iSCSI with armOS5.3.11 v2 Readynas NV +.

Hi all

I have a Readynas NV + v2 (RND4000v2), armOS5.3.11 and I would like to create an iSCSI target. I can't see any menu on the iSCSI service. I can't upgrade to OS6 (I find a lot of guide to do this with OS6, but none with os5).

Please can someone help me?

Thanks in advance

Concerning

Davide

Unfortunately the nv + v2 firmware does not support the iSCSI (and you cannot load OS6 on the platform either)

So if you need this, I think that you will need a new SIN.

  • storage iSCSI with UCS

    Hi all

Can I ask a question regarding the connection of iSCSI storage for use with UCS. Look at us with Nimble iSCSI based storage & want to understand best practice recommendations on how to connect it to UCS to get the best level of performance & reliability / resilience etc.

Another issue is more closely how VMware deals with loss of connectivity on a path (where double connections are the installation program from the warehouse to the tissues), would he re - route traffic to the path running?

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Hello Kassim,

Currently the agile iSCSI storage is certified with UCS 2.0.3 firmware version.

  • Increase throughput for iSCSI with multiple NICs

I'm implementing a new host ESXi 6 using a Synology NAS as an iSCSI target. I have 4 nic of the Synology stuck in 1 connection, so it has 4 GB of throughput. So far, over my hosting provider, I have two nic I dedicated to iSCSI traffic. So far, I put vSwitch under 1 two NICs and I was playing with patterns. I put two 1 vmkernel network cards and set as active adapters. However when I watch the iSCSI network traffic I only see traffic on a network adapter. This of course caps my speed to 1 GB. I would like to be able to bind several network cards so I can get a flow more. I tried changing the selection of the path for the warehouses of data in Round Robin are therefore at least two active nic. But which always leaves me with two individual connections of 1 GB instead of 2 GB connection. Is it possible for me to get there or I'm better off just having several 1 GB NIC load balanced?

I'm not familiar with the Synology. However, what is generally - in the case where the storage system supports - is to set up several uplinks on the side of the target of storage/as well as on the initiator/ESXi side, each with their own IP address. Once configured, you can use multiple paths to access the target. According to the capabilities of the target, Round-Robin (if supported) will send traffic through all the links, i.e. using the bandwidth of all the links.

  • iSCSI with MPIO

I need configure the virtual switch in VMware for an iSCSI Array does not support LACP or aggregation of any kind.

There are 4 ports on the table that can be used.

    • How many cables should I use for my 7K table?
    • Should I use MPIO for LACP is not an option?
    • How many IP addresses to configure on my table for iSCSI?

I never used LACP for iSCSI connectivity, I don't know yet if this is supported by VMware! Anyway, basically you will configure an IP address for each target port and an IP address to each initiator VMkernel on one or more ESXi hosts. You may need to double-check with the documentation of the unit of the range, if for example a VIP (virtual IP) for the target to be used, and the question of whether IP addresses should be in the same or in different subnets. If storage systems supports the path of Round-Robin policy, then make sure that set you this for the LUN to the advantage of the bandwidth available.

  • iSCSI with two uplinks

Can I connect more than one uplink to iSCSI storage?

Yes you can multiple iSCSI adapters (as far as I know up to 4), each with its own group of VMkwernel iSCSI ports and IP address (assuming you are using SW iSCSI).

  • RS 5 with netapp SRA, FCOE site iSCSI with RDM

Hi team, could someone please help to veify if it works in this scenario.

We have PROD site running vmware vcenter 5.0, esxi5.0, SRM 5.0, Netapp 3210 ONTAP8.1 version file server. The VMs are windows Server2008, MS SQL2008 as major DB. Virtual RDM database files. Only FCOE for this site. AD is a physical Server 2003. The rest are virtual machines

We offer you to have SRM for DR site deployment. The DR site is synchronized with netapp SRA snapmirrror, controlled by the console SRM5.0. Recovery site has no FCOE, only iSCSI and NFS license availble. Always RDM but using iScsi. vCenter 5.0, 5.0, netapp ONTAP8.1 2040 esxi.

    My questions are:

    1. If VMware SRM support DR failover for this case with the different protocol, PROD is FCoE, iscsi DR

    2. If the SRM supports failover with RDM in our case

    3. If the AD DR Server site need to be installed as a new best practices, or we will have to use SRM to switch production announced on website of Dr. What is recommended.

    4. If the physical AD can be kept as the common way and always taken SRM supported

    5. to the recovery site, which is the best practice? To use NFS to store data and iSCSI for iscsi? Or store data and RDM using iSCSI LUNS to simplify?

    Thank you!

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. I would recommend if possible having a domain controller AD, already running on the DR site - it may be a virtual machine
    4. Yes, the PROD site domain controller can be physical
    5. I'd keep all compatible iSCSI so so -.
  • question of iSCSI with D-Link DSN-2100-10

Server: HP DL380 G7 equipped of 4 ports (BCM5709) Broadcom adapter

SAN: D-Link DSN-2100-10 (the latest firmware upgrade)

    Hypervisor: ESXi 5.0 U1 (build 623860)

I have a few problems with access to the San, just using one of the four adapters to Broadcom iSCSI detected by ESXi, after implementation of the VMkernel port binding, I have run the dynamic discovery and after waiting for 10 minutes, the target is detected but is not accessible by train. At this point, the host became unstable do not allow me to access, ping to the host is expired. After a few minutes, the host is still once I could only have access via SSH and not through vSphere and after restarting the server via SSH, the host is accessed again by vSphere but the target iSCSI not still not accessible, and if I try to make simple as rescanning for HBA operations or remove the target dynamic discovery or static tab the to host crashes again with the same strange behavior.

