  I bought my laptop with Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium installed on it.  I've since upgraded to Windows 7.  Unfortunately, there are a few programs that will not work under Windows 7 little matter what I do.

  You can not upgrade to Windows 7, and then use the Vista OS you used as part of the upgrade to install another (even virtual).

  There is no Vista free download legal available.

  And Microsoft provide no DVD for computers of the brand OEM (Dell, HP, etc).

  Borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
  A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
  The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

  There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

  It's all in German I think lol, but it's pretty easy to get out.   The Red Cross means that you cannot use Windows 8 in your pc. You can have problems with an upgrade. You'd be better off buying a full installation of Windows 7.
