk of Norton and tried to put in for the remaining 4 days, he said, he must have. Nothing happenned and we are told "screw it, we'll get a new Norton tomorrow."

We came with the Norton 5.0 new, tried to install it and still... nothing happened. Then we went to check the driver DVD is no longer was nowhere on our computer.  I'm a technoidiot, but I can read and follow the directions.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  We got severely affected by Hurricane Irene and do not have the funds to pay for help.  This computer was purchased new 11/26/10, I use it every day and have never had a problem until the installation of these 2 recommended "updates" of windows.  Thank you for your help.

Hello

First, try the automated Microsoft fixit at the link below.

Windows 7

Vista

Check if the drive works now.

If it still does not work, click on the Menu start, open the all programs, open accessories, right-click on command prompt and select "run as Administrator".  In at the prompt, type the following command and press ENTER.

sfc/scannow                (Note that there is a space between sfc and /)

Let the entire process, then the output type and press ENTER.

Then, click on the Start Menu, open Control Panel and click Device Manager.  Click to open the CD/DVD-ROM drives.  Right-click on the drive and choose uninstall.  Do not delete if requested drivers.  When the device has been uninstalled click the icon 'Search for hardware changes' (usually just below help in the toolbar).  Let windows reinstall the disc and see if it works now.

If the drive is now Ok, it would certainly be preferable to download and run the appropriate Norton removal tool from the link below to uninstall Norton 360 4.0 completely and then restart the PC before installing the new version you have purchased.

  • DVD player does not work after upgrade to Windows 8.1.

Original title: you stole my DVD player?

    MS,

I bought a HP with Windows 8.0 a couple of years.  At this time, Windows Media Player played drive E: movies very well.  Apparently, the 'free' Windows 8.1 'upgrade' deleted the DVD player.  None of the DVD players free on the App store will play a movie from the drive.  Worse, some of them want a 5 stars before you try to play a disc, then don't play not the DVD at all AND want money for features like an equalizer, this or cela.  Misleading and contemptible, on their role and yours, but I'm sure, not illegal.  I buy a Chevvy, 6 months later in the middle of the night the dealer removes my air conditioner and then offers to sell me an air conditioner.

Please give back me the DVD drive you removed.  (I don't hold my breath however).

    Sincere greetings.

  • DVD player broke, how can install windows 7

I had to update my hard drive on my lap top and re - install Windows 7, but the DVD player is broken and won't install disk, are there other options I could try? As a download on a USB and then install from there - (I have the product key).

Although you could certainly make a bootable USB flash drive if you have the correct DVD, you might as well buy a new DVD drive now... you'll probably want something else in the future.

These are usually very easy to replace, and you can get a DVD player for most of the laptops for less than $30--> http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007589&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&SrchInDesc=laptop&PageSize=30&Page=1

  • Update of the software DVD player for Satellite X 200

I am a novice pc user and this is my first post - I received an email with a software update for the DVD player.

The e-mail indicates the installation instructions are in the zip file but I can't find it there or elsewhere - I tried to use the facility to update Vista driver through the Device Manager and pointing to the file where I extracted the zip file, but it says that my drivers are up to date. I also clicked on the extracted Setup file but I get an error message saying: it will not work on my computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    First a question:
Why do you want to update anything? You have problems with your laptop?
If this isn't the case, so I see no reason to make the point.

On the other hand; What DVD playback software do you mean exactly? Usually you can not install the utility via the Device Manager, but ONLY the device drivers!
So for me you have mixed something!

Hello. I have the HP pavilion 15-e020TU laptop. My DVD player has worked with windows 7 and windows 8. After the upgrade to windows 8.1, the DVD player does not work. The Windows Device Manager find the DVD player, but represents a brand yellow error. I chose "update driver software" and then "automatically search for updates of driver software". After the foregoing:

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Step 1: Please make all underneath the same if you have done some before as is often
the set of operations that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device.
The driver tab - click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then do a RIGHT CLICK
the reader - UNINSTALL - REBOOT this will refresh the default driver stack. Even

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then check

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case

Here are the keys in my opinion, are those in question - for the CD/DVD drive - sub
the key of course because there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific
involved as well as the settings key.

    Hello

Follow these steps to reinstall the Beats Audio interface.

Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp52501-53000/sp52658.exe

One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

When you are done, reboot the laptop and let Windows load completely.  Open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  When this has completed, restart the computer again.

  • DVD Player & touch screen does not work after last update DX1210 to Windows 8

    Hello
I know. I should have checked the upgrade information before doing so, but I have upgraded to Windows 8 about 3 months ago and my DVD player and touchscreen no longer work. I don't know what else does not work.

Can someone point me to the right direction?

Or do I restore to original settings - Windows 7?

Which brings me to my second question. How to restore? I did not have a backup, but I left all my data on a hard drive.

I can't find any help on any of these challenges.

    Thanks in advance.

To be honest that I n t have this unit and don t have experience with it but I ve checked Toshiba to THE support page and of course, this model is not supported for Win8. What you need are utilities and tools specific to Toshiba.

In my opinion, if the device is not fully supported you should go back to original Win7 and supported.
I put t know why you didn t follow the Toshiba s advice on the creation of recovery media. From my experience, that the recorded data are unnecessary, and you will not be able to start the recovery image installation.

What you need now is the recovery disk. Visit the Toshiba page if there is possibility to order a new. Otherwise contact the closest service Toshiba and ask if they can help you with this.

Obviously, Toshiba DVD playback application that is preinstalled on this Satellite A500 model is not compatible with the system Windows 10.

In this case this software will not properly work after the upgrade to win 10 and I guess you have to remove the system Win 10.