If I install and configure VMware iSCSI Software adapter, the target is almost instantly and without performance problem. I also configured 2 Ports of iSCSI binded to 2 network cards on a single vSwitch for multichannel goal and it's working like a charm, but I suppose for the moment that I can't benefit from the unloading feature of my NIC iSCSI. The only problem with this configuration is a few warnings San logs on which I look at (invalid field in the message of the CBD when I perform an action on the data store)

    Any suggestions?

In my view, the storage is not supported by the VMware HCL, is it not?

Sorry for my response, but it is a problem that I have in fact! Storage is supported up to ESXi 4.1U2, but I want to upgrade to ESXI 5 hypersivor...

Maybe you have any other suggestions or solutions, to help me solve the problem? I will ask support from DLink and VMware for a solution too.

    Thank you too much.

You must create a 4 vmkernels, each with its own IP address.

Each core linking to a single physical NIC.

Run a command in the console service to each of the vmkernels link to the initiator iscsi (see PDF below). This is only possible via CLI.

New analysis of your storage space.

Go to each volume and value "round robin" multiple paths.

To be really an easy way to do this via the GUI. That's pretty pathetic IMO it does not already exist.

That you configured is a single path (only one source IP) with the possibility to have 3 NICs fails.

What you will get with your current configuration is an increased bandwidth. Never will flow of traffic from a single IP address on the storage device. 3 of your network cards won't do anything unless sit and wait to die or be disconnected Active NETWORK card.

    Download the PDF here:

    http://www.EqualLogic.com/ResourceCenter/assetview.aspx?ID=8453

In what concerns a Dell Equallogic, but the ESX part won't be different depending on your type of iSCSI storage.

The PDF file gives clear instructions on how to do it. ESXi will probably have different commands and must be made through the line of remote control commands.

I just did this there are 3 mights. No reboot is required, and it did not have any currently active storage offline.

    Hope that helps.

  • MS on NFS and iSCSI with cluster?

Clustering for vSphere management guide States that only storage fibre channel is supported of the CF/MSCS clusters, so I'm sure I already know the answer to that, but...

I have a client who wants to run a NetApp storage solution active cluster failover, configure the disks in the operating system for Windows 2008 R2 servers on an NFS volume and application driven on a DRM iSCSI data.  IOPS / s and network side, someone set up a cluster like this before, and if so what were your experiences?  I'm just trying to get an idea of what kind of potential problems to wait on the road.  I also assume that VMware is not going to support because they advise against it expressly.  Thoughts?

    -Justin

According to me, that it will simply not work. ISCSI initiator Software in ESX/ESXi does not support persistent reservations SCSI-3, which is required by MSCS on 2008 and above. With the help of the RDM will not change it. I don't know if iSCSI HBA will work.

The workaround for this is to use software iSCSI initiator inside 2008. Operating system can sit on NFS datastore. Quorum and the data must be on iSCSI LUNS connected via the Windows iSCSI initiator.

  • I share the same target iSCSI with multiple hosts?

I have an iSCSI LUN target that appears when I discovered the storage for an ESXi host, but when I discovered the storage for another host, it does not appear. I added the suitable adapter software network and iSCSI on the second host, dynamic analysis and he sees the same iSCSI target, however when I go to 'Add a storage' there is no displayed LUN.

I'm obviously missing something, I just can't understand what it is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Storage Area Network - FC and iSCSI - do not automatically appear LUN to all hosts that connect to them. This is also called masking and prevents accidental access to LUNS of the host that is not allowed access to that LUN. You must configure the storage system, access to the LUN - once you do this for the other hosts will be displayed in the list and you will be able to access all hosts logic unit number.

To avoid trampling of the ESXi put a lock on the VMDK so that a subsequent host will not be able to power of the virtual machine and write than disj virtuak

  • iSCSI with stacked switches

    Hi guys,.

I have a client who is looking to implement a new iscsi solution.

We are looking for in the design of the network iscsi at the moment and my preference would be to have two switch dedicated for iscsi traffic.

The customer, however, is eager to use 2 switches configured as a battery and use a vlan.

So my question is, connecting the iscsi network to stacked switches would cause problems in terms of failover etc.?

    Thank you

NO it shouldn't cause any problems-

  • With iscsi failover data warehouses

    Hello to all members,

Im looking for a solution to create a failover (active/active preference) data warehouses (iscsi) with 2 different devices.

I read on FT but I think that FT do not create a failover with data warehouses (transparent failover) hosts only, correct?

I need a solution for reading/writing in the two data stores at the same time.

Thank you very much and sorry my English.

    Welcome to the community,

you are correct FT so that DRS and HA only care about the workload of VMS, not storage.

For the requirement type (transparent failover) you will need a storage based replication/mirroring as HP P4000 (formerly Lefthand).
