Windows XP computer is slow to start and stop.

original title: PC is VERY slow

It takes awhile to start and turns off, surfing is quite slow as well. How do I speed it up?

Some reasons for the slow pace of the computer:

1. computer has not been maintained - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Maintenance

2. the computer is infected with the malware - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

3. the disk is too full. Remove useless stuff, uninstall unused programs. Do not forget to save!
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Backing_Up

4. flaky third party software. Toolbars and modules are particularly guilty in this area. Uninstall toolbars (Google, Yahoo, ISP brand, etc) and look at what modules are in use in your browser (s).

5. computer has too many unnecessary programs/processes running in the background. Manage your Startup:

For XP - How to troubleshoot using the Msconfig in Windows XP utility - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=310560
The free Autoruns program is very useful for managing your Startup - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/default.mspx

For Vista/Windows7 - Start Orb > Search box > type: msconfig and when it appears in the results area above, right-click and choose 'run as administrator '. Autoruns is also very useful.

6. the user runs an inflated/invasive such as Norton and McAfee antivirus program. Replace it with a better program. I recommend NOD32 (commercial) or Avast (free). Avira is also good, but the free version has an unpleasant reminder screen (Google for instructions on how to disable it). The user can also run several real-time antivirus/firewall/security programs.

7. the user has installed new programs that are processor and/or memory-intensive (Photoshop, AutoCAD, Mathmatica or similar) and does not have the power of the equipment.

8 drive fails and is in PIO Mode (IDE only - not applicable for disks SATA drives). It's very much slow (like being in 1985). See Hans-Georg Michna here information -http://winhlp.com/?q=node/10

If the hotfix registry PIO only 'glue' (or you have a SATA drive), the drive is probably faulty and needs to be tested.

In addition to the above, see also http://miekiemoes.blogspot.com/2008/02/help-my-computer-is-slow.html

Note: If the computer has always been slow, in addition to the above user may have bought a machine with a less powerful processor and not enough RAM (memory). The normal use of the computer, 512 MB to 1 GB is sufficient for XP; Vista should have a minimum of 2 GB; Windows 7 is less demanding than Vista, but the minimum of 2 GB should also be used.

How can I troubleshhot these screens to return?

A clean boot, try (as a test). Who starts quickly? (a time tested and studied, don't forget to reset - step 3)

It might be that the OS just needs a little maintenance, so try a Disk Cleanup, disk error checking, disk defragmentation run a check of the sfc/scannow . They can help, depending on what is actually causing the problem.

Run a check of malware (just in case!). Download, install, update (by right clicking on its icon and 'run as administrator' then go to the update tab) and run a complete scan with free Malwarebytes.

  • Slow simulation (start and stop)

    Hello

I am a student recently started to use Multisim for a specific course.

Comparing my simulation time with other students he is incredibly slow. I'm waiting for more of 10 to 30 seconds then the average student to start or stop a simulation.

For many reasons, I believe that my computer current 'settings' will have something to do with it. And by that, I mean drivers, updates, anything really what could cause slow Multisim.

I currently also improved for a firm amount of RAM (8gig) for other reasons, then the one mentioned. But hey, it might help just right?

In addition, I use an Acer aspire 5740G if this can be no attribution in research material bottlenecks or something.

I searched this forum on how to speed up Multisim, but the parameters (what I could change) do not seem to have an effect really.

One last thing, I don't think that we use many components. In addition some vipers, generating Word etc.

When you start the simulation that I really understood the wait time, duh, it must 'load' and everything. But then the option "stop the simulation" taking so long.

It is quite frustrating and with upcoming exams by which I'm supposed to use this application, I wish I had some time with Multisim running at normal speed.

No, I don't have the time to reinstall Windows atm.

I don't know what the problem with your machine, but it is possible that it is hardware or software partners. I suggest that you post in the forums there is someone out there can help you out. If your machine is still under warranty I contact them or take it to a reputable repairshop. Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded: run DriverView - define the VIEW
for the drivers Microsoft hide - updated those without drain in their names. (Also updated
    the BIOS and chipset drivers.)

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods above
It is preferable to ensure that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are located)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

    Thanks Omnicore you snapped.

I don't know if that has an effect, but under keyboards, I got two installed?  The keyboard for the United States and the other for the United Kingdom.  I deleted the one for US as I am in England, applies the settings and rebooted the system.  The stop screen does not display the icon of EN, but on the home screen icon EN reappeared.

    Hello

Step 1: Check if the problem persists in the clean boot state.
