Windows XP SP1 or SP2

I re-formated my PC and reinstalled Windows XP of origin. A sine qua non for Svce Pack 3 is SP1 or SP2.  SP1 downloads, but during the installation, meets a non-server response MS. SP2 download, but cannot be installed because it is a corrupted file. Can anyone offer advice?

[points out: you can get best results uploading the SPs and IE installers on another computer and then transfer them via USB stick or any other means to the computer in question.]

[pointing aside: do not forget to download all the drivers for hardware device suitable for the hardware inside the computer and install them as well.]  [Network, audio and video card motherboard chipset come to mind.]

Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 and Internet Explorer 7--> you back all the way back to Internet Explorer 6 before continuing (if necessary).

Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Get SP3 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).

Install it.

Reset.

Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.

Come back and let us know how things will go.
