Windows Vista with folder/windows taking 158 GB of space on a 300 GB system!
Hello.
I have a windows Vista 3 GB of ram desktop computer and it is very short on space. Glanced at TreeSize to find the source of the problem. Turns out that the windows folder takes 158 GB of space! Most are in a folder called 'Install', which is 129 GB. The rest is in a folder called "winsxs".
All the files in the Installer are ending with ".msp". Most of the files are 4 GB EACH! What can I do to fix this?
Thank you.

These are files to install from the previous software installed. They can be removed by running the Disk Cleanup Wizard. You can read how here

Satellite L300 Windows 7 to Vista with Toshiba Recovery CD
Hi all
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 Series (2008 model) cell, which was originally Vista but I installed Windows 7 Professional on this topic. I would now like to go back to Vista.
I noticed that the "Windows.old" folder created on the c: / drive appears to be missing a lot of files and could have been modified since the date of that its creation. I think it would be too risky to use it to recover back to Vista.
So my question is can I use my original Toshiba Recovery DVD set to return to Vista? I want to do a full factory reset to restore my system when it was purchased with Vista.
If the recovery DVDs is not an option and was the only is by using the Windows.old folder, if it is missing important files so she could leave my corrupt system? I don't know there is a way to get back to Vista by restoring factory somehow.
Comments and reactions to urgent!
Thanks in advance.
> So my question is can I use my original Toshiba Recovery DVD set to return to Vista?
Without a doubt. Only using original recovery disks you will have factory settings again. -
Can I copy the computer my brother Vista System32 folder and navigate through it on my Windows 7 computer? I like to compare the old and the new and see what works, but I'm not sure it's legal, and I assure you.
Hi Aaron Campbell,
To help focus in the right direction, I would like to know what exactly are you trying to accomplish?
You try to compare windows vista and windows 7?
Yes, you can copy the folder system32 on a flash drive and then compare it with windows 7.
The System32 folder and its subfolders contain files of system operating base for your installation of windows operating system. See the link below for more information:
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457124.aspx
Note:
ؠ You cannot copy all the contents of the system32 on the flash player folder because the essential components are in use.
ؠ Do not replace or try to copy the system32 (from windows vista) folder for drive C on windows 7, the computer may become unstable.

I have windows vista with service pack 2. Vista is no longer supported so where should I go from here as an upgrade?
Hello
Vista is in the Microsoft extended support until April 2017.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Depends on hardware configuration required on later operating systems, and also find out if the manufacturer of the laptop computer is supported and provides drivers for operating systems later as to whether it is possible or feasible to upgrade or not.
There is no free upgrade Vista to 7, 8.1, or 10.
Follow these steps before you buy Windows 7.
Microsoft sells more than 7; Try Amazon.com.
Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.
If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.
Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Follow these steps before buy you and upgrade (new installation) of Windows 8.1.
Microsoft sells more than 8/8.1.
Try Amazon.com, etc.
Check if the manufacturer of your computer/laptop has Windows 8.1 drivers available for your model.
If this is not available, Windows 8.1 not install and work properly for you.
There is a lot of information in this first link from Microsoft:
Download and run the Windows Upgrade Assistant 8.1 of to see if your machine is compatible Windows 8.1 and read the update for Windows 8.1: FAQ here

When I go to activate Windows, I offer the choice to buy another copy of Windows or enter a new product key. A run the Genuine Advantage tool and he says it's "authentic." HP will not help, they say I have to buy another copy of Windows from MS, but I already paid for it when I bought the machine. What can I do?

never had a disc of windows vista with the new laptop and no option to make a recovery disk, and I need to format my laptop to factory / clean, help!
How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.
There is no Vista free download legal available.
Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
They will tell you how to do this.
Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
