Windows XP SP1 or SP2
I re-formated my PC and reinstalled Windows XP of origin. A sine qua non for Svce Pack 3 is SP1 or SP2. SP1 downloads, but during the installation, meets a non-server response MS. SP2 download, but cannot be installed because it is a corrupted file. Can anyone offer advice?

[points out: you can get best results uploading the SPs and IE installers on another computer and then transfer them via USB stick or any other means to the computer in question.]
[pointing aside: do not forget to download all the drivers for hardware device suitable for the hardware inside the computer and install them as well.] [Network, audio and video card motherboard chipset come to mind.]
Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 7--> you back all the way back to Internet Explorer 6 before continuing (if necessary).
Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
Install it.
Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]
Install it.
Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.
Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).
Install it.
Reset.
Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.
Come back and let us know how things will go.

Windows Vista SP1 uninstall SP2 and viseversa
My laptop will not automatically updated Vista SP1 or SP2. It still fails. I decided to download the standalone update from another computer, and then download and install on my laptop. The problem I encounter is when one is installed it is uninstalled and the automatic updates icon opens with an important update that ends up being Vista SP1 or SP2, whatever one is in front of the update installed. Can someone help me understand how to solve this problem?
Canela,
See the MVPRobear Dyer response to a previous post this month involving problems with Windows XP without the Service Pack.
His advice, I think, you can keep it as a reference with Vista

Impossible to install Windows Vista SP1 and SP2
original title: update to vista SP1 and SP2 problem
I have SP1 and SP2 update for vista problems. I completed the destructive recovery and try to install the updates for my new system, but I get the error message and cannot complete the installation.
Have you tried the manual download for SP1? Usually, if an update fails then by downloading and installing manually usually does the trick.
I was able to find a set of steps for you to follow on the problem of Windows Update. I hope it helps.

- I already downloaded the patch for xbox 360 controller.
- Windows 7 is installed, but the error message that appears indicates that I need XP SP1 or SP2.
Hi SevOmega,
Welcome to Microsoft 7 answers Forum!
The patch you downloaded can support only Windows XP (SP1 or SP2) which is not compatible to your computer since your computer is installed with Win7.
I suggest that you visit the same Web site where you downloaded the patch and download the patch that is suitable for Win7 and check.
If the problem persists, I suggest you contact Xbox support for further assistance:

upgrading to the windows xp family of sp1 to sp2
After the upgrade from sp1 to sp2, the pc starts in the start window opening, and then just it recharges in a warm start. does not start in windows continues to reboot back to warm start.
You need to start from the square.
Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!
HOW to do a clean install of Windows XP: see method 1 and http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html#steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978307
Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a local network (i.e. other computers) and before using a USB or SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formattedotherwise:

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the appropriate removal tool before installing updates, Service Packs Windows or IE upgrades and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

NOTE: do NOT connect the computer to the internet until you got installed SP3 and make sure that the Windows Firewall is enabled! Use another computer to download the removal tool is appropriate as well as installers for WinXP SP2 (Yes, you can ignore the SP1) and WinXP SP3.

Can I still download sp2 and Windows XP sp1?
I had to renistall windows xp. My system disk is the original version without sp1 or sp2. Tried to download and install sp3, but can't without previous service packs in place. Where can I still download sp1 and sp2?
You don't need sp2 to install sp3. You only need sp1 or sp1a. I recommend that you download sp1a from HERE then install manually the sp3 from HERE.

Windows update downloaded and installed sp1 and sp2. Both show as "successful" in the history of the update however my computer properties tab represents OS is Windows Vista Home Premium and shows no indication of SP1 or SP2. Is there a process of 'activation' these? Should not be done automatically? Any help is appreciated!

I ran, "Find new solutions", in the problem reports and Solutions and a new solution was found for Blue error screen and he recommended that I have download Windows Vista SP1. I have SP2, so I need to download the old version too?
Hi JJ,
I took the lead and it moved to the Performance and maintenance Forum. In response to the original question don't you're useless to download SP1 again since you have installed SP2. However, it would be preferable to follow with PA support to troubleshoot the Stop Code you receive.

that fact-MSXML 4.0 sp2 on my windows 7 sp1
I have windows 7 sp1-what makes East-MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB973688) AND MSXML 4.0 - SP2 (KB954430) on MY PROGRAMS ON MY ADD / AND DELETE PROGRAMS, AM I suppose to have the sp1 and sp2 on my pc?
MSXML 4.0 is not used by any program from Microsoft, support must be that it has been installed with a third-party program.
You must update to MSXML 4.0 SP3 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15697
After installation, run Windows Update to apply the remarkable security updates.

Windows activation main difference from sp1 and sp2.
I have windows 7 Home premium SP2 and I bought a repair disc, the seller told me that I can use the same comes from keys with the system but after almost a month of windows installation has begun to wonder that the windows key is not valid, I must again. What should I do? (the repair disk is sp1)
There is no Service Pack 2 for Windows 7. There is only a Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.
As long as you have a key for the same edition of Windows 7, see if its Windows 7 Ultimate RTM (which is the original version) or Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, the product key will work.
If you have a problem to activate Windows, you can try the activation of the phone:
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) select your "country" in the list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.
